My mother currently takes 1 mg of warfarin 4 days a week, & 2 mg 3 days a week. Is she able to take activated charcoal? I have heard this can help people with renal problems & she currently does dialisys 3 days a week. She takes BP medicine & also a fluid pill. Any advice would be appreciated!! ## Hello, Holly! How is your mother doing? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed, but when taking a blood thinner, it is always best to double check with the patient's doctor to be sure. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Warfarin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. What other medications does she take? Can you please post back with more details?

Anyone concerned about the new legal cases and their allegations? Woke up the one morning with calf pain, no swelling, redness or warmth. I knew enough to know i could not explain the leg pain and was in the car for about 6 hours the previous day and decided to go to the ER. Diagnosed with a small DVT in my right lower leg. Was told to take Xarelto for 3 months. No restrictions otherwise. Back to normal activity when my leg felt better. I have been on it for 4 weeks now. Just this morning, saw various commercials in regards to the new legal cases and their allegations of the dangers of taking Xarelto... Im freaking out! Anyone else concerned? ## Hello, Debbie! I'm a 49yr old female and had a DVT that caused two large lateral PE. After genetic testing and many other tests they are happy to blame the Birth control pill I was taking along with a 5 hour car ride. I am 3months on Xarelto and my side effects are back pain, hip joint pain and my sleeping is off. I have a high tolerance for pain so I have been dealing with it. I was told if all goes well with the test by my 6 month I will be released from taking Xarelto. I hope my pulmonary doctor is telling me the truth as I find him to say things he knows I want to hear. ## I am very sorry about the problems you've experienced. Those can be typical side effects of Xarelto, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising....

I have been taking Sintrom for several years now and have to go for a control test every month. In November I am going to Goa for 5 months. Will I be able to get this control test there? If so, where do I go? I shall be staying in the Cavelossim / Mobor area of South Goa ## Hi jack, Because I am based in the US, I am unaware of the availability of Sintrom control tests in other countries. However the best advice I can offer at this moment would be to contact your current doctor (or whom ever administers the control test for you now) and see if they can refer you to another location in or around where you'll be staying. I can look up various hospitals and organizations in India and provide their contact details, but it will have little use if one is unfamiliar with their surrounding ...

I have been on Xarelto 5 days now, after being switched off Coumadin when I was in the hospital for blood clots in multiple arm veins. On the 3rd day of Xarelto, started to get tightness in my calf and a little bit in thigh. Slowly it is getting worse, as well as knee pain. The weird thing is it is not swelling and it comes and goes. Saw where this can be a side effect, but haven't seen or heard how long I can expect this to last, if it gets better, etc.? I'm supposed to be on it for 3 months, until I have thoracic outlet surgery. ## Hello, Lefty! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're experiencing. I was on Warfarin for 8 months then all of a sudden I was getting wild readings when my INR was checked. Had to go on heparin bridge shots which I had a really bad reaction to. My Dr. then put me on Pradaxa and I felt so much better, but after about 3 months I started losing gobs of hair. I am freaking out. Also have bouts of diarrhea. What is the definition of word CHAD for determining need for blood thinners in adults with atrial fibrillation? ## Hello, Davie! How are you? This test helps your doctor determine your risk of stroke due to a-fib, the higher the score, the greater the risk, thus the need for blood thinners to try to prevent a stroke, as defined by the NIH.
