Penicillin VK is classified by the FDA as an antibiotic, so it will only be effective at treating bacterial infections. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

Improper use creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, so it should only be taken, if your doctor has prescribed it for you.
