Difference Between Adderall And Amphetamine Salts (Page 19)

I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of drug. The more I "google" the more I want to stay away from the generic form. Also- almost every pharmacy around has little to no Adderall Brand IR tablets in stock, they only have the generic brands and possibly Adderall brand but only the Extended-Release. My Doctor seems to firmly believe that there is no difference between Adderall XR and Adderall IR, and because she prescribed me the generic form (Amphetamine Salts), she probably doesn't see a difference there either. I don't have the time to ask 10 doctors what they think so if anyone has any information or experiences please share! Thank you!

generic adderall is terrible. especially global. all i did was sleep and be miserable on it. Teva is bad but better then global and actavis. i miss getting brand name. Thanks to meathead obama insurance will not pay for it.

So true. People are all different. From foods we crave to meds that cause allergic reaction. Some people can die from a bee sting. With this being said, it runs true on meds. Fillers, salts, coloring it all or just one can make an incredible difference on delivery. The biggest drug dealers are the pharmaceutical companies hands down. The only drug I'm aware of that can't waiver 10-20% active ingredient is insulin. I may be wrong, but I believe this is it. So that means these meds vary greatly.. Then you wonder why so many addicts come out of these self medicating. Pharmaceutical companies need to have more accountability. This is just a thought.

I agree. Margarita had no idea what it's like living with ADD. Before I got treated, my work suffered greatly because it could not concentrate and pay attention to detail. I'm in the medical field, so charting and implementing details is crucial. I was like Margarita and didn't want treatment because I didn't want to be a "drug addict." Well let me tell you how that worked out for me. I was zoning out as usual and accidentally hit a homeless man on a bike. Luckily he was ok and he took off before I could call the police for an accident report. That was the realization that I truly needed help.So, people shouldn't judge until they live with the everyday struggle ADD brings.

I too have to get the generic adderall, and not only is not affective, but I believe something else is added to the generic to cause even more dangerous undocumented side affects. When I first began taking it I was getting the name brand, and it helped me. Since I am on Medicaid, I have to get generic, or my insurance will not pay. I have to take it, after I suffered from some kind of hormonal change, and unexpected illness. I had narcolepsy, and could not function as a parent. I suffered a stroke, and the adderall helped me in so many ways and it is an antidepressant, it helps me study, focus, stay on task, and function as a parent. But the generic one is dangerous, and not effective like it should be. I suggest doing as I do... pay for the name brand.

In my personal life as well as in my counseling practice with patients, the consensus seems to be that if you are going the generic route with Adderall, the Barr formulary - 20 mg peach ovals are the only option for a smooth, even release of medication that is close to the brand rx.

I know what you mean. All I do is sleep on the Generic Adderall XR. It is crap. Something is going on with this medication. I feel sick and tired. Don't feel like doing anything. Brand Name is so expensive. Since Obama screwed our health care system up we are all doomed. Medicaid and Medicare....Since the Govt. pays you get crap. This insurance or no insurance. Thanks Obama. Can't wait until your sorry but is gone!!

I agree with you. Margarita does not know what she's talking about. Just because you cannot see inside our head, that doesn't mean that were not injured. A lot of the mental illness cannot be seen. I'm 39, five 2 1/2 feet, 109 pounds. I always been in sports. I suffer from adult ADHD, depression and anxiety. I am currently on 20 mg of Lexapro, 50 mg of trazodone or as needed .5 lorazepam or as needed. 20 mg of Adderall. This month I had to change from Adderall two amphetamine salts due to Medi-Cal not covering the name brand Adderall. I was doing very well on my focus, attention, and completing every day demands. When I started amphetamine salts I felt like I was taking sugar pills. Just to prove myself I took two RX from amphetamine salts, a total of 40 g. I Still felt like I took sugar pill. I had 10 mg of the brand Adderall and took it to test my Hypothesis. I fell a little better to get myself around and bright my son from school. Operating with mental illness and it is extremely hard. I never liked to take pills. I was diagnosed 15 years ago. My condition got worse and worse. Until I could not function. With my depression I'm doing better but my attention and focus are very off. Sometimes I just want to give up. It takes so much for me try to feel better, to be able to live a normal life. God bless you all of you who are in the same boat as me.

Q: Are "generic" types of Adderall inferior (like mixed salts d amphetamine combos) Teva, Autopharm,others. A: In most clinicians opinions, they would recommend for most patients the Shire 12h XL formulations, and similar new patches or enhanced Rx's for easy QD dosing and steady, consistent blood plasma levels throughout the entire day. With school kids and college age and older individuals these newer pro drug formulas offer superior efficacy. Most insurance cover these newer Rx's.

Actually Add and ADHD have the highest IQ of most; my doctor was adhd an introvert & im an exegert/there's an IQ test for 3$ I think on the computer, has nothing to do with school: it's how your brain precieves items, I think there are 20 questions & I passed them all, remarked I was a genuious. My problem in school was conduct I couldn't sit still: they didn't have this Med when I was in school..

You actually have NO idea at all what you are talking about Margarita. Based on your response, I suspect you're affiliated with Scientology or some other closely-related cult. Your reply is laughable to those of us who actually have knowledge on how drugs work; and no, it is not the same as coke. To my knowledge, no pharmaceutical companies use coke to treat ADD or ADHD.

Adderall or amphetamine salts can be effective in the treatment of many psychological disorders not the least of which is ADD, when prescribed by a doctor and taken appropriately it's an effective treatment. NEVER start or stop taking a prescription without speaking to YOUR doctor. NO ONE should give medical advice without a licence or without seeing the patient. DO NOT FOLLOW ADVICE OF SOMEONE WHO DISLIKES A DRUG BECAUSE THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND ITS PROPER USE.

Actually the doctor is the drug pusher in most cases. I have yet to see the drug dealer AKA PHARMACEUTICAL REP sit and bring a feast at a pharmacy. In most cases the pharmacist knows far more about the medications than the shrinks writing them. In Ohio the shrink can see you for 5 minutes and write your script, then on to the next victim waiting for their script.

Another person who has no idea what they are talking about. Pharmaceutical reps don't go to pharmacies. They bring the drugs to the doctors who then write the scripts based on what their patients need. There are no "victims" involved unless you are going to some back alley doctor instead of a reputable one. This is how our medical industry works. Pharmacists don't write prescriptions. Therefore, there is no need for a rep to visit a pharmacy. I should know since I am a pharmaceutical rep (or a "drug dealer" as you so ignorantly call it.)
