I accidentally took 5mg amlodipine with 20mg lisinopril. Normally I take amlodipine in the morning and lisinopril at night. ## Unless your doctor or pharmacist sees a reason to be concerned, there should not be an issue. Many of us take multiple medications to help control high blood pressure and heart conditions, multiple times a day. They do not necessarily have to be split up. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. How are you feeling? Did you experience any adverse effects?

Can amlodipine besylate and amlodipine/benazepril be taken at the same time? This is for my high blood pressure. ## Has your doctor instructed you take them both? The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Multiple medications are often prescribed, if someone's blood pressure is too high, and the doctor feels that it should be brought down as fast, as possible.

I have been taking Amlodipine for high blood pressure for about 7 years which has been fine up till about 3 to 4 months when I experienced very hot sweats, dry mouth and cough, shoulder and neck pains and some fluttering on my right side just below my breast bone, these have got worse and more frequent. But when I go for my brisk Walk I don't get them. I am due to see my doctor on Friday. Can you tell me if an alternative available to amlodipine that would not have these side effects.

How long will the drug be in my system? ## Hello, James! How are you? The FDA classifies Amlodipine as a calcium channel blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increase urination and hypotension. However, if you are taking it to treat one of these serious health conditions, I strongly urge you not to stop taking it, without speaking to your doctor to replace it with something else. I understand that side effects can be problematic, but letting your condition get out of control could put you at risk of heart attack, stroke or congestive heart failure. Any of which risks being fatal. What types of problems are you having with it and how long have you been tak...

Amlodipine is known to cause erectile dysfunction. What is an alternative drug that does not do this? Thanks. ## Hello, Jim! How are you? Not everyone experiences this side effect, according to the FDA, so there is no way of knowing if it will cause you to experience ED. Additionally, it is a potential side effect for all blood pressure/cardiac medications, so there isn't any that can be guaranteed not to cause it. The best thing to do is to try the medication you've been prescribed, and if it does cause problems, inform your doctor and ask about trying an alternative medication. Is there anything else I can help with?

I had a reaction I think. I felt horrible. My muscles and joints were aching. Can I stop it after two days? ## Those can be normal side effects of this medication, according to the NIH, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. Such side effects are typically transient and will go away, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take about 4 to 5 weeks. It would be best to have this checked out, rather than just stopping it, your doctor can prescribe an alternative medication that may not make you so miserable.
