Chantix - Drug Information And Side Effects (Page 7)
UpdatedHow long does chantix stay in your system? Could it still be affecting me after 9 months?
Took full course of Champix for 3 months, now in 17th month not smoking. However, the drug did cause a fair bit of concern and to be honest it was at it's worse for about 3 - 4 months after last dosage. Remember one night around a week after last dose where i woke at 2 am feeling like I'd fallen off a cliff the withdrawl effect was so strong. I then spent around 2 days with the most incessant earworms of any tracks that would pop into my head, these are still bothering me now.
anger is also still a major problem, swearing at computers at work, at road users, neighbours etc.
To anyone else suffering post dosing just know that the people around you that mattered still matter now after dosing and want you to feel better and i hope you all do too.
I am currently taking Chantix. I am currently on day 6...still smoking....I was just wondering if anyone can tell me, does the\ being lightheaded ever go away. I can handle the nausea if i eat it goes away but I am so tired of walking around feeling like I'm always in a daze. If it doesn't go away is there any way to ease it?
My daughter took Chantix in the early spring of 2011 ( she was 23). She is my only child and we were incredibly close....all thru her childhood, teens and when she lived on her own...we emailed, called every day, shopped, lunched weekly etc. My husband and I paid fer her 4 year degree 100%, a new car upon college graduation- she was treated very well. A couple weeks after she stopped Chantix, while attending a family 50th Anniversary party, she went off on me verbally ( including the F word in front of the church ladies!) and said she never wanted to see me again. This was a week after Mother's Day, where she told me at brunch that I was the best mom ever... I tried every single approach possible over the last 3 years to "get her back". I have not seen, hugged, nor had a verbal conversation with her since. In THREE years. She initially accused me via email back when it happened, of punching her in the head 10 times when she was 16. ( what???) In reality, ONE time when she was 16, she smart mouthed me and I slapped her. ONE time. I felt terrible- we made up and never spoke about it again. She was never even spanked- a really well-behaved girl. She was smart and witty ( started college at 16) and we loved each other to pieces. She eloped with her long time boyfriend/ fiance in 2012. She moved out of state without telling me where. Somehow she is keeping a very high paying, high level security clearance job with DHS in DC. I left her father when she was an infant because he was abusive. The men in his family are all a bit nuts. I think she had a latent emotional condition genetically from him and the Chantix set that off. Anyway, my heart is absolutely broken. Chantix has ruined my life. I am 100% certain it re-wired her brain. She will not respond to her Aunts emails ( my sisters) and has not seen anyone in our entire family since. My older sister, her favorite Aunt, was killed by a teen driver in DC last year. Her funeral was about a 20 min. drive from my daughters apt. in DC. Her cousin emailed her and so did I. She didnt make it. On top of all this, no one but my hsband and myself seem to believe it was Chantix. I am sure. I knew my daughter very well. She is not the same person and it looks like she may never be again.
I posted this on FB over a year ago....I'm still having seizures and periods of what the doctors call "altered consciousness".
I took Chantix in an effort to quit smoking. During the second week strange things started to happen: I'd wake up somewhere other than in bed; I had flashbacks of dreams that were so vidid they made me sick; my heartbeat became irregular; I started hearing things that weren't there, and; I started to view sleep as the perfect opportunity to practice death. Doctor said I had stress and anxiety over my mom and needed to talk to somebody.
OK, so over the next few days I lost my taste buds, my appetite and five pounds. Worse for me, I was becoming incontinent. I had strange head and body aches and started to break out in nasty bruises around my pelvic bones and large joints. I told my husband that my skeleton was fighting to get out and my skull was was trying to squeeze my brain down my throat. Early in my third week I had a seizure. The first seizure of my life. The ER Doctor knew what it was and immediately took me off the Chantix. It's been almost a week and I still have Chantix in my head. My vision is still blurry and new bruises come up when they want. I came home, went online and I am shocked:
NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THAT HALF THE PEOPLE WHO TAKE CHANTIX SUFFER ADVERSE EFFECTS....THAT AIRLINE PILOTS AND BUS DRIVERS ARE FORBIDDEN FROM TAKING IT BECAUSE OF THE RISK OF SUDDEN BLACKOUT...THAT SUICIDE ATTEMPTS ARE COMMON ON CHANTIX...THAT CHANTIX INTERFERES WITH THE CHEMICAL AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS OF THE BRAIN...THAT THE DOPAMINE THE CHANTIX PREVENTS IS ESSENTIAL FOR BOTH PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH.
You can have side effects from stopping smoking (especially HEAVY smokers) for up to a YEAR, with or without Chantix. Some of the side effects you're feeling could just be that.
My husband was on it from October 2011 until the end of December of 2011. He was a different and cruel person during this time. Still, he has moments when he is just down right verbally abusive
I agree there are a lot of similar effects on chantix as LSD. Too bad I've never tried living nor wanted to live on LSD for months in a row. Chantix is horrible. I could only take the 2 pills for a week, took 1 pill daily for 5 weeks, then weaned off for a week. My last quarter pill was four days ago. Horrible moodiness, intense crying, cannot concentrate.. Thankfully no cigs for over 7 wks tho. I hope I'm back to myself soon. Drs should warn us more.... Crazy crazy stuff... Lots of small hallucinations, crazy dreams, very forgetful, heard to breath& horrible nausea. Be careful!!!
My husband started taking chantix in late November he took his final.dose in January of 2014. I noticed that his mood swings were really bad, he drinks alot as well mostly beer. He has not been the same he left me today stating he wasn't happy and he's been having high and low mood swings. His anger is out of control can this be possible from side affects.
NO, that is not the case. Most of us heavy smokers have tried to quit before without serious health issues; I'm still smoking and still suffering Chantix after effects. What are your symptoms, do they feel like normal "quitting" symptoms?
Sounds like my husband did when he started Chantix in October of 2012. He started acting a lot like what you are stating about your husband's behavior. He took it for 30 days, yes, he did quit. His abuse was mental...he was cruel and distanted himself from me, friends and family. He had stopped smoking before (twice) for two years and there were no effects like this. (he went cold turkey). I hope things get better. My husband still gets the Jeckyll/Hyde once in a blue moon, but nothing like it was. We nearly divorced
I am on my 4th week of chantix and am really close to quitting (still working on that one smoke a day cheat - but usually lose the desire to even finish the cigarette). The only side effect for me so far has been the vivid dreams (no nightmares). I have not felt any of the agitation I have felt before trying cold turkey. I have only felt some nausea when lighting up. I will continue chantix and hopefully become finally smoke free. (30 years approx 1 pack or more a day).
OKAY...THIS CAME FROM THE CHANTIX INSERT...YOU BE THE JUDGE.
All patients being treated with CHANTIX should be observed for neuropsychiatric symptoms including changes in behavior, hostility, agitation, depressed mood, and suicide-related events, including ideation, behavior, and attempted suicide. These symptoms, as well as worsening of pre-existing psychiatric illness and completed suicide, have been reported in some patients attempting to quit smoking while taking CHANTIX in the postmarketing experience. When symptoms were reported, most were during CHANTIX treatment, but some were following discontinuation of CHANTIX therapy.
These events have occurred in patients with and without preexisting psychiatric disease. Patients with serious psychiatric illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder did not participate in the premarketing studies of CHANTIX.
The latest Chantix insert admits that symptoms may persist for up to 52 weeks; for me it's been over two years. This survey is from the People's Pharmacy...you do the math!
How helpful was Chantix for quitting smoking?
- 52.5% found it very helpful
- 9.5% found it somewhat helpful
- 19% found it not very helpful
- 19% said it didn’t work
- 54.5% said they experienced serious side effects while taking Chantix.
- 42.9% said they had to stop taking Chantix because of side effects.
- 59.1% said they would recommend Chantix to another smoker and 40.9% said they would not recommend this drug.
I have only taken the first two doses. I have read and researched. I have already had nausea, headaches, fogginess, and I feel like my worrying about all the rest of these awful side effects is making me have high anxiety. I think I have made the decision to not take it anymore. I wonder how long just two days will take to get out of my system. :(
I am glad they are finally putting ALL the information on Chantix in the insert...about time.
I watched the terrible things this did to my husband and our marriage.....I quit this past November with the step down program with the patch (Walmart brand) and an e cigarette for 3 weeks and stopped.....worked well so far.
Absolutely, I have been experiencing the side effects for 2 years now, I only used it for a week and it's destroyed my life.
No one tells you about the increase in blood sugar while taking Chantix. You stop smoking but can become a diabetic. I took it for 10 days. I wax doing a pre employment physical and my blood sugar was 1000. What? My usual was 117. I stopped taking it and stopped smoking too after 23 years. Be careful of this drug. Pfizer was sued for not putting this info on their inserts. If you feel shaky, have your blood sugar checked.
I took Chantix and have been smoke free for 10 years. I was already on an anti depressant so I expected some side effects... I just beared through it and know that if I had gone another route I probably would not have quit.
Are you still not smoking or was it a waste of time and money
