Can this drug be used to treat chlmeydia? I know an antibiotic is used to treat it but would like to know if this specific one will do the trick ## The first choices to treat Chlamydia are usually Azithromycin, or Doxycycline. Amoxicillin, without the Clavulanic Acid, is usually the last choice for pregnant women that can't use most of the other antibiotic choices. my sister is 17 years old. she told me the she had sex without using condoms with his guy she been talking to for a while but the was the first time she did not use condoms. Next day he states the he had chlamydia in the past and he thinks he got them again for her to go get check out. I read the takes 2 to 3 weeks to show up on test. so should she go today as soon as possible to get treated even though is not going to show up or should she wait 2 to 3 weeks to go get tested? Also I had sulfamethoxazole-tmp from a UTI I had before and had some pills left and told her to take 2 tablets once a day because the pill was a antibiotics. I have been sick and was taking Amoxicillian. I took a drug screen and tested positive for cocaine. I do not use cocaine and would like to know if amoxicillian would give a false positive result. As my mom is trying to make me take it. ## According to an abstract from nih.gov, Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim is no longer commonly recommended by doctors for treating respiratory tract infections (such as strep throat) - as streptococcus pyogenes is believed to be resistant to this drug. This is not to say it won't work or that it never gets prescribed. However it does suggest that perhaps there are better/safer options out there of which I'd encourage you to ask your doctor about after an in person evaluation. Besides that, if your mom doesn't have a full prescription you could end up creating an even stronger antibiotic resistant bacteria that only makes things worse. I was prescribed cipro to treat a uti. I stopped taking it after 3 days due to tendinitis symptoms.
