The doctor recently took me off metoprolol because it was discovered that I have asthma. She replaced it with diltiazwm which caused my heart rate to increase to 133 and upped my blood pressure. Now I'm back on the metoprolol until I see my doctor again. Is there another medication for high blood pressure that you could recommend to replace metoprolol? I was also prescribed ventolin for the asthma. ## Hi, Lin! How long did you take the Diltiazem? Your blood pressure and heart rate normally would elevate for a few days, when you first switch from one medication to another. The 133 is rather high, but did you call your doctor about it. yet? Since the beta blockers can cause trouble with asthma, you are going to have to switch to something else, however, only your doctor can help you fi...

Was prescribed S. Numlo 0.25 and Telma 40 when B.P was 150/100 in 2010 by DR. A. Stopped medication after 6 months as B.P. around 130/85. In June 2013 was again diagnosed with High B.P 160/100 to 150 /90 and prescibed tab Seloken XL 25 mg by Dr. B. Should i change to Seloken or should i continue with earlier tablets. ## Hi, Jack! How are you? The first thing you need to know is that hypertension is a continuous condition that you will always have to manage. It isn't cured once medications lower it, so you can't just stop taking them. You may hit a point where you can lower the dosages, or stop one medication, but if you stop all of them entirely, you will always run the risk of it becoming elevated again. And to which medication you should take, you should follow your doctor...

I have been taking metoprol for about 9 months. Ever since I started on this drug my toes at night tingle, feel numb, and when I get up to use the bathroom, my toes look blueish purple. I told the cardiologist, and he said, I could have the choice of tingly, blue toes, or have the pvc's. I am on 25 mg, twice per day. ## Hi, Carrol! Sorry about the problem that you're having. Issues like that are typical of beta blocker medications. However, I really don't like when doctors say that type of thing to people, it makes it seem like this is the only medication you can try to treat your PVCs and that is not true. While there is a chance that another one may cause the same thing, there is also a chance that it won't, so they are usually worth trying, unless there is some specif...

I'm on the second day of being off of Lisinopril after being on it for two weeks with really bad side effects. Chills. Itching, stomach pains, headache. My question is how long has the side effects lasted for everyone? Thanks, RB ## HI, Roddy! Sorry about the side effects you suffered. If you were only on it for 2 weeks, it shouldn't take too long for them to wear off, maybe a week or so, but it can vary from person to person and you should double check with your doctor. Have you already consulted your doctor to switch to a different medication? It isn't safe to just abruptly stop a medication like this, if you were taking it for high blood pressure or a cardiac condition. ## Hello Thanks for your reply! I'm on day 5 of being off of it. I'm going to try nature method...

Can Metoprolol cause coughing as a known side effect? I am advised to use Metoprolol for my blood pressure, but now I am suffering from asthmatic issues. ## Hi, Moideen! How are you? Metoprolol is a beta blocker that's used to treat hypertension and yes, it can cause those types of side effects in some people that take it, though it doesn't happen very often. Hi, I used to take 100 daily but felt that it was not giving me enough coverage so I started taking 50 in the morning and 100 at night. It was working very well as pressure is well controlled and I have no side effects. I have been on tgis dosage for over 3 years. Is this a dangerous dose as I was told that over 100 per day is not advisable. I'm just worried that if I go back to the 100 per day, my pressure will go up again ## HI, Leandra! How are you? What's the connection between metoprolol tartrate and depression? I'm on 50mg tablets twice a day and by the end of the day I'm ready to cry for no reason. I used to take 12.5mg but wasn't doing its job of lowering my BP. So the doc put me on a higher dosage. ## Yes, it has been known to cause depression in 2 to 5% of the people that took it during clinical trials. Learn more Metoprolol details here. Have you discussed it with your doctor? It's most likely just not the right medication for you to take and you'll need to try something else. ## Thanks for your reply back. I appreciate that. No I haven't discussed it with my endocrinologist yet but I will as soon as I get an appointment with him which I don't know when. By the way are you a doctor?
