In about 1 to 2 hours after taking this drug I get the chills and shakes and all my joints ache. I also get very queasy. I have been fighting this for 5 days now. Can you help me? Thanks. ## I have 5 day dose of the following antibiotic: SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 TAB It was used previously on: 3/3/10 For whatever reason I did not finish this Rx and have #10 pills left. My question is... What is the shelf life of this antibiotic??? I believe I am beginning a UTI and would like to take these and push the water and cranberry juice to get on and over this infection. I have 3 tablets of Sulfa/Meth TMP DS. I think these were prescribed to me for a bladder infection. I have symptoms of it again. I was prescribed Bactrim because of an upcoming biopsy. Funny thing, my legs have been hurting for years, hard to even sit sometimes, and I walk with a limp. After a week on Bactrim these symptoms went away. I sure would like to know why. Three days after finishing the prescription the pain came back. ## That is very unusual, since it is a sulfur based antibiotic, it's most often known to cause the exact opposite and cause pain in people that are sensitive or allergic to it. Does smz/tmp ds 800-160 come in a smaller pill? my 92 year old mom take one tab daily as a preventative because she self caths due to inability to urinate. But she is starting to have trouble getting that pill down. Looking for a smaller pill that will be easier for her to swallow. ## I'm afraid all the ones I've seen are about the same size. However, it is not a time released tablet, so you could just cut or break them in half for her to make them easier to swallow. Thus, she could just swallow two halves, or 3 thirds, whatever size makes it easier for her to swallow. You can learn more Bactrim details here. I was taking cephalexin500 wasn't the right antibiotic for me so Dr. Gave me sulfatrimeth ds. 800 is it okay to switch from one antibiotic that isn't working to another antibiotic in the same day ## As long as you have your doctor's clearance to do so, there are no other real problems with it. I am wondering what is the best antibiotic to fight MRSA or a Staph infection? I went to the hospital last night because I had a spot that started out as an ingrown hair and has become repulsive. My son is 12 months old and was prescribed Sulfameth Trimeth 5ml twice daily. Can this keep him awake? He's been having stomach cramps which I have been treating with greek yogurt to add back the good bacteria. However, he seems wide awake when he should be exhausted and ready for sleep. I feel like i constantly need to yawn, as if i am not getting enough air with my normal breaths. This has been going on after the 4th pill, although I am not sure if it is related to Baxtrim. I recently quit smoking so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. Having to take deep breaths and force myself to yawn is very uncomfortable. ## It's difficult to say, but I really wouldn't be surprised if it is due to the Bactrim, since it is a sulfa based antibiotic and is well known to cause very odd side effects in some people that take it. I have an lung/chest infection and 18 tablets of sulfameth/trimeth 800/160 800-160 is this a sufficient supply to begin to use this drug. ## Did you end up taking them? That would be enough to almost do a complete course, which would usually be 2 a day for 10 days, so 20 tablets, but you shouldn't take them unless a doctor has told you to and the presence of an infection has been confirmed. Is this the right antibiotic given to me? ## Hi Marie, Based on my research, Bactrim DS is used for treating cellulitis infection. If I can recommend anything else to help the healing process, it would be to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and look into supplements that will boost your immune system. A good anti inflammatory supplement is Echinacea Goldenseal. Also, Tea Tree and Lavender essential oils are very good for skin related infections because they are anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. If you decide to try any of my suggestions, make sure you do plenty of your own research! I hope this helps!
