Six months ago I had the staph infection MERSA. Three lesions were surgically treated and I was on bactrim for three weeks.The results were successful. One week ago I indicated to my internist,who was completely aware of the prior condition and treatment, that I had a supect growth on my rear. Upon examination he doubted that the infection was a repeat , did not suggest surgery but did prescribe ciprofloxacin 500 mg for a period of 10 days. In another city four days latter I beleived that that the growth had increased. Went to a large city hospital's emergency room were the senior specialist recommended lancing.That was done and I left with a perscription for sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/600 to be taken over ten days. I took bactrim generic to treat a vaginal labia cyst in late Oct, marsupialization surgery. The heavy duty bactrim seemingly got rid of the infection in that spot. That said, I suffered, for five weeks from acid poo and skin irritation down there, colitis syptoms like eat and then toilet time diarhea for five weeks. Plus, I got a painful diaper rash, and two yeast infections. Also, every time I shaved, even with a premium new razor - I got cuts on my thighs that filled with small amounts of pus. I added a daily vitamin, calcium and a probiotic to my diet which stopped the acid ass and #2 diarrhea. Ugh! 40 days since the cyst, I got another bad infection. Deep in left butt cheek. if i have sulfamethtrimeth left over from a couple of months ago can i useit again ## There are actually 2 problems with trying to do so. The first is that this is an antibiotic, so if this is just a leftover amount from treating a prior infection, then there may not be enough of it to finish a full course of treatment and eradicate the infection. Most antibiotic suspensions are only good for a week to 10 days, after they've been mixed and do not retain their effectiveness after that time period. I am taking Sulfamethoxazole-TMP and my doc has given me 2 urine tests to make sure no other drugs are interacting with the Sulf. I have not smoked pot in over 18 years, I live alone and I failed both times. Will the Sulfamethoxazole-TMP give a false positive for marijuana?

I have a cut on my leg and my Dr gave me Bactrim Ds for Cellulitis infection. Is this the correct med for treating CELLULITIS? ## Hi Marie, Most of the time, Cellulitis treatment involves antibiotics taken by mouth and is later followed-up by your doctor. You could also be given painkillers if necessary. Bactrim is a pretty serious antibiotic, so I think it would be vital to use it over other options when the situation absolutely calls for it. About two weeks ago I thought I got bitten by mosquito's in the back of my knee but as the days past the bites started to itch like crazy and is now they are the size of a dime, swollen and scabbed over but still itch, I also have noticed that I have tinnier bites in different places on my body. What is a good substitute drug for Bactrim ## What type of infection is being treated? Bactrim contains Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim and it is available under several name brands and as a generic. Learn more Bactrim details here. Is Suxprim the same as Bacrim? ## is suxprim the same as bactrim the antibiotic ## Noemi Colao, I would suggest consulting an MD regarding being allergic to Penicillin while taking Suxprim. Research I have gathered shows that Suxprim and Bactrim are one in the same pill. I believe the difference is that Suxprim is only available in Mexico. Is there any difference between sulfameth/tmp ds tab and Sulfameth Tmp ss Tab? If so what are they What does the extention ds versus ss mean anyway? ## The DS stands for double strength, because it has double the amount of the active ingredients as was in the original formula. However, the only thing I am aware of concerning prescriptions that use SS is a sliding scale, meaning the dosage is half or less than the original, so I am not sure if that's what this means, or not. I was put on flucillin & calvepen today for an infection in my leg i've only taken 3 of each and am feeling extreamly dizzy even when lying down is this normal with eather of these antibiotics? Can I use the grape suspension internally? I think I have a UTI. I know I have one or it may be bacterial infection. ## Just asking ## The flavored suspensions are generally intended to be taken internally, by drinking/swallowing them. They are made for children, or people that have trouble swallowing pills. MY NIECE WAS PRESCRIBED THIS SMZ DS 800/160 AND WITHIN A DAY STARTED A MANIC LIKE BEHAVIOR. THIS BECAME WORSE AND AFTER THE 10 DAYS SHE WAS IN A ACUTE PSYCHOSIS. THE DOCTORS ARE TELLING THIS WOULD NOT BE FROM THE MEDICATION. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND THIS IS NOT TRUE! Can't pee! Need to, want to, but nothing is forthcoming. So very thirsty, lots of water going in, but just a quick tinkle coming out. I was wondering if it is OK to take Clorazepam and Vactrim DS at the same time or can they have a reaction? ## I meant Bactrim not vactrim ## And I'm assuming you meant Lorazepam, the active ingredient in Ativan as the other medication you're asking about? Bactrim - i have a 6mnth old child, has been drinking bactrim for 5mnths now and developed rush that looks like eczima. i'm hiv positive and still breastfeeding and i'm giving him NVP also. should i carry on with the batrim or should i stop? ## The rash may be a sign that he is developing a sensitivity or allergy to the medication, so it could be dangerous to continue to give it to him. Can a small amt of alcohol be taken? ## It isn't advisable, alcohol can make the side effects of the medication worse, such as the nausea and dizziness, plus it can further irritate the bladder and urinary tract.
