Dicorate contains the active ingredient Divalproex Sodium, better known as Valproate Semisodium, its main use is to treat the manic episodes of Bipolar Disorder, though it has been shown eff...
I was forced to take it while in a psychiatric hospital and went from being talkative to being completely silent and suffering from a complete inability to feel. has inflammation of the facial trigeminal nerve. is there medicine for this ## Hi clif, To my knowledge there are medications for nerve pain. However, I'm not sure whether or not they are specifically geared towards this particular facial condition. From what I've seen, Gabapentin or Lyrica are usually the general medications recommended by doctors for these types of conditions. Some people also suggest supplementing with a Vitamin B -Complex, as well as Turmeric, and Omega 3 fatty acids (DHA) for increased efficacy. You can learn more about each drug on the page for Gabapentin Details and Lyrica Details I hope this helps! ## my doctot put me on gapatin 800 mg 5mg of valium and tomapax it helps so much
Hi I have been on Gabapentin for a month. The highest dose I could tolerate is 900mg a day. The problem is the drug has had no effect on my pain. I have tried to go up in dosage to possible get some pain relief, but I am retaining fluid at higher doses and I have Congestive Heart Failure, so this is a no-no. So..... The pain clinic wants to switch me to Topamax. Any experience or comments. Thanks! ## Hi Katia, Unfortunately, there have been quite a few of side effects reported by Topamax users. Here is a link to a thread you may consider posting in if you'd like to learn more about possible adverse reactions: Discuss/Topamax-caused-problems-159316.htm Just keep in mind that not everyone experiences side effects, since everyone's body chemistry is different. I want to know the combined therapeutic advantages of taking gabapentin with methylcobalamin (i.e., synergistic effects and also whether there's any drug to drug interaction between these two substances)? ## Hello, Nagarjuna! How are you? Methylcobalamin is actually not a drug. It is just a form of vitamin B12 often used in these combination medications, because it is believed to support nerve health. However, since it is just a nutritional supplement, there are no synergistic effects and no known interactions. The only actual drug involved here is the Gabapentin, which is an anticonvulsant that's been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. It may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes.

Prescribed as a added medication for anxiety/depression. If I feel it's giving me side effects would it be suggested to taper off 100mg per a nightly dose of 1000mg? Been taking this for 5 years. ## That's actually a very high dose and you've been taking it for a very long time, thus a 100mg reduction might be too much. Learn more Gabapentin details here. What types of side effects is it causing? It would be odd to experience them after such a long period of time. Have you consulted your doctor? They'd be best able to guide you on a safe tapering schedule. Since this is an anticonvulsant, tapering down too fast could put you at risk of seizures, so it's not safe to try to play with it on your own.
I know I am not suppose to drink alcohol while on this medication but I have a party to go to. Is it ok to stop taking the med a day before and pick back up the day after the party? ## Drinking alcohol, while taking this medication can cause an increase of side effects, so you may feel more nauseous, dizzy and drowsy than usual. Learn more Neurontin details here. And people that take it for mood disorders or seizures can basically defeat the purpose of Neurontin, since the alcohol puts them at risk. Thus, it is best not to imbibe while taking it and not to skip doses of your medication, but if you feel you must, check with your doctor first regarding the safety and make sure that you won't be driving or operating any heavy machinery, while under the influence. Are there any other qu...

I haven't been taking topiramate for very long and finally decided to read the side effects today. It says it causes problems with cognition and can cause drowsiness, but I feel a ton more alert and clear headed than I have in a while. I have suffered from depression for years, and even the usual daily blues have gone away. I find my self having more energy and needing less sleep. The only thing I have noticed so far that goes along with side effects that others experience is that soda tastes HORRIBLE. Are the things I'm experiencing temporary and has anyone else had these side effects? (Prescribed for migraines, at 25 mg, stepping up to 50 at the end of the week, then 100 by the end of the next week) ## Not everyone experiences all of the side effects of any given medication. T...

What are the medications used for trigeminal neuralgia? which is the most effective? which is the safest? which is the most dangerous? What are the maximum dosages? ## The anti-seizure drugs gabapentin and carbamazepine are most commonly prescribed. They can be effective, but they also have a sedating, dulling effect, and less commonly more serious side effects. Some people have found topical ketamine to be effective; in low, topical doses it is probably fairly safe, but topical ketamine has not been in clinical trials. There are some anecdotal reports of the skin product Gallixa being highly effective with no side effects. ## Safety and efficacy are actually purely relative, since not every medication affects every person that takes it in the same way. What works for one person may not...
I only took for two weeks and have lost 60% of my hair. I am a woman, and only 43, and scared to death that it will completely fall out, even though I have stopped taking it. Does anyone have any answers to how long this will continue and or suggestions on what helps with hair regrowth from taking nuerontin. Best, J ## At your age, it is actually difficult to say whether or not the hair loss is solely due to the Neurontin. Women in their 40's typically also enter perimenopause and the hormonal imbalance can also cause hair loss or hair thinning. That could explain why you experienced such great hair loss, after being on the medication for such a short period of time. Neurontin may not actually be the cause. Have you consulted your doctor? Have you been experiencing worsening PMS sym...

Is this medication ever administered in intravenous dosage forms? ## From what I've read, Gabapentin appears to be available in the following dosage forms: a capsule, a tablet, an extended-release (long-acting) tablet, and an oral solution (liquid) to take by mouth. IV methods are usually pertaining to those who recreationally abuse the medication. So I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing anything other than what your doctor or health-care provider suggests, in that regard. The dosing instructions also state that you should swallow the extended-release tablets whole; and not cut, chew, or crush them.
