Hello im only on day 2 of chantix and although i gill u ts already working i dont fill the need for a cig im really tired with a slight sore throat could it just be a cold anyone else have these issues while faking this pill? ## Hello, Kim! How are you? Throat irritation and fatigue can both be side effects of this medication, they should go away as your body gets used to the medication. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, depression and weight changes. Can anyone that's taken it chime in with their experiences? ## Thanks today is day 3 and i dont feel as bad im sure it will go away after some time!!

I took Chatix a few years ago and quit for almost two years. Then I started smoking again. I went back on Chantix - when I was ready for the second package my doctor was away but I had some left from the last time (they were expired by 6 months) so I have been taking them - it is day 39 and Im still smoking - I missed several doses during this time - forgot to take 1 pill here and there - I don't want to start all over - can I just start the new rx (the second pack - which I just had refilled) and pick a quit date within the week??? suggestions ## Hello, Emilia! How are you? What has your doctor advised? I really don't think you'd need to fully start over, but that is up to your physician. As to still smoking, the medication can't do it all, you do have to try to stop, a...

I been taking it for about 6 weeks now every day. I cut back on smoking to less than a pk a day but still not kicking it, stress triggers urges to smoke. Lately I have doubled the dose and it seems to help, but I'm cautious doing so because I get a little nausea after. I wonder if its best to take it mostly when I'm awake? Its actually worked better for me to stop drinking instead of smoking, strangely, I bought a case of Coors light and I drank 1 and they been sitting on the floor not in the fridge almost 2 months. What can I do to help the drug work? Can I think anti smoking thoughts or read anti smoking material to help effectiveness? ## I tried chantix a few years ago and couldn't stay on it when I got to the blue pills. The nausea was too much. So, when I tried it again...

I started taking Chantix two and a half weeks ago. The first three days I had no issues, however when I started taking it twice a day I became very nauseous. I think I have over come that by making sure that I eat something with it (never ate prior to coming to work in the morning and a granola bar seems to help). My biggest concern that is in the past 14 days I have gained ten pounds. I feel like this is bloating and water weight however very concerning to me. I run at least every other day and I have not changed my eating habits. Last night when I came home from my run my left ankle was triple the size. No pain no injury. This morning it was back to normal but now swelling again. I called the doctor and they said my other option is Wellbutrin. I am afraid to make the change and not su...

I quit taking Chantix a few days ago and I am having a very hard time. I am very very sad and can't stop crying. I take Prozac and Effexor. It has been two days and I think I feel a bit better now, but haven't been able to leave the house and have been asleep for most of the last 48 hours. Does anyone know how long this will last? I think I am feeling a bit better. ## Have you consulted your doctor? Has it improved at all, yet? In this case, it is difficult to say if it is from stopping the Chantix, from the other medications, or from a combination of both. It could be a rebound/withdrawal effect from stopping, or a backfire effect from one of the others, so you do need to consult your doctor to get to the root of the problem. ## Hi. I am having similar symptoms. I stopped takin...

I took Chantix and quit smoking years ago. Lately I started again. The Chantix wasn't working this time so I doubled the dosage, it is working perfectly now but I'm afraid the double dose will kill me!? My side effects are the exact opposite of what people describe. It seems to help my mood, I feel better, I'm doing really well and I'm not smoking no bad dreams none of that. Only the fear that the double dose is dangerous. Anyone have an opinion here? ## P.s. When I say I doubled the dose I don't mean I went from the starter pack to the blue ones, I'm taking 2 blue ones at the time, twice a day ## How are you doing? Have you experienced any problems? It would be best to inform your doctor that you've doubled up, so they can check for any possible problems. Ch...

Does a protein drink in the morning, before taking Zantex, be considered a meal? Don't want to get nauseous, but not a breakfast eater. ## Hello, Ken! How are you? That should be fine, unless your doctor or pharmacist see some problem with it. It usually doesn't have to be a full meal to help prevent the nausea, even a small snack or glass of milk may help. The FDA lists the other typical side effects of Chantix as possibly including dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, gas, headache and unusual dreams. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am in the medical field and have seen the changes since Obamacare has taken effect. Every doctor must now ask if you have ever smoked and this is where premiums will go up in the near future. All I want to do is be smoke free - how can I do this and keep it confidential? ## Hello, Colleen! How are you? Even if you quit now, you'll never be able to answer no to that question, since you have been a smoker. There's just really no way to keep it confidential from medical personal, because it could affect some necessary medical treatments, such as anesthesia, if you require surgery. You don't have to tell them how you quit or etc. but you can't hide the fact that you were once a smoker. Chantix is listed by the FDA as being used for smoking cessation. Its typical side effec...

Started my fourth day today. Took pill 1 of 2 this morning, will dose a second time this evening with my meal. The medicine makes me feel quiet, and somewhat moody but nothing I can't work through. My natural tendency today is to isolate. I don't really feel like being sociable, though I wi be anyway just to try and fight against it (if indeed those symptoms are due to the Chantix). I already notice a considerable difference in taste and smell. The best way to describe it is I now "notice" myself smoking the cigarette. It becomes less desirable, though I do still have cravings as I'm a pack-a-day smoker. I have had a mood swing or two at work, but that could just be that I work in a crazy environment. I don't want to fall victim to self fulfilling prophecy, meani...

I am on my 12th week of Chantix and have been cig free for one week. When should I stop taking the Chantix. I am a little afraid if I stop taking the medication, I will want to start smoking again. ## Hello, Christine! How are you? Congrats on quitting, that's very tough to do! I'd suggest checking with your doctor to see what they recommend. Some people do need to take it for a longer period of time and it can be taken for another 12 weeks to help you remain smoke free. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, mood swings, dry mouth and headache. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Congrats! Besides the typical side effects mentioned in the previous post listen to the hundreds of serious warnings they gloss over i...

I am on my 12th week of Chantix and have been cig free for one week. When should I stop taking the Chantix. I am a little afraid if I stop taking the medication, I will want to start smoking again. ## Hi Christine, Congrats on making it to the 12th week! I'm sure it wasn't easy by any means. Just wanted to comment on "when to stop taking chantix"... And I think due to the possibility of withdrawal symptoms, it would probably be best to discuss tapering options with your doctor in order to help minimize any risk factors. A lot of feedback I've seen in other threads talk about depression or irritability being an issue upon quitting, but I think anything mental can be overcome if you surround yourself with positive thoughts and positive people during this sensitive peri...

I'm 2 weeks in with chantix and stopped smoking a week in. Can I stop the pill. ## Hello, Kenny! How are you? Congratulations on quitting!!! However, you should continue that medication for whatever period of time your doctor instructs you to do so. Stopping too early may cause the nicotine cravings to return, so you may start smoking, again. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including: nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Or more like, oh it'd be nice right about now...? ## Have you discussed it with your doctor? It does appear the Chantix has helped you, but you may need to take it for a little longer and/or...

I used Chantix over two years ago to quit smoking. Within a few days my lower legs broke out in a rash and the itching was unbearable. My doctor said to stop using the drug and see if things cleared up. I stopped using the medication. The rash went away a few days later and over time the intense itching subsided. However, to this date my legs still itch. It's a daily irritant. Anyone else with similar experience? ## Hello, Steve! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. However, a medication side effect would not continue for that long after stopping it. The itching is most likely being caused by something else. Are you on any other medications? Have you had it checked out by your doctor? Chantix is approved by the FDA to treat nicotine addiction. Typical...

I used chantix a few yrs ago and quit smoking for almost 4 yrs. I only.took it for a month and it worked great. I quit on my chosen date and every time I thought of smoking I would get nauseous. My only side effects were slight nausea and weight gain. Over the last month I tried taking chantix again, but it has had no effect. Any ideas? ## Hello, Annett! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. However, just because a medication worked for you once, doesn't mean that it will work, again. Our bodies do change with time. Have you considered trying Bupropion? It is another antidepressant that is also approved as a smoking cessation aid. Typical side effects, as listed by the FDA may include nausea, dizziness, nervousness, headache and insomnia.

I'm allergic to sulfa can I take chantix ## Hi tj, According to the FDA, Chantix reportedly contains the following list of inactive ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, anhydrous + dibasic calcium phosphate + croscarmellose sodium + colloidal silicon dioxide + magnesium stearate + Opadry® White (for 0.5 mg) + Opadry® Blue (for 1 mg) + Opadry® Clear. To the best of my knowledge, none of these ingredients show any relation to sulfa. However, I still think it would be wise to double check with the doctor who's prescribing it just to be on the safe side. I hope this helps!

How long does it take for Chantix to be completely out of my system after stopping last dose? ## My husband took chantix 4 years ago and hasn't returned to normal yet. I know that medically the chantix has left his body. I also know medically that once your neurotransmitters have been altered that there is no way to repair them. Should I be prepared to live with this "new" husband that frankly would not have gotten a second date. Any insight will be greatly appreciated

side effects ## Can I please have some information on the stop smoking drug Chanpix. Want to know about side affects and if required on prescription? ## The correct name of the drug is Chantix, the active ingredient is Varenicline. In the U.S. it is a prescription only medication. It is used to treat Nicotine addiction, but works differently than Nicotine patches or Zyban. Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, headache, insomnia and abnormal dreams. Here's a link to our monograph for more information: ## I went to tijauana mexico and bought the drug chanpix for myself in order to stop smoking, I have currently lost my job and health insurance. I quit smoking last night, and went to the doctor today and was prescribed chantix. Has anybody tried this way before? I dont want to start smoking just because I am supposed to work my way in to it as I would feel like I would be going backwards. Any advice? ## Help, Yua! How are you? Congratulations on the choice you've made to get healthy. Quitting isn't easy. And no, there's no need to pick them up, again, just to use the Chantix. It should provide the same support as it would, if you were still smoking. But it could help get rid of the cravings and prevent the urge to pick them back up. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, insomnia, lucid dreaming and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

Instructions said you could keep smoking so I did and kept waiting for that bolt of lightning. In two I doubled up to bout 2 packs day, gave up the pill, and quit trying to quit. Those cigis were much then and eventually I got to three packs. Early 2013 I cold turkey quit. Chantix didn't win any points. ## Hello, Woodyj! How are you? I'm very sorry that you didn't have good results with it. However, many people do, it's really helped a lot of smokers to quit. Though, you aren't supposed to just keep smoking. You can for awhile, but you are supposed to set a quit date, many times after a week of being on it. Typical side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, headache, depression and weight changes. How are you doing, since stopping cold turkey? Do ...
