I am 59 years old and have had type 2 diabetes for ~5 years. I've just relocated from Texas to California and am between doctors. I'm 5'5", weigh 260 lbs, and recently started to have extremely low (30) blood sugars at night. I've been taking 2 x 500 mg Metformin and 1 x 2 mg Glimepiride after breakfast and after dinner. What can/should I decrease? ## Hello, Joe! How are you? What type of foods do you eat? Have you tried having a small snack, before bed? Have you gotten into a new doctor, yet? That would be the best thing to do, rather than trying to adjust your medications on your own. You are diabetic, so you need to have things checked out by a doctor regularly. Do you get a lot of exercise?

I am on SSI and I do have BCBS as backup but Metanx is still a very expensive co=pay. My arthritis doctor has me on 2 pills a day and it seems to help and it has helped my RBC count to be normal which had been low for years. ## Hello, Mary! How are you? There is a savings program that may help, you can find information on it at Metanx.com click here. Is there anything else I can help with? ## You should have Medicaid as secondary insurance. Since you have the BCBS, I'm not sure if Medicaid will be of help with the this in your state, but it won't hurt to ask.

After I started taking 1 glucovance 500 mg per day for last 12 months my cholesterol level went from183 to 217 Even though I am watching my diet ## Hello, Mimi! How are you? No, it hasn't been known to cause that. What types of foods do you eat, though? Not everything we think is healthy really is healthy, some may still contain a lot of cholesterol and fat.

I too have taken 850 mg Zyd tabs dispensed from Walmart. My A1c went from 6.0 to 7.1 with no change in diet and exercise. They also have an odd taste. I just switched to 850 mg made by Sun dispensed from Medco/Express scripts and after 3 days my Glucose is now back to the 120's. For me I found Zyd ineffective. There are differences in the generics. If one brand doesn't work for you try another before you give up on Metformin altogether. ## You are correct, there can be differences and that does make them less effective for some people. You may want to double check in the future, when you get a refill, to make sure that you don't get the one from Zydus, again. Is there anything I can help with?

Just has a 30 on one side and no line. I found in wrong bottle ## Never mind. Found out it was outdated actos The actos was really light on other side. Thank you ## @lonewolfangel, Thanks for sharing your finding on that pill ID. I did some research as well and came to the same conclusion after seeing an actual photo of the pill with Actos embedded on one side and 30 on the other. If you need any other more information on the pill, I also found out which inactive ingredients are contained in this tablet. This includes the following: carboxymethylcellulose calcium + hydroxypropyl cellulose + lactose monohydrate + magnesium stearate I know some people can be more sensitive to certain binders/fillers that they put in these tablets, so I wanted to make sure you got those details as well. Did she suffer any adverse effects? Taking so may so fast could result in an overdose, even for someone who isn't diabetic. She really needs to get help with this and have some evaluations done to see if she may have caused liver damage, or damage to other organs.

I tried Metanx (cost me a $160.00 copay) and could not use it after 5 days. I did not sleep for 5 days even with a sleeping pill. Also had severe calf cramps in bed and also the pain I had was doubled. I don't know how this medicine was approved for diabetic neuropathy!!! Now I am out all this money and still have severe diabetic nueropathy. ## Hello, Trix! How are you? There really aren't any side effects, so to speak, from Metanx, it is just a supplement that contains nutrients that can help treat or prevent diabetic neuropathy, it's not an actual drug, at all. It's actually classified as a medical food. The insomnia makes some sense, because adding the nutrients to your body could cause you to be more energized than usual. However, the cramping and pain does not. Have...

I took the generic version, did not agree with me (muscle pain). I switched to fortament recently but the 2 pills look exactly the same. What is the visual difference between these 2 meds? I know metformin is generic & fortamet is a brand name. I would like to know the difference in what they look like, please. ## Hello, Elle! How are you? What are the markings on them? I bet that if you look, they are different between the generic and name brand. Visually, what they look like means nothing, what tells them apart are the markings on them and the formulation of them. Can you please post back with ore details? Thanks!

Sir I am diabetic patient level II and the decease was discovered in my body in 1991. Lately I was advised by my Doctor Galvus Met 50/1000 1 + 1, with diamicron MR 60 one and half tablet before breakfast as well as one 10point insuline dose at 10 am daily. With above medication although i had good control and my hbA1c checked last week was 7.1, but I was experiencing low sugar level often in late afternoon ( twice or thrice weakly) whenever I had much fatique of running arround. Now I have replaced my morning dose with Metformin 850 instead of Galvus met 50/1000. since then I not have low sugar problem any more, but my randum sugar comes 200 plus some times. Pl advise if this combination of medication is ok or shuld i go back to Galvusmet 50/1000 1 +1. Thanks a lot for your consideration.

Does anyone know why this drug is unavailable now? I have checked with ten pharmacies so far. ## Hello, DebCar! How are you? It's hard to say, the company may just be having a shortage, they may have discontinued it, or the pharmacies may have just switch to a cheaper supplier. Did you try asking them if they can order it in for you?
