Day 1 Of Xulane Instead Of Ortho Evra (Page 7)

Updated

I HATE this new patch already. Did not adhere to my skin as easily as ortho and came off about 4 hours after applying. I've been on ortho evra for 5 months loved it and never once had a problem but I already can't stand xulane and so I don't know what I'm going to do ! :( My insurance switched me to xulane because it's the generic brand to ortho evra. This sucks I hate life. Ps. I'm 18

I was on Ortho Evra for 8 years without any side effects or issues. Due to the back order I was forced onto Xulane and have since had spotting while on the patch, I've broken out all over, bloating, cramping, experiencing depression/withdrawal/disengagement and my mood has been ALL over the board. I haven't been able to sleep at night, hungry all the time, and oddly enough I've been itching all over my whole body. I'm furious that I'm being forced into using this new medication!

****EVERYONE**** PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION TO GET ORTHO EVRA BACK!

I'm wondering if the problem is that everyone seemed to have been on OE for a long time before switching. I read the OE was discontinued due to the amount of hormones it was releasing was too excessive and deemed dangerous. Though I don't think our doctors should be telling us that Xulane is the same because it does have less hormones, and also does NOT stick. I am constantly getting wrinkles and edges lifting up. Since putting it on my back I've had a lot less problems, though. But still, should have freedom to put it where we're comfortable with it. I never took OE and I'm not having any of the problems everyone else is having and I've been using Xulane for a few months. Maybe it's the switch over that is the problem, your body doesn't like the change in amount of hormones. I will have to see how well my body handles it the more I use it, but so far I'm not having any of these symptoms at all.

Where did you see the reason for its discontinuation? I read on the FDA website that manufacturing or OE was canceled due to a "Business Decision".

My Ins switched me to Xulane sometime last year, after being on Ortho Evra for about six years. Right away I was experiencing SEVERE night sweats. I called my Dr and all she said was "that's not normal, come in so I can see you." Instead I asked her to specify to my Ins that I needed brand rather than generic. I was able to get Ortho Evra for a few more months but now it can't be found anywhere and I'm stuck with Xulane. So far the night sweats haven't been as bad as last time, but instead I'm experiencing severe photosensitivity; and I'm already as pale as a ghost!

I have been on orthro evra on and off for almost two years then my insurance company stopped covering it and switched me to xulane. At first I thought it would be cool since it is slightly smaller but I was terribly wrong, its so itchy and constantly falls off and makes me feel so fatigued and dizzy. Before that I tried the depo which I had an allergic reaction to and never tried again. I went to my gyno because mt insurance wouldn't give me anymore xulane until she sent a dovtors reccomendation to them bit she basically said that my insurance wont even cover that anymore they only cover 3 types now since most of the money is spread because of obama care. Luckily for me my gyno is giving me samples of orthro so for anyone else on a low income insurance my advice would be to find a doctor willing to give samples like mine

The sales numbers on Ortho Evra dropped drastically, so the "Business Decision" reasoning would make sense. I read somewhere: "Prescriptions for Ortho Evra have declined steadily over the last five years, from 5 million in 2006 to about 1.3 million last year."

they discontinued it? Why is that? Are you sure.

I have been on OE for about a year and a half for ovarian cysts and i had some weight gain, but not really any other serious issues. When xulane came out my insurance started charging me $20 for ortho evra but i continued to get it until the backorder crisis happened and i called around everywhere with no luck. So i started on xulane.

I started the xulane patch a week ago today (5/30/15) and i have been having suicidal thoughts and severe depression. I cry over nothing, i contemplate driving my car into a lake or plunging sharp objects into my arteries and i just had an emotional melt down at work today. I went to my doctor and she said i should discontinue using it immediately. I am looking into non hormonal paraguard for contraception because after this i am afraid of switching to anything else and will gladly take painful rupturing cysts over suicidal thoughts any day..

This sounds terrible..I have had similar, although not as severe side effects. There are so many more women out there who are having these issues and it is important for us to help us all! Please if you have the time do the following:

1. Sign this petition: change.org/p/janssen-pharmaceuticals-inc-bring-back-ortho-evra-and-get-rid-of-generic-xulane

2. Also, I know it's about a 15 minute phone call but please call the company who makes Xulane and explain of all symptoms. 800-848-0461. They said when I called that more people needed to call for them to look into it!

I called Janssen Pharmaceuticals who manufactured Ortho Evra. I was told that they are no longer manufacturing Ortho Evra for financial reasons. It seems like a crime that insurance companies would only approve Xulane for most Ortho Evra patients, putting Ortho Evra into the bankruptcy basket for Janssen, ruining the lives of so many loyal Ortho Evra users by claining that Xulane is the patch! I almost died on Xulane after being on Ortho Evra for 8 great years! Does anyone want to get a legal suit going?

I would most definitely support a legal suit! If you get one started I know I would be interested. Please contact me if you are serious about this.

Also, I don't know if you have heard but there is now a new law saying that if your doctor recommends the brand name, the insurance HAS to cover it. So we may be able to get Jansen back on the market.

UPDATE:

Ok, so I also called Janssen to hear that it was discontinued with my own ears, and to ask if it really is still available in Europe...? The representative didn't know, but gave me their UK website to email them and ask. If so, who else has though about going through a Canadian pharmacy who imports from the UK?

I also have been on Nuvaring for 4 weeks now, and I'm not satisfied with it. Internal irritation, feeling super lethargic (I'm an athlete), along with a HUGE DROP in libido, not to mention that my boyfriend doesn't really like it either.

I FINALLY read a review from a woman who had been on OE for over 5 years, switched to Xulane and was satisfied. So, I guess I'm going to try Tulane next week??? I'm so scared. This sucks so badly. I never had one bad side effect with OE. So the dosages are supposedly the same between OE and Tulane, but we all know there's no quality control with generics, and from month to month they could be made by different manufactures. Damn, I hope this thing works.

I absolutely hate xulane and now I just found out they discontinued ortho evra. I'm so upset that I didnt even find out about it until my refill was due. I think I may go back to pills rather than try the generic again.
