The doctor I went to for a TKA medical clearance prescribed the lowest dose for a BP problem I didn't know I had. Pain probably cause a lot of stress and I was more than 20 pounds heaver back then, which was about 4 months ago. The drug certainly did work to bring about a normal BP and another benefit is that heart rate is low like a champion athlete. Despite how well it works I wonder if I really need to keep taking this drug--e.g., maybe just take an aspirin a day. My feeling is that the drug has lowered my metabolism by about 500 calories a day so it's a good thing I've been using Lose It! keep track of calories. ## Hello, Mac! How are you doing? Since taking this pill for high blood pressure for 6 months now my neck is very red & blotchey like sun burn & i was wandering if I should switch to another pill? ## Hi Carl, It sounds as if you may be having an allergic reaction to this medication, unless you are taking other medications that might be the culprit? How long have you been dealing with this? If it persists for longer than a few days, I definitely recommend calling your doctor and asking him if he knows what might be the cause. I have read that flushing (warmth, redness, or tingling under your skin) is a "less serious" side effect of the brand name Lotrel; which contains amlodipine besylate and benazepril hydrochloride. Therefore, it may just be a side effect of your medication. You can learn more about thi...

Hello! I was taking 5 mg. bystolic for 1 yr. until I experienced terrible side effects that I make me so disable to do anything and has been taken to the ER within 2 months period of time. My primary physician told me to stop taking it two months ago and try an alternative way of stabilizing my bp (as a trial and error first!) instead by enrolling at Zacharias Ganey Health Institute for a 10 week Course this summer.
