Soon after my 86 year old mother takes Effient she gets rapid heartbeat and difficulty breathing. She is going to call her cardiologist tomorrow when they are open. Is this serious? Should she stop taking the drug immediately? ## Yes, those can be side effects of this medication, according to the U.S. FDA. She may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and blurry vision. How long has she been taking it? Side effects usually go away, after awhile, once your body gets used to a medication, but that could take about a month. ## She has been taking it about 3 weeks. Actually today for the 1st time she has not had any side effects. We are awaiting a call from her cardiologist. Most decisions concerning medicine are subjective. Even by professional doctors. Are these side effect serious...
Can I take Pamoxab for a chest/cold infection while taking Xarelto (a blood thinner)? The Pamoxab is 2 yrs old. ## Medications do begin to lose efficacy, once expired, so taking them could create the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, thus it would be best to see your doctor and obtain a new supply, if you need to take an antibiotic. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?
I am taking xarelto for 2.5 months now for afib, but not in afib all the time but taking beta blocker & rythm pills. Just went to er yesterday because of bloating or pressure under left rib since being on these pills. had few xrays of ribs , ultra sound & now cat scan, nothing. i know it can be stomach problems but er doctor thinks I don't need all these meds. the Chads score was 1 yesterday. Can I stop my meds for a day its Sunday, before I can reach my doctor on Monday. I think this medication is messing with my heart & making my bloating worst each time I take these.

I've been taking Xarelto and noticed when I switched to 20 mg once a day my bowels changed. Anyone had any bowel changes? ## I'm 41 and on no other medication and just completed a 3 month cycle of anticoagulants for provoked PEs after a long plane flight. Xarelto 15mg twice daily for first month, followed by Xarelto 20mg once daily for 1.5 months followed by Eliquis 5mg twice daily for two weeks. I should have switched from the Xarelto much earlier as I had horrible side effects including severe episodes of weakness (which sent me to ER three times), dizziness, tingling in hands and feet, anxiety, and GI issues m. It was definitely a bit of a poison to my system. One of the side effects of the 20mg was that it tore up my GI tract which included altered bowels. I've never had...

I have pinpoint red spots like a reaction of some sort. I'm on xarelto for clots found in my lungs n leg from cast n immobility... Can I take benadryl if on xarelto? ## Those could be due to bleeding, which Xarelto has been known to cause, as listed by the FDA, along with nausea, headache and easy bruising. Thus, before taking anything else to try to treat it, it would be best to have this checked out by your doctor to discover the cause. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Been on Xarelto (for atrial fib) for a year. I get occasional bright red bleeding after urination. Assuming it's due to Xarelto and my blood counts are OK with no other ill effects, should I stop Xarelto (could go to Warfarin which I used to take w/o side effects) or continue Xarelto w/ occasional smal...
I have been taking Eliquis for 3 weeks and have had 3 gout flare-ups. I am not drinking beer and have had limited red meat and seafood (3 of the more popular triggers). Is there a connection between Eliquis and gout flare-ups? ## Hello, Todd! How are you doing? I am sorry about the problem you're having. Yes, gout is a common side effect of this medication, according to FDA reports, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. Are you on any other medications? ## I started taking Indomethacin for the gout flare-ups and it worked good. I am not on any other medications. My doctor believes the gout flare-ups were due to rapid weight loss (down 25 pounds in 1.5 months).
Hi, I'm 25 years old and about a month ago I was diagnosed with DVT due to the usage of Ortho Evra. I'm on 20mg of Xarelto once a day, and I've noticed lots of improvement. At first I was a little dizzy, now the dizziness has gone. But now I'm having back pain and stomach pain. Is this normal or should I see muy doctor about it? ## Yes, those can be side effects of Xarelto, along with headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising, according to NIH reports. However, it is always a good idea to have such issues checked out to be sure. Are you on any other medications?
I am suffering from arterial thrombosis & was operated on (a 33 mm clot in the ankle portion of my left leg was removed) - since then I am being administered 5 mg Acitrom & PT INR is conducted every two weeks for adjusting the dosage. During my most recent menstrual cycle there has been heavy bleeding with clots for more than a week. What are the short-term & long-term implications of using Acitrom, and are there any better options available worldwide? ## Heavier bleeding can be a normal side effect of this medication, since it is a blood thinner that is used to prevent clots, according to the U.S. FDA. Other side effects may possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and easy bruising. All such medications risk causing very similar side effects, so you should take the ...

In September 2015 and in June 2016 I developed a blot clot in a superficial vein in my right quadricep. Both resolved themselves. Because I was scheduled to fly my vascular surgeon sent me to a benign hematologist who proposed I take 2.5 mg of the drug two hours before a flight and a second dose twelve hours after the first. I followed the doctor's directions and was fine. I recently consulted once more with the doctor as I am scheduled to travel to Asia (a 15 hour flight) and will have several inter-city flights before returning back home. Since I will be away for two weeks and have three inter-city flights (one approximately every three days) the doctor suggested I take 2.5 mg twice a day for the duration of the trip. I'm a bit nervous about going on the drug for two weeks as ...
Am 78 and had 2 stents put in 6-1/2 years ago. Taking Plavix 75 mg and aspirin 81 mg. Gradually have seen darkening of skin on the ankles. /seems micro hemorrhaging under the skin. Does any one know if the could be a side effect of taking these drug? ## Yes, it certainly could be due to blood thinning that these medications are causing, according to NIH reports, they can also cause easy bruising as a side effect. Why are you taking both, since they essentially do that same thing, though? Are you on any other medications? Did your doctor instruct you to take both?
I've just started taking Eliquis, 5mg x 2 day for nonvalvular Afib. I'm experiencing dizziness & lightheadness. I have suffered from vertigo for years from heading loss & age (70 yrs old). I guess my question is will the dizziness go away as my body adjusts to this new medication? ## I had the same problem. Felt like I was going to pass out. Two different effects at the same time. I was on a heart monitor at the time. The drug caused tachycardia, it was recorded. The second effect is the lightheadedness. Felt like I had a couple shots of whiskey. I do not drink. Have been off Eliquis for two weeks. The tachycardia has gone away. The lightheadedness has reduced but is still present. Tough drug to live with. I am back on aspirin. 81 mg twice per week. ## Interestingly enou...
I started eliquis 5 days ago and feel dizzy every day- does it eventually go away? ## Hello, Mollie! How are you? Yes, it is usually a transient side effects that goes away with time, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you so much for your response, which I find encouraging - I will be so relieved when the dizziness goes away! ## I was placed on Apixaban for AFib after being on Apirin for 10 years. Since then I have suffered dizziness, headache and sickness. I consulted my Doctor and he suggested that I stop taking Apixaban and return to Asirin that had served me well for so long. I am awaiting the outcome. These tablets just didn't work for me.
I have been taking Eliquis for a year now. Major hair loss. I am 65. Female. You can see my scalp all over. I am so self conscious I am embarrassed to even go to church. I need to take some kind of blood thinner for irregular heartbeat. Can't tolerate aspirin. I wonder if lower dosage would make a difference. I take 5mg twice a day. ## Hello, Marion! How are you doing? I am so sorry about what you're experiencing, I have to say that I would be just as embarrassed. Perhaps you could wear a hat, or bonnet to church, for now? As to a remedy for the situation, the hair loss is usually reversible, once you stop taking the medication, according to the NIH, so you may want to speak to your doctor about trying a different blood thinner. Are you on any other medications? ## I just switch...
Can you please advise me? My mother is 83 years old, she is taking Warfarin for a few years, she is extremely careful with this medication, she also suffers from Arthritis on her knee and wrists. Can you please advise me of a painkiller that she could take? Also I think she could benefit of taking a vitamin or a tonic. Any advise would be appreciated. ## glen - Who on earth are you asking to advise you about your mom's health needs? You're asking medical questions, some about serious medical issues. If she's taking Warfarin (a blood thinner), I'm assuming she has or has had problems with blood clots. Her arthritis might be helped by OTC anti-inflammatories but she may be helped far more by prescription medications in this category (I know I was) that she can only get fro...
