I am taking Verapamil ER 240 mg tablets, Hygroton 25 mg tablets, and Losartan 25mg tablets. My doctor wants me to take these bulky Potassium CL 20 meq ER tablets once a day. Potassium tabs are too big for me take. Will the pills dissolve in water? Any suggestions. Thanks. ## Hello, Jackie! How are you? No, you cannot dissolve them, cut them, crush them or break them. Potassium is very hard on the gastro-intestinal system, so they have to be slow released and specially coated to protect you. The FDA lists stomach irritation and nausea as being its most common side effect, so it should be taken with food. The reason you most likely have to take it is due to the Hygroton, it is a diuretic that's used to remove excess fluid from your body to help treat high blood pressure and certain ot...

I take amlodipine for high pressure in my esophagus. They said I needed a calcium channel blocker. I haven't even been on this med for a month and my BP has gone up since taking it. Would it hurt to stop it? ## Hello, Dee! How are you? Yes, it could be dangerous to stop abruptly, as reported by the FDA, a sudden withdrawal could cause rebound symptoms that may include dangerously elevated blood pressure and heart rate. Thus, it would be best to see your doctor first, as they should be able to prescribe an alternative medication. How high is your blood pressure? Are you on any other medications?

Any difference? My pharmacy wasn't able to give me my usual green Losartan. Should I be concerned? ## Hello, Alan! How are you? This tablet is manufactured by Sandoz Pharmaceuticals and they do list it as containing 25mgs of Losartan. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. It is normal for pharmacies to switch which generic they carry, depending on who was offering the cheapest price to their supplier, when they needed to restock their supply. Is there anything else I can help with? ## thank you. just want to make sure that I got the right meds. I appreciate it.

I am having sensitivity (pain)in my right breast area since taking this drug for one month i take it every other morning also developed a cough ## I am also on losarton and now I have this hacking cough. But not to worry my doctor just emailed me that there is no chance that this medicine could cause my cough and if I wanted to go off it that would be fine and let her know how it turns out. It is always nice when you find that your doctor would rather be right than listening to her patient and offering harmful advice. I really have no choice but to go off the medicine just so I can stop the hacking, it has gotten so bad I am not sleeping. Good luck. ## Losartan can definitely cause that cough, it does happen to quite a few people that take it and that side effect will not wear off, so i...

Are guanfacine hcl and guanfacine the same? Do they react the same in the body? Do they last/work for the same amount of time? My son has been taking guanfacine HCl for over a year for his ADHD and anxiety. We visited new pharmacy and the pills look different and the label reads guanfacine. The pharmacist has no idea what guanfacine HCl is, and says the correct medication is guanfacine. ## Hello, LeanneD! How are you? Yes, they are the same. The Hydrochloride just designates the specific chemical salt that the medication is derived from, so they are all Guanfacine Hydrochloride, it's just not listed on this latest prescription. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation and abdominal pain. Is there anythi...

since i started taking this medication i find it very difficult to pass urine...is this normal?? ## Looks like this medication isn't manufactured in the US, but I was able to find the active ingredient to be Bisoprolol. Side effects for this drug are listed below (I believe one or more of these side effects can indirectly make it difficult to urinate): Overdose of Bisoprolol leads to fatigue, hypotension, low blood sugar, bronchospasms and bradycardia. Bronchospasms and low blood sugar because at high doses drug can be an antagonist for 2 adrenergic receptors located in lung and in liver. Bronchspasm due to blockage in lungs of 2 receptor and low blood sugar because of decreased stimulation of glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis in the liver via 2 receptor.
