It works by reducing the cough reflex in the lungs and air passages. It is taken by mouth. Use is not recommended in those under the age of ten. Effects generally begin within 20 minutes and last up to eight hours. Side effects include sleepiness, dizziness, headache, upset stomach, skin rash, hallucinations, and allergic reactions. I found oval yellow pills in my sons room and need help finding out what they are. They're labeled PA 46 on the pills, that's all I have to go on. We actually have a bottle sitting around here, somewhere, from the last time my husband had bronchitis, and started developing pneumonia. It is used to suppress cough. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, numb mouth, and numb throat. Is there anything else I can help with?

Why would I be prescribed Lorazepam with Tessalon perels and Amoxicillin for acute bronchitis and an upper respiratory infection? ## Hello, Curtis! How are you? The pearls are used to suppress cough and the Amoxicillin is an antibiotic. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. I am not sure, however, on the Lorazepam. Did you doctor explain?

Can I take NY quil when taking benzonatate 100 MG tid? ## @Nellie, According to The University of Maryland's drug interaction checker there aren't any discrepancies listed between Nyquil and Benzonatate. Based on that, I'd suspect that it should be fine to take the two together; especially since Benzonatate is non-narcotic. Your thread title also asks "what is benzonatate" - Benzonatate is described as an oral cough suppressant that's not prone to abuse. It's effects reportedly last anywhere from 6 to 8 hours. I have been taking Benzonatate 100 MG for my cough and I don't know if that is going to show up on my mouth swab drug test as something like xanax. Does xanax and Benzonatate show up on mouth swab tests? ## I took some 2 days ago and also took a couple of tabs last night. From what I've found, these are 200mg Benzonatate gels, it is distantly related to local anesthetics and is used as a cough suppressant. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness and dysphagia. And yes, it is very dangerous for children and has contributed to several overdose deaths. I'm so very glad he didn't eat them. Is there anything else I can help with?
