Difference Between Adderall And Amphetamine Salts (Page 18)

I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of drug. The more I "google" the more I want to stay away from the generic form. Also- almost every pharmacy around has little to no Adderall Brand IR tablets in stock, they only have the generic brands and possibly Adderall brand but only the Extended-Release. My Doctor seems to firmly believe that there is no difference between Adderall XR and Adderall IR, and because she prescribed me the generic form (Amphetamine Salts), she probably doesn't see a difference there either. I don't have the time to ask 10 doctors what they think so if anyone has any information or experiences please share! Thank you!

Who ordained you? If you think it's God, you're probably severely delusional! You have the right as an American citizen to have an opinion, and voice it, but that doesn't make it wrong or right! It's just your opinion… People come here for advice and information, not to be told they're stupid and to be criticized!!! So I guess you're telling me babies were born with down syndrome or a cleft chin or something else that they were meant to be born that way regardless of how God created Adam and Eve… You are pretty ignorant!!!Find something else to do buddy... You should go to your local library instead of using Technology and devices and read up on a whole plethora of things in life. HI, I HAVE BEEN TAKING ADDERALL XR FOR ABOUT 20 YEARS. BUT WENT TO GET THIS A COUPLE A MONTHS AGO AND MY INSURANCE SAID GENERIC WAS THE ONLY ONE COVERED. WELL TAKE MY WORD, IT WAS NOT THE SAME. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY. I REALLY THINK MY BODY WENT INTO SHOCK, OR MAYBE IT WAS NOT AS STRONG. BUT TO LET YOU KNOW HOW BAD IT WAS, IT BROUGHT THE SHINGLES ON. THAT SHOULD TELL YOU A LOT. THERE IS NO ONE THAT CAN TELL ME IT IS THE SAME, IT IS NOT!!!!

Hi Maggie,
No it's not the same at all. Particularly TEVA. It is crap, I became tired, sleeping during the afternoon, fussy, angry, cranky. My insurance will not cover brand name either. Thank's Obama. The insurance companies are telling the Dr's what they can and can not prescribe. I take The Actavis generic now, I had my pharmacy order anything but TEVA and they did. It's OK, I'm not cranky or falling asleep. Good luck!

Hello, after reading your post, I thought this guy is just kicking amphetamine under the bus. Who are you? What is your background? For you to throw the entire array of amphetamines in the trash. Do you have any idea how many people in this world are being helped, and have been for many years? must be beyond your comprehension. You said two things that I can relate to: 1, Wasting your life, and 2, You mention God. I spent 33 years non stop on methadone maintenance treatment. So I know about wasting your life, and you said God created us with everything we need to work with. I am a born again Christian. However, I just started treatment for ADHD/ ADD, and I am shocked after seeing the effect it has on me. I am able to concentrate, clarity, to be able to read a book without forgetting what I just read when I hit the third page. I could go on and on about medicine, or probably any subject you could come up with. I am gonna stop here, before I say something I should'nt.

I have been diagnosed with adult ADD. My Rx was D-Amphetamine Salt Combo. Is that Adderall? I was once given that Rx years ago and I remember taking it and feeling kind of jittery. Is that normal for an ADD person? I don't know if the brand name is better or not. I try very hard to communicate with my primary dr. and she is very resistant to listening to me. It's as if she has to be 'right' and I must be 'wrong'. I don't know. I would hate to think that I paid thousands for those tests only to be prescribed a drug that is not effective and a dr. that is resistant to anything that I say.

Hi! Your post is right on the money, exactly correct. I feel the same as you, and don't have the time or energy to run all over the place, setting up appointments with new doctors. What we both want is a dr. with a broad social imagination, which envolves diversity in life. To find that you will most likely need to locate an older Doctor.

Well, you ARE taking twice as much now. :-|

10mg x 3 = 30mg
30mg x 2 = 60mg

I imagine it would have a completely different effect.

I don't know who you are. But before you make any comment, please educate yourself.
Tylenol can kill anyone if not used properly. Oxygen and water and kill anyone if not taken in moderate quantities. This might not be the best drug out there, but just because it is prescribed to someone, does not mean that the person is not intelligent.
Uh, perhaps you should question your intelligence, for only and ignorant person can write such a comment.

My son was diagnosed with Adhd at age 6 & he was put on vyvanse before school hour before leaving so he had to get hour early 6ish so it would be effective by time he got breakfast at school & by time it wore off after school round dinner 5ish I seen a horrible side of my son where he lashed out at me & I became very worried for him & myself so I consulted a pharmacist that I trust bcuz of as my luck would have it his doctor was on vacation. The pharmacist said he would normally NOT advise someone to stop taking a medication without consulting the doctor he DID advise me to stop bcuz he had only been on it for 2 weeks but that I was to leave word with the doctor. Thankfully everything worked out & medicine changed. Now I myself am in my late 40s & have been diagnosed with Adhd I was given adderall the first 2 scripts I went through were jus amphetamine that's all it said I felt great. Note I also suffer from severe depression & anxiety amongst other health issues so feeling great was an awesome change. However this last month the pharmacy gave me amphetamine salts.Wow I noticing big change for the worst. How do I politely tell my doctor that I would prefer NOT to have the amphetamine salts without coming off like an addict bcuz I know of the risks with this drug bcuz I am also on additional drugs that fall in the addictive catagory.

Hey.....I was on brand name Adderall XR 10mg for months and now my insurance wont pay for it. The Generic...mixed amphetamine salts are complete garbage. I feel irritable, fall asleep, have no motivation at all. Of course though if i complain its going to be told it's all in my head. Today I got the global brand and can't notice a difference...feel, irritable, out of sorts. KEEP AWAY FROM THE ACTAVIS BRAND. You will end up in a psych ward. Good luck. We can thank our dipstick president Obama for ruining our health care system. I'd rather just chew chicklets than take this garbage. Teva brand is a bit better. TTYL

It would appear that you are referring to a personal experience, when you say that you know what you are talking about. A personal experience in no way ensures that you know what you are talking about. In fact, no truly knowledgeable person would make the assertions you are making. I suggest you obtain actual statistics and facts before doling out pseudo-advice.

i was prescribed this in 6th grade. i stoped becuase i knew i was to young for this and i didnt need it but now im a freshman in college and i got prescribed it and my grades have gone up dramatically i want to learn im so engaged even feel that way days after taking it. really helps me! if it works for you than good :)

Yes honey, PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN TO THE MARGARUTA~ shees! While she "might" ave one good point in her entire answer...it is so very obvious that she believes she is a "KNOW IT ALL" and she is not. No-One Is, really. I suposed if you got this drug off the "streets" well then yeah u r probably addicted...? or maybe u just like it? At any rate, Just talk to ur doc, or Nurse or even a Medical treatment hotline...YOU decide if this particular drug is for you or not! We are all different! And that she had to throw GOD into this really pisses me off! Who does she think she is??!!

First and foremost, I hope your doctor is not a physician. They don't study how the brain works, everyone is different. Since in was 19 in was diagnosed with add after hrs of psychological testing. I always took the tablets, generic veesion. My insurance change for 6 months and I was only able to take adderall XR, time release capsules. It made me shakey, and i had problems sleeping. I'm back on my norm, and feeling normal again. Thank goodness.

Marguerite: You have to idea what you are talking about!!! The dyes and other agents in medicatiosn also have an impact. From the small amounts, even the hormones your body makes are smaller doses and the impact is great! The generic drug industry wants you to believe there is no difference, but that is all MARKETING>

Marketing is what people believe when they do not research and experience for themselves.
