UpdatedI started taking Propanolol for PVC's 2 weeks ago. 10mg once a day. That made me dizzy so i cut it up into two doses. 5 mg twice a day. That seemed to work well. I did have a few side effects for about 7 days....extremely cold hands, shortness of breath, dizziness but then I felt great for about 3 days. Now it is horrible. I started feeling REALLY tired. Can't hold my eyes open tired. Can't seem to get woke up of the mornings and now for the last 2 nights I have been so short of breath it is waking me up. Like I will fall asleep and right after I doze off, I wake up by gasping for air. I have never had this problem before and it is worrying me. I have had several Ekg's in the last 10 years and all have been normal. Last one I had was 10 months ago. Someone suggested Ader...
I am taking Amlidopine and Bisoprolol for hypertension. I developed a rash on both ankles and a psoriasis like rash on my bottom. It is getting better after stopping bisoprolol for a week, but blood pressure is rising. what alternatives do I have? ## Hello, Aubrie! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're having. There are many other options available for treating high blood pressure, including some in the same drug class, which as listed by the FDA is beta blockers, such as Metoprolol, Propranolol, Atenolol Nebivolol. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, increased urination and hypotension. Have you discussed the problem with your doctor? They should be able to prescribe an alternative to replace it. ## I have t...
I had an episode of angina and went to the ER. Assessment found blockage in coronary arteries, but no apparent damage to heart muscle. I underwent a double bypass. Meds upon discharge were Metoprolol 12.5 b.i.d., Lipitor 40 mg/day, andaspirin 81 mg/day. I'm 62 y.o and have no other health conditions or medications. While Metoprolol reduced my BP to an average of about 115/75, a side-effect of it was complete erectile dysfunction, little feeling in my penis. and decrease in libido. No other side effects. About 1 1/2 months later I went to the cardiologist, and he switched me to Bystolic 2.5 mg/day, which is equivalent to about 1/2 the dose of Metoprolol that I was taking. It also kept my BP at about 114/75. Within about 2 weeks, I was able to achieve about 3/4 erection, and somewhat ...
Updated in BystolicI have been taking this medication for over 12 years my doc has been wanting me off this medication say it cause kidney problems etc. wants me in lisinopril 10mg. I'm afraid of weight Gain & other side effects. The last 6 months I have had some vertigo & migraine. They feel that triam/htz is causing this. Lisinopril seems to have same side effects. Very confused ## Hello, Lane! How are you? Yes, Triam/HTZ is a combined diuretic, which works by removing fluid from the body, so it can be very taxing on the kidneys and they likely do need a break from it, after this many years. However, the other side effects risks aren't really any different between it and the Lisinopril. Typical ones, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and h...

(Diet) would it be safe to take losartan and liposzen i am taking 1/2 of 24 mg of losartan. ## Hi wanda, From what I could gather, there aren't any drug interactions to be found between Losartan and Lipozene (I'm assuming you meant to say?). However this is because Lipozene (Amorphophallus konjac) is an OTC dietary supplement; a category that isn't generally accounted for when it comes to reputable information on potential interactions with pharmaceutical drugs. For that reason I'd encourage you to contact your doctor first and foremost before taking anything that he/she hasn't prescribed or recommended. In many cases these types of situations turn out to be fine and it's just a matter of getting your Dr's. approval to ensure safety. I hope this helps!
Diovan only 2 months after expiration date. Is it safe to take? Next appointment with doctor is for next month. Please let me know, I will appreciate it. ## Hello, Gloria! How are you? This medication doesn't get dangerous, once it's expired, but it does start to lose effectiveness and may not work as well as it did, when it was new. It would be best to just obtain a new supply, unless your doctor okays you taking the expired one. However, this isn't a medication that requires a doctor's appointment, so if you call, they should be able to phone or fax a prescription for you to your pharmacy to get you through, until your appointment. The FDA classifies this medication as being an ARB that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. ...
Guanfacine Hydrochloride, 2mg. How much does the total pill weigh? I'm trying to figure out precisely what percentage of it is guanfacine. ## @Ryan, It sounds to me like you may have to invest in a scale in order to best determine the weight. All of the drug monographs I've seen for this particular pill made by Actavis don't really go into much detail other than the size (8mm), shape (round), color (orange), and imprint (WATSON 453). However, if it's of any help, here is the list of inactive ingredients it contains outside of Guanfacine: Anhydrous lactose + D&C Yellow No. 10 + FD&C Red No. 40 + Povidone K29/32 + Stearic acid + Microcrystalline cellulose + Aluminium oxide Perhaps you could also try contacting Actavis directly for more specific details regarding th...
Is this drug going to be discontinued? ## Hello, Carma! How are you? Not that I'm aware of and several searches haven't turned up anything say that it is going to be discontinued. Did you someone tell you that it was? This medication is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, dehydration, increased urination and hypotension. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
Before about one month, one doctor physician advised me to take TELLZY -20 (Telmisartan) when he observed my BP 140/90, although i was advised by some other doctors not to take any medicine even if it goes up to 150/90. I am taking the medicine now since one month now and it was observed that the BP is normal in accordance with the normal agreed range. I want to get rid of the medicine and revive my usual morning walks. My age is 63. While i am taking the medicine, i feel uneasiness in my neck & head sometimes when i abruptly stand up and it was not previously so before the medication. Before the medication i used to monitor my BP daily twice by OMRON aparatus (automatic) at my residence and it was never above 150/90, and not less than 117/74. The average & usual BP accordingly ...
My 21 year old son, who goes to the gym 4 times a week, watches everything he puts into his mouth, and who has never had high blood pressure, just started Zestril today. A week ago he took his bp at Publix and it was extremely high, 160/97, pulse 115. Has anyone experienced this with their healthy young adult? ## Hello, JJReine! How are you and your son? One high reading wouldn't not be enough to cause a doctor to prescribe such a medication. It would have also had to have been high in other readings. What were the numbers when he checked it? If it was high and his doctor has prescribed this, there is no reason to be upset. High blood pressure can be caused by various things, such as high salt intake, even if he eats healthy low fat foods, or heredity. Getting it under control now i...
What medication is comparable to losartan hctz 100 25 mg at a much cheaper price? ## Hello, Rusty! How are you? You might want to ask your pharmacy if the price is any better if they are prescribed separately, rather than as one medication. You could also ask them the prices on others, such as the generic for Benicar HCT. This mediation is listed by the FDA as being most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dehydration, increased urination and hypotension. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? They may know what else is cheaper in your area.
I have been taking Benicar 20mg for high blood pressure and it was working in combination with two other meds. My drug plan had my doctor change it to Diovan 160mg. Does the Diovan need to be such a large dose compared to the Benicar? Both are angiotensin II receptor meds so do they work the same way? ## Hi Forrest, Even though both of these medications are angiotensin II receptor antagonists and both work by blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in many tissues, they still have completely different chemical structures by which the drugs themselves are synthetically constructed. It's really just this factor along with any other inactive ingredients (binders and fillers) that are put in each tablet, which can determine how each drug is metabolized by your body. I...
I've been on Toprol XL 50mg for a little over one year. Since then I have gained 20lbs and have notice an overall increase in my appetite. Has anyone else had this reaction? ## ABSOLUTELY! Started taking this drug in the 230s. Shot up to the 250s. Rode my bicycle 1,000+ miles during the summer to get back to the 240s. Now pushing 260 as I am not riding in the winter. Doctor does not believe Toprol is the problem. WRONG-O. Lokking for a new doctor! ## I started taking topprol xl 100mg about 6 mos. ago and have noticed a weight gain also. I quit smoking yr. ago and went to exercise classes and they said my weight would metabolize in 6 mos. Wrong, taking toprol has made me gain more weight and I'm so hungry all the time. I don't know what to do. I see my Doc. in Nov. and I wond...
can I substitute metroprol tar 25 for toprolol xl until I can get it refilled? ## Hello, Noo! How are you? From what you've listed one is time released and one isn't, so they aren't going to work the same. You may need a dosage adjustment. What dosage is the Toprol XL? Have you consulted your doctor? Generally, it's always best to pick up a refill several days ahead of time, to ensure that you don't run out. Metoprolol is classified by the FDA as a beta blocker, it is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain and hypotension.
Has anyone had a hign ANA test result after taking atenolol? ## Since I started taking Atenolol I have had shortness of breath. My doctor tells me Atenolol would not cause this. Should I seek another opinion. ## Atenolol is a beta blocker that's most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. And yes, it can cause shortness of breath in some people that take it. What happened with this Steve? Did you end up changing medications, switching doctors, or perhaps both? Learn more Atenolol details here. And yes, it has also been known to foul up some blood tests. Are there any other questions or comments? ## I had the same experience and changed docs. the new one did a heart cath and said it must be the pill and took me off and I was fine. Then I had to tak...
My husband has been taking carb/levo 25/250 and his doctor has increased his pills to 6 a day. His burry vision has increased and blood pressure drops, is this too much medicine? ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? According to the NIH and FDA, it is normal for side effects to recur or worsen, when someone's medication dosage is raised. He may also experience nausea, confusion, hallucinations and painful urination. And this medication can be used in amounts up to 8 tablets a day, so he is still under the maximum daily dosage. Has there been any improvement, yet? Has his doctor been consulted about the issue? ## Does apo levocarb cause you to pass gas a lot? ## It could, most medications can cause that. However, it could also be due to something the person is eating. Thus, it is advisable...
