I am 25 and recently developed symptoms indicating possible ADHD, anxiety, and or depression. I have been given an SSRI among other meds to help control this. Nothing seems to work as well as the generic brand of Adderall. I was a bit disapointed to know that I was getting generic since I know from my class that it does not always work as well as name brand due to the fact that even though it contains the same amount of active ingredient, the fillers and pill form are almost always different which can affect the way your body absorbs and reacts to it. I am satisfied with this medication though. It seems to pick me up and help keep the million things running through my head in order (even though they are still running a mile a minute!) All I can say to those that it is not working for is, I'm sorry that it does not work well for you and maybe you should talk to your doc about getting a different medication. Just because the generic of this sucks for you does not mean that the generic of another wont work well (and still be covered by insurance) I just hope that this continues to be as helpful as it is now so I do not have to keep switching meds to find the right one for me.

I am a 50 year old white male with I have comorbid bipoloar II and ADD. The ADD was Dx'd about 2 years ago. Bipolar was Dx'd 22 years ago. I have been taking the D-Amphetamine salts combo for my ADD from the start. I take Depakote and Zyprexa for the BP II. I had been on prozac for a few years, but my doctor took me off of it.The ADD medication has made all the difference in the world in helping me to FINALLY discover just who it is that I really am. I usually have at least one prolonged major-depressive episode every year, usually in the winter. This past winter, however, mean ole Mr Depression failed to make an appearance. I did have some days when I was more or less useless, had no energy for anything except certain things that I selfishly undertook, because it felt so nice to just putter around. I accomplished hardly anything, with the exception of cooking supper every night. Weird, but regardless of my mood---up or down---I always cook supper. Cooking doesn't seem like a chore. Granted, I'm no expert, but I do some decent meals...
But I digress. If this was earlier in the day, when I was medicated and focused, I would never have digressed like that.
I'm pretty sure I've been in a hypomanic state for the last 3-4 months. However, I seem to be pretty creative and I'm reaching goals that I set, not trying to do a million things all in the same week...
I am impressed by the paradoxical calming effect the amphetamine provides. I also take Xanax, almost forgot, but I rarely get super-anxious these days..
I'm curious as to whether the ADD medication is also helping my mood-disorder as well. Full-blown mania and deep, dark depression seem to have taken a break for a while. I used to get anxious about making a phone call, and would actually have to script it out, afraid that I would sound odd and jump from subject to subject. These days, those types of concerns don't even occur to me.
It's really great to go OUT there and just be another person that can actually function without a grand-scheme to guide me.
I am hopeful that the days of intense depressive periods are going to be more and more infrequent. I also haven't been manic, and I've learned to handle my money and control my impulses. I'm not not sure how my med-mix is actually working this out, but things are almost too good to be true. I'll knock on wood and stay true to my doctor's advice. Has anyone gotten almost COMPLETE relief from your particular treatment? It feels weird to NOT feel weird, so-to-speak...

Was just Rx'd Amp. Salts 30mg-1AM-1/2PM. I have Sleep Apnea and use a C-PAP at night, but still continte to fall asleep in the daytimes. Was taking Provigial, but my Medicare Advantage Plaln has to pay over $500 in addition to my $60 contribution and it is going to dump me into the donut hole to fast, along with other meds. I am also Bi-Bolar II. I had to get away from the donut-holle so the aforementioned had to go the wayside. I also think it;s effectiveness is beginning to wane. I am starting to fall asleep again and that would mean my job. But from the comments I am reading, I am going to cut the afternoon dose in half and take 7.5mg and see what happens here. I hate the feeling of trying to audit med charts and continually being on the edge of dreaming. But I also do not want to be stuck on the ceiling!!!!So, I eaten a bit of lunch which I pray I do not vomit. I am a nurse, so I shall report to my doc if necessary. Write back with any advice for me.

My grand-son started taking 20mg of D-amphetamine two days ago & went to sleep right after 12 noon. Is the medication surpose to do this??

Ive been taking adderall and then the generic d-amph. for going on 5 yrs now. i remember the first time i took the 20mg tab I was at work at my computer and i suddenly felt so calm i thought i might be sleepy; but I just continued feeling calm. It was the first time i didnt feel tense; anxious and paranoid. i was able to focus at meetings and actually take part in discussions. this medication really helped me control my restlessness, anxiety and helped me to stop trying to multi-task. In other words, i didnt feel so hyper any more even tho i did feel that my heart beat was more rapid and my pupils were dialated.

I'm prescribe to the 20's. They are very helpful with school and the bad side effects went away after a couple weeks (ie loss of hunger, constipation sometimes). Still have trouble sleeping at times but just pop another one in the AM and your good to go.

Received my generic Adderall by Barr mfg. Dose is 20mg. 3x daily. Never had any adverse reactions until this dose manufactured by Barr. My mouth gets a weird coating inside, my tongue gets red with painful bumps and my lips get swollen inside. Has anyone experienced this? When I discontinue the med. my symptoms subside within 48 hours.

Martin you are right! It is just baby speed. I only take it when I have a big project or if I have study for a test. I t will keep you up all night and will make you look ragged. I think people should half it, if they have too. Does anyone have trouble with there back after about 6 hours of taking the medication? I do - maybe I am doing too much around the house. I cleaned out the garage in one whole day. Thanks - for the reply or send by way of e-mail

I just started taking d- amphetamine salt combo 20 mg tablets twice a day but I've been mostly taking just one a day. I'm pretty sure im adhd because I forget stuff all the time forget what Im talking about, get distracted easily lose my train of thought or forget what I'm doing. I'm really anxious all the time and I fidget with everything . So I went to a physciatrist and she prescribed me this stuff and I just dont trust it. it might be making my bloodpressure high so I'm supposed to take my blood pressure, take the medicine then take my blood pressure again an hour later. and today was the first day of doing that and it was like 130 ove 83 the first time then it was like 44 over 90 the second time so needless to say I'm a little concerned. and my stomache on it. I always feel so queezy and I've been having some shortness of breathe and a few minor headaches. I havent started school again so I'm not sure if its helping my focus but I just feel kinda light headed and sick on it and I don't know if this is the answer. oh and the other day I took it and was playing basketball and once I was working out and I felt really wierd and sick I just am a little concerned about this stuff.

I am taking amphetamine salt cmb 20mg and i took one at 6 pm and it is working great but i was wondering when it wears off and im not done studying can i take another? my test is at 11 am tomorrow. Or should i just wait to take it before my test?

It take a while for your system to get used to the medicine. But after taking it a while those things stopped for me. My blood pressure will do the same thing after I have taken mine in the morning, but it usually wears off after a little while. Sounds to me like that is what yours is doing. And the reason yours gets so low is because your takeing the blood pressure meds. I would talk with my Dr. if I was you about not taking the blood pressure med. for a while to see if it is really needed.

i need help!!! i just started the 20mg today, and the bottle said 3 times a day. i did one at 830am. the second at 130pm, and the third at 630pm. around 9 i felt shakey, chills, nauseous, i wanted to vomit. i couldnt eat all day. i took adderall for about 10 years. i just started the meds again after 6 years being off it and was prescribed this generic. its 1230am now and i have the chills, my hearts beating somewhat normal, but im shaking and im beyond nauseous. Someone thats been on this med please tell me if you experienced it, and if theres anything to do. im scared to take it in the morning now...

I just started this generic form yesterday and it sucks. The symptoms you're describing seems pretty common. I've been reading up on it all day long, and am now suffering through the naseau and the chills. The problem with a generic form is that the FDA requires only 80% of the active ingredients compared to that of the Brand name; it's not even the same drug! Aside from the queasiness, my thoughts have been a bit scattered and I've had a headache all day long. These pink tablets are a terrible substitute, as most people have discovered. My psychiatrist is stating on my prescription that the Adderal is a necessity, and that no supplements can be given. I suggest you try this if your insurance is charging you outrageously for the real thing.

MY DAUGHTER WHO IS 6 AND HAVE ADHD JUST STARTED ON AMPHETAMINE 5MG ON WEDNESDAY IT WORKED FOR ALMOST 4 HOURS AND THEN SHE WAS BACK TO BEING VERY ACTIVE SO I CALLED HER DOCTOR AND EXPLAIN THIS SO SHE TOLD ME TO GIVE HER ANOTHER PILL 5 HOURS FROM THE FIRST ONE WHICH I DID TODAY AND SHE HAS BEEN PERFECT BUT IM A LITTLE CONCERN ABOUT THE SIDE EFFECTS TO IT AND BEING THAT IM NOT THE ONE TAKING IT I DONT KNOW WHAT LOOK OUT FOR CAN ANYONE HELP ME ALSO SHE IS ON BREAK FROM SCHOOL RIGHT NOW SO IM ALSO CONCERN WHEN SHE RETURN BACK

I was on the Adderall (XR) 20mg from 2006 for a year, it helped me focus. My heart rate increased, I would sweat more, but I could stay focused and get things done.

I just started it back up only last week, and I think I got the salt combo 20mg XR (Pharm said it was the generic). I took my first pill at around 3pm (as opposed to the morning). The effects were slightly different. I became more focused, but only slightly - - not as a significant of an effect as I had experienced before, meaning, I used to just get tunnel vision on finishing tasks and closing up loose ends, but it wasn't that dramatic this time around.

I felt a slight heart rate increase, but didn't sweat any more (due to body temp rising), and I did get insomnia and appetite suppressed for sure, but there was something else I never experienced or expected: decrease in libido. it never happened prior, but this time I couldn't ejaculate at all. I don't know why this side effect happened now as opposed to my earlier experiences. It's really a downer.

i am 67 and just started taking d-amphetamine salt com xr 20mg caps. i have a daughter who at 17 was diagnosed with adhd. that was 50 yrs ago. dr. thinks its possible i have always had adhd, and it its progressing. i have even thought i was getting demetia. please if there is anyone older with this problem please respond. thank you,
