So far it's been 2 weeks of taking 600mg in the morning and 600mg in the evening, and no results for nerve damage from shingles. I can't find any info on how long Horizant should take to work. Thank you in advance for any information or feedback on this medication. ## While Horizant does sometimes have some immediate benefits, in many cases it takes about 4 to 5 weeks for it to reach its full level of efficacy in your body. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, mood changes, dry mouth, and weight gain. Ref: Horizant Information This medication seems to be hit, or miss, when it helps people, it seems to work wonderfully, but for others, it does absolutely nothing. I tried it, more than once, and even...
Will gabapentin work for a severe toothache? I have gabapentin and it says it's for nerve pain but it doesn't list tooth pain. I know I have an exposed nerve. The pain is excruciating. Please help. ## Take Ibuprofen 800 mg every 4 hours non stop for 24 hours.. it will eventually stop the pain from being as bad also gel caps are better ## I have been taking Gabapentin 300mg for a while and decided to stop because of the side effects. I was having difficulties with breathing and sleeping. My blood pressure has also been higher than normal. I guess that everyone is different and it affects everyone differently. My wife also takes 300mg, two tablets 3x daily and she's been having great results. Like I said, everything affects everyone differently and as long as you pay attention...
I'm on 100mg of Topamax 3 times a day. I've been on it for over 2 years now. I day all 3 doses at once. I take it as a mood stabalizer. It also helps my migraines and assists in weight loss but I've noticed sever memory loss as the years go on. My husband has had to repeat whole conversations to me. Ones we've had just a week prior. It's been more and more noticeable in the last 12 months. Does anyone else share this issue? ## No, it isn't a listed side effect for this medication, but it is difficult to know how it may affect anyone taking it on a long-term basis, since we are all different. Have you discussed the problem with your doctor? Do you take any other medications? ## I was on topamax for weight loss and had four seizures and prior to taking this had nev...
found a bunch of pills in one of my normal pill bottles that i don't recognize! they are small round, yellow, marked with 279 on on side and what looks like a 1G or 10 on the other side. haven't taken them . what the hell aaer they? ## Hi dawna, The round yellow pill you have is identified as Topiramate (50 mg). NOTE: the correct marking is "IG 279", with an upper case "i". Manufacturer: InvaGen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. National Drug Code (NDC): 31722-0279 Topiramate treats epilepsy in children and adults and was originally marked as an anticonvulsant. It is FDA approved for, and most frequently prescribed for, the prevention of migraines. It may also be used in treatment of fibromyalgia. I just had a pre-employment drug test and prior to it I told them flat out that I am prescribed meds that would raise eyebrows because they would show up on the results as positive. I am on Topamax, Klonopin, Adderall, weaning off of Phentermine, Geodon, Lamictal, Trazodone, and a nasal inhaler for thinning mucus. I was researching online which I know is a big no-no due to mixed information, but figured I'd post here anyway. I hear that Topamax can come out as a false positive for THC!!! Even Lamictal can come out positive too. Does anyone have any knowledge about what meds I'm on and what I should expect? P.S. After I took the test, I went to my potential employer and told him that the lab lady didn't care about me being on anything and it was between my future employer and...
I have been treated for bipolar 2 for 3 yrs and have been on several different meds (lamictal, lithium, abilify, seraquel and a few others). Recently went into my pdoc (I'm on 300mg lamictal, 150mg seraquel and mentally doing the best ever). But, I've gained almost 30 lbs since being on seraquel which has now become a deal breaker. My pdoc put me on topomax for weight loss 3 days ago. Any experience with topomax causing weightloss even while remaining on seraquel? (Side note: avid exerciser, high intensity, and follow a south beach diet, strict). Thanks for any responses, much thanks! ## I have to be honest and say that I am against treating the side effects from one medication with another medication, because in my opinion and experience, it just creates a vicious circle. Does anyone drink beer or other alcohol while taking this? I start on it tonight, increasing every 5 days to 900 mg total a day. I'm curious as to how much alcohol can be tolerated and if there are any reasons to avoid it completely. I like my Budweiser. Thanks for any input. ## Alcohol should be avoided while using this medication, especially at such a high dosage, because it can aggravate the side effects, making them much more problematic. These can include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and peripheral edema. You can read more on it here: Do you have any other questions? ## what are the bad things with this drug and alcohol? ## I've taken 3600mg of Gabapentin each day for 21 months now! I drink alcohol with them & feel ok. I would just say that the Gabapentin alone will l...
Is anyone familiar with the epilepsy medication aptiom and what are the reviews? ## Hi Nicole, From the looks of it, you seem to be the first person to post about this specific medication here on MedsChat. But in terms of reviews, the FDA approved Aptiom back in 2013 based on three large clinical trials, including over 1,400 people who've been living with partial-onset seizures. According to these studies, Aptiom reportedly demonstrated a statistically significant reduction (of up to 50% or more) in standardized seizure frequency from where patients were prior to treatment. This is compared to a 22% reduction in patients who received a placebo. Based on this information alone, Aptiom sounds like a viable treatment option in my opinion. However, one must also consider pros and cons w...
Are there any other drugs that can be substituted for neurontin for neuropathy? ## Have been taking Lyrica for 3 years for perifiral (sp?) neuropathy. Would like to get off this med and try one of the neuropathy formulas I've been reading about on-line. However, I think I have to get off Lyrica slowly - not all at once. I guess it wouldn't be safe to take the supplement while still taking 2 Lyrica daily???? ## Gabapentin works wonders for me. It is generic for neurotoxin. ## I have been taking Gabapentin for 6 years for back pain. I am concerned about the memory loss I have been experiencing and would like to find a substitute. ## Unfortunately, the other medication in this class, Pregabalin, can also cause the same side effects, including being forgetful, along with nausea, diz...
Does anyone know where the original Dilantin 100 mg Kapseal , white with orange band (as opposed to the newer capsule, white and orange) is available ? I am severely allergic to dyes and am afraid to switch to newer dilantin or generic phenytoin. Thank You! ## In this case, I think your best bet would be to talk to your pharmacist about it, they should be able to find something that you can take, and order it for you, if they don't already keep it in stock. Most are very accommodating when it comes to allergies. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Dilantin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and unwanted hair growth. Ref: Dilantin Information What are the markings on the ones you're questioning? I can look it up for you to see if there are any dyes in it.
## Has anyone had any problems with taking this drug? I was given the drug for restless legs. ## I take 300mg. and have memory loss, tiredness so bad I'm not sure I want to continue taking it.The doc. wants me to try another drug to give me some umph. Not to sure about that. ## Things to consider - how long have you taken the medication, what exactly do you take it for, what other medications do you take (prescriptiion & OTC). A drug's side effects may diminish or vanish completely over time. A person's age may enter into the overall picture and,as always, a second opinion never hurt. ## Since taking it I have been getting a lot of colds/bronchitis duet to low energy and high white cell count. ## I have been taking it for 2 months and the effects are not getting any bett...
I'm considering taking Horizant but am concerned once I get on Medicare in 9 months I'll have to pay the full price as I won't be able to use their discounts. For those of you on Medicare how much are you paying for Horizant? Thanks!
Updated in HorizantI found an oval white pill with.Only gb. On one side and blank on the other. What is it?? ## Based on the description provided, the closest match I could locate is an oval white pill identified as Gabapentin (600 mg). This pill however is imprinted with "G 31" on one side and blank on the other - as opposed to "GB". NOTE: there is also a score line separating the G and 31. Manufacturer: Glenmark Generics Inc. National Drug Code (NDC): 68462-0126 Does this sound like a possible match? ## It is 800mg Gabapentin.
I was given gabapentin after a spinal injury that resulted in severe radiating pain down my legs. Thanks to a great physical therapist, and a lot of hard work, things are better now. Not perfect. But a lot better. I took the gabapentin for two days. The first day I felt fine (all things considered)... but the gabapentin didn't seem to have any real side effects. The second day, I honestly felt like I was on narcotics or something. I could barely move off the couch and, though I have never used heroin, I am very, very familiar with prescription opioids. I have never been that impaired in my life. It honestly scared me. No one else I know who has ever taken this medication has ever experienced anything like this. What gives? ## Hi Stephanie, sorry to hear about your experience with Ga...
I've been taking this drug for three weeks at 100 mg once a day, nightly. My breasts are so tender and they look like they are twice their normal size. Could it be the gabapentin? How long will it take to get out of my system? ## It has been known to cause breast enlargement, according to FDA reports, along with nausea, dizziness, mood swings and weight gain. I think it only stands to reason that such enlargement would also cause them to become sore. However, I am not a doctor and it's always best to have things checked out to be sure. Are you on any other medications? ## I am also experiencing breast pain with this medication and lots of dizziness..But it does work well for the pain caused by Fibromyalgia !! Damned if you do damned if you don't !! ## Hi, my name is Mary. I...
My pain dr tests me of course and he doesn't give me nearly half of what my now non-practicing dr gave me for bulging disc and osteoarthritis in my l4 and l5 and s1 discs. I'm always in pain and 3 oxy 16 mg don't work when the topamax he gave metabolizes it so quickly. I got some neurontin and that helps so much with the nerve pain, i want to ask him about it at my next appt. But I dont want it to show in the drug screen he does every appt. Do I need to worry that it will show? ## I went to dr. Today..I have been on norco10/325 for over 2 years now I took a blood test and also urine test which she sent a letter to come in so I did .&she informed me that my test showed ( in other words) she said something a bout Matabulizing ??? Wasn't sure what she meant there&I ...
Has anyone had problems with lamotrigine (generic Lamictal) manufactured by Northstar Rx ## My pharmacy changed my Teva brand of Lamotrigine to North Star brand. Has anyone noticed a difference with the difference switching brands? ## Yes. I take lamotrigine for bi-polar depression. I have found that the Northstar version of the drug doesn't work. I took it and my mood crashed. Then I got back on the Teva made lamotrigine, and my mood stabilized. I believe the Northstar product in effective. Try to get your prescribing physician to write "Teva - DAW" on your script. ## My original Hyzaar was refilled by mail with Losartan Hctz 100 by Northstar and I think I'm having serious side effects that I just now attribute to the bp med. My legs are cramping; hip joints hurt; panti...
I was put on Wellbutrin 150 XL..and for awhile did really well on that. Then started feeling somewhat depressed again and she increased it to 300 XL once a day. That's when I noticed muscle tics in my lower legs right before I went to sleep or upon waking up. Then started having twitches in stomach, buttocks, then under lips, inside cheeks, then under left eye. I went to my pharmacist and he said he hears alot of complaints about Topamax which I have been on for 8 months. 25mg in morning..50 mg at night. Talked to Psychiatrist who said I do not need to worry about Arrive Dyskensia..and she kept me on Topamax and put me on Wellbutrin SR 200 once a day..and told me to get my electrolyte levels checked. Went to Doctor, he said they did blood work 4 months ago, and I was not deficient i...
This is a rather large white oval tablet with 13 and 2 on one side and blank on the other, scored down the middle. What is it? I can't find any information. Any help would be much appreciated! ## @ARA, Based on your description, the closest match I'm finding is an 800mg Gabapentin tablet, used for neuropathic pain. It's depicted as a white oblong shaped pill imprinted with "G | 13" on one side and blank on the other -(but scored down the center on both sides). The only logical thing I can think of is that you may have misinterpreted the G for a 2 depending on the condition of the pill. For reference, this particular tablet is reported to be approximately 19mm in size and is manufactured by a company called Glenmark Generics. Any chance this could be your pill? ## No,...
