My mother has been diagnosed with old age dementia. She has not been sleeping well for the past 6 week and neither have I. She seems to be fine but I am not as I have to work during the day. She is currently on no medication and has no high blood pressure or diabetes, She is actually very healthy. What can I give her to sleep at night.

My 79 yr old father has just been prescribed Aricept medication to assist in slowing down his short term memory loss & cognitive impairment. However is a very fit and healthy person other than his memory issues and we are concerned that the side effects of Aricept will actually cause his physical health to suffer. Most side effects only last about 4 to 6 weeks, while someone's body is getting used to a medication. The common ones for Aricept may include nausea, diarrhea, anorexia and abdominal pain.

He has mild AD and was given Cloraz Dipot at first for anexiety. Next appt. few days later gave him Donepezil . He wanted the anexiety pill but still has to take the donepezil before going to bed. ## How long would a side effect like dizziness last if someone was wrongly given 28 Donepezil tablets instead of their usual Montelukast asthma tablets, if they then had 14 of the correct tablets. I have heard that in some friends that as per the news paper articles published recently ANXIT has been banned i India. Honestly I have not personally read these articles, but one of the people who gave this information about the articles is my own elder sister who had earlier consulted a doctor who had prescribed Anxit for my Dad. Now the same sister advised us to STOP ANXIT as she had personally read the news about banning of ANXIT. If you search you'll find anecdotal evidence that is split about 50-50, some people claim it works great, but there are just as many who say it doesn't. Has it been recommended for you? ## No one recommended it, but I've read Dr. Braverman's books and am interested in feeding my brain the food chemicals it needs to operate optimally. (I had a small stroke in 2011 and am currently taking ginkgo biloba.) Have just ordered a bunch of brain sups like huperzine A and will try one at a time to monitor effects. I heard that recently Anxit 0.5 mg ( manufacturer - Micro Labs Ltd ) has been banned. Is this true? Please clarify if this a safe drug or has been banned in India ## Is usage of Valium 5 mg for sleep risky? Mt father (85 year old) had problems sleeping and a friendly doctor suggested we give him Valium 5 mg for sleeplessness. Yes, as long as it's not a time released formulation, which would be denoted by something on the label such as SR, XR, ER or something similar, there's no real harm in it. My father 78 years age is suffering from parkinson & it is in a quite an advanced stage. Earlier it was deteriorating but was fine going to markets etc. Just 4 months back had orthostatic hypotenstion his pressure is falling drastically when he is standing up and then after waling for just a minute or so he starts shaking vigorously. We have shown to 3 neurologist given some medicine but still no improvement as such. Moreover he is having dementia was talking irrelevant things but still we were managing but now for the past two days he is just sleeping for atleast 18-20 hrs a day. dementia ## I was told by a friend that nomenda helped her father who has Alzheimer's type dementia. My husband has dementia plus other problems and I would like to know if this medication might help him.
