partner was prescribed sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 tabs. In past 30 years never had problems with urinary infection. what can bring this on and do i have to be concerned about becoming infection sexually? ## A UTI is not something you can catch, through sexual contact. There are many possible causes, such as using antibiotics, not drinking enough water, not completely emptying the bladder when urinating and etc. Basically anything that upsets the natural balance of the bacteria in the urinary tract. My 13" beagle is 17 yrs old. Has a heart condition. Upper left molar became inflamed. Age and condition of dog id if'y at best for operation. Was given Clindamycin 75 mg 2x a day. this is to reduce swelling of location under left eye. I can not find anything that says this would reduce swelling. Will anything else reduce swelling for the dog?v ## Clindamycin is an antibiotic used to treat or prevent infections. Thus, the swelling is probably caused by an infection and will reduce, as the antibiotic has a chance to work to clear it up. As to anything else you can use, I am sorry, but I am not familiar with the use of most medications in animals, so I don't know what would be safe or effective. Have you tried asking the vet?

can augmentin be used and still take my weekly methotrexate injection? ## Have you discussed it with your doctor? Augmentin contains Amoxicillin with Clavulanic Acid and while it can be taken with Methotrexate, the dosage does have to be carefully adjusted. The Augmentin tends to lower the excretion of the Methotrexate, which raises the levels in your body and can cause toxicity.

Am taking amox tr-k clv and finding my esopagus and stomach hurting. My 32 year old QH mare tore her tendon sheath and severed the nerve in her left front fetlock joint. She's been on penicillan for 10 days and now can switch to an oral antibiotic. How many mg of each drug should she get? Should it be twice daily and for how long? I have 800mg/160mg tablets on hand. ## I do apologize, but I have to be honest and say that I don't have an answer for you. The only suggestion I can make is to consult a veterinarian. Ive moved to Australia from New Zealand and since arriving three months ago my face has had the worst case of acne ever. I did get a mild case of acne in high school but it got better over the years. Now since living in Australia Ive noticed extreme acne and red, puffy. itchy and dry rashes on my face. I used proactive for the first time a month and a half ago and that did help clear the pimples after a week or so but the rashes quickly spread and my face started burning. I then decided to stop using proactive and see the doctor. The doctor then prescribed me Doxycycline 50g which i have to take once every day for 6 months and also wash my face with a unscented, acne-free soap bar. Is this true and what would the dosage be? ## I'm sorry, but I don't have any information on this, out information pertains to the use of medication in humans, not animals. Have you tried asking your regular veterinarian? Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic, so it is not completely the same as the Albon, so I would suggest getting a second opinion to make sure you are getting proper treatment for your pet.

How can I be allergic to AMOX TR-K CLV but not to Amoxicillin? ## I am itching so badly it hurts, I've taken Amox TR-K CLV. The itching is terrible and my skin feels really hot. I had surgery on both feet to remove lypomas on Jan. 19. 1 foot was healing very slowly. Dr. thought I may have staph - did a culture. It came back no staph or infection. Said I have skin flora. Dr. put me on this antibiotic as a precaution b/c this Wed. he is going to do a "scrub" on 1 foot to enable new skin to grow back. I took med. for 7 days ( 1 twice a day.) He ordered a refill.
