Bactrim Bz

I had surgery on both feet to remove lypomas on Jan. 19. 1 foot was healing very slowly. Dr. thought I may have staph - did a culture. It came back no staph or infection. Said I have skin flora. Dr. put me on this antibiotic as a precaution b/c this Wed. he is going to do a "scrub" on 1 foot to enable new skin to grow back. I took med. for 7 days ( 1 twice a day.) He ordered a refill. I took 2 pills of the refill & work up with a severe rash resembling measels. I have no itching. The last pill I took was Thursday a.m. Dr. put me on benadryl gel caps every 4 hrs. Problem is that when I woke up this morning (Sat.) the rask had gotten much worse & spread to my entire body. I have been running 101 - 102 fever for 2 days now. Dr. have prescribed Leviquin since I must be having a reaction to the "Bactrim". I am afraid to start taking that strong of med. until this rash goes away or I am positive what is causing it. Nurse said she doesn't think my fever is caused by meds - I must have something going on. Suggested I see my primary dr. which I am coming Monday. Should the rash have gotten better by now. This is 3 days of taking Benadryl every 4 hours. Can't get to Dr. till Moday.

If the rash was caused by the antibiotic Bactrim, then there is a good chance it was just one of the normal side effects, which is a non-allergic skin rash and since it is non-allergic then it isn't likely that the Benadryl will help. It will really only go away with time, as the medication is processed out of your body.

And yes, it could also be causing the fever, we've had many similar complaints about people experiencing a fever and night sweats, while taking Bactrim.
