Adderall Generics Thread (Page 3) (Top voted first)

Updated

Hey guys. Most of us are probably in the same boat--our Adderall doesn't work and it's horrible and we can't function well and it's bull**** and we all know that, but there are other threads/forums to vent frustration. We need a thread with the basics to help us all get going again or to know what to avoid (even though that seems like all of them these days, ha.) PLEASE POST THE FOLLOWING: 1. MANUFACTURER OF YOUR RECENT ADDERALL PRESCRIPTION 2. XR OR IR? HOW MANY MG? COLOR/SHAPE/IMPRINT? (if possible) 3. ***PHARMACY NAME*** AND MONTH/YEAR OF SCRIPT 4. YOUR LOCATION (if you are comfortable with that) 5. SIDE EFFECTS/SYMPTOMS. GOOD? BAD? Generally speaking, chain pharmacies use the same manufacturer at all of their locations throughout the country and that will make it easier for us to either get a hold of that specific manufacturer's Adderall, OR to avoid it if it's a bad batch. Replies to other posts are allowed, but please try to stay on topic so that the thousands of people viewing this thread can easily keep track when they are going in for their monthly prescription. Thanks so much!

This thread is old, I know but gonna answer the question in case someone needs this information for any reason. Currently, I'm taking Adderall XR 20 mg. Once in the afternoon, and I take Vyvanse 70mg in the mornings. But the Adderall are generic and they are Orange capsules, used to be blue. I live in Louisiana and I get them from a small family owned pharmacy.

Just picked up my script here in South Florida after 2 1/2 weeks of searching for a Pharmacy that had any! There's a shortage going on right now apparently.

I usually use Walgreens but they have no idea when they're going to receive any, so I finally found a mom & pop (Generic Depot) that had my 30mg Adderal IR (1.5 or 45mgs per day) so of course I jumped in my car immediately and picked it up!

The imprint code on the tablet is e506 (Elite Laboratories), it's an orange football shape like the Walgreens brand I normally get but they're slightly smaller. I'm not sure exactly what generic brand I was getting from Walgreens but they always worked well for me (sometimes a little too well if after taking a break ??).

So anyway I took a half (15mgs) about 3 hours ago, but after feeling nada after waiting 1.5 hours, I took a whole tablet (45mgs in total now). It's been about 3 hours as I'm writing this and I don't feel hardly anything! Mind you that I haven't had ANY in 2 1/2 weeks or more since there's a shortage! Usually a half of a tablet is more than enough for me after not taking any in weeks but..

So I guess Elite Laboratories Adderall is garbage! OR it simply takes forever to kick in and I'll be bouncing off the walls in a bit, but I doubt that's the case! I was thinking that any brand is better than nothing, but perhaps I was wrong about that, IDK? The jury is still out..

Re: Pubmech (# 81) Expand Referenced Message

Update:

I was wrong about the 30mg Elite Laboratories Adderall IR, it's actually not too bad. It just took a lot longer to kick-in then what I'm used to, and it doesn't seem to last quite as long as the Walgreens brand, but no big deal. I would definitely get it again if Walgreens can't come through again in the future.

I have been waiting for over a week to get my D-Amphetamine 20mg filled from Walgreens here in Florida and they have been on back order. I was surprised to finally get a call from Walgreens saying they were ready for pickup. They usually have Lannett and today I got a brand I never heard of, Ascent pharmaceutical, inc... my question is are they any good?. I just took two of them and I will see! Thanks

I am on 30mg twice daily.
I fill at Walgreens and they always use teva oval b/974 but they are out and on backorder with no idea when they will be getting more. Walmart has stock but they are round orange with T/376, made by Ascent . I am not a fan of these but there are better than others out there.

Re: Drew (# 95) Expand Referenced Message

@Drew, you need to figure out what works for you and not accept the meds at the pharmacy if filled with one you don't want. I always give them the script and if they have them in stock I ask which brand. If it is one I don't want I ask for my script back and go somewhere else.
NorthStar has 2 formularies made by 2 different manufacturers and they both are horrible. 1 is from Sun pharma (Frontida bought their plant and probably formulary so may see either name associated with it) which is what you got The other is from Aurolife aka Aurobindo. If you look up the pill on a pill identification website, they will usually say the manufacturer and won't mention NorthStar. But, at the pharmacy they will say they are NorthStar. There are many brands that have a different manufacturer make it for them.

Should also mention, some brands have changed their formularies which may account for 1 brand no longer working. I don't recall the dates but sandoz I believe has, maybe Lannett, Teva I think did too a while back when they took over the name brand formulary. I think they switched their generic to the same formulary as the brand.

I was taking corepharma 40 mg before I got out of bed. Then 0, 10, or 20 in the early afternoon depending on how I felt. Then all of a sudden they stopped working. I recall a couple times thinking I may have taken 2 simvastatin by accident instead since there was zero therapeutic value. Kept trying to figure out if a different med I started taking was the reason etc. Eventually I realized the pills were the same shape and size as my other ones, but a different color. Looked the same color with lights off. Finally realizing it was a different brand I looked it up. Aurolife/Aurobindo. I started taking 80mg. Wouldn't get me out of bed. When I did get myself up I took 20 more. In the early afternoon I took 20 or 40 more. Total 120 to 140 mg per day and never got the equivalent therapeutics of 40 to 50 of corepharma. I think corepharma may have discontinued since then :(

Brands as far as my experience, includes no longer made ones.

Good:
- Teva
- Shire
- Barr
- Sandoz

Good Enough:
- Mallinckrodt

Crap:
- Aurolife/Aurobindo
- Sun
- NorhtStar
- Some white pill with the same size and shape that I never identified. Years ago.

My own rule of thumb is, if it is manufactured by an Indian company or has an Indian parent company, it probably sucks. Indian pharma culture is make it quick and cheap. Heard it is not true for all, but the bad ones I tried and the ones with the worst reviews were almost always Indian. Nothing against actual India or Indian people. Just their pharma industry sucks.

Side note, all amphetamine, methylphenidate, methamphetamine medications in the U.S. are manufactured in the U.S. by law.

Some companies create an American subsidiary or just manufacture here. Others get distributed by American companies under their names.

- Aurolife - Aurobindo India. Distributed under NorthStar name.

- Sun India - sold plant and formulary to Frontida. Distributed under NorthStar name.

- Accord - Intas India bad reviews

- Camber - Hetero India, manufactured by Ascent (Ascent hard to follow history)

- Dr. Reddy India bad reviews

- Epic started American, bought by Chinese company. Bad reviews

- Zydus mixed reviews but more good ones than bad. Indian company that bought formulary from Nesher. Think they stopped manufacturing.

Some companies like NorthStar and Prasco make some drugs but also distribute a lot from various other companies from around the world. So you don't necessarily know what you are getting till you look deeper.

I totally agree. Great thread. SANDOZ are very effective for me specifically. THE Instant release. I use to be able to find that manufacturer 30 mg my doctor could get no problem. For the past 3 years. Now apparently there is a issue with them. Back order I'm told. I don't understand why. He told me he can't find a Sandoz supplier. He even called around to various pharmacies for me. Nothing. I'm hearing they only make 20 mg now. I'm going to call Sandoz today and ask questions. I can't tolerate much else. I live in Orange County by the way. COSTA MESA to be exact. Last prescription I got I risked it and went to CVS. I got the Auro U31 instant. They use to be horrible but seen to have reformulated? Anyone else agree? You must get the drug code. The manufacturer will give it to you. Pharmacies will no longer give over the phone info about which brand they carry. Why? I hear because it prevents people from robbing or ?? - No straight answers. It should be mandatory we get the info. After all we pay good money and why fill something that rodent work and we are stuck for a month suffering. Once we turn in that script they won't always give it back. Core pharma is horrible. At least for me. Yes. We need to keep this forum thread going and give each other all the info we can share to help one another. DON'T purchase meds on the internet. Stupid. You don't know what u are getting and it's usually counterfeit. Plus it's illegal I believe. We all have each other's best interest at heart. I am taking my script in. I believe they only have the Teva...brand. The oval ones that tastes like sugar. Ugh. So frustrating. CVS on Santa Margarita Parkway in Lake Forest, CA has the 20 mg instant. Stamped U31 I believe. At least they did a month ago. The wait there was almost 2 hours. Try the smaller ma and pa pharmacies. But try to stick to one. Otherwise it raises a red flag that now we are pharmacy shopping?

20mg orange oval - fruth pharmacy in Charleston WV carries Teva manufacturer which are the ones that work. If not mistaken they're the same Adderall formulation and the only manfctr that can legally label as substitute instead of generic.

Re: KayLynn (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

Yes that's correct I have been taking it for 5 or 6 years and I've tried different kinds the only one that works is Teva oblong orange 30 milligram twice days when I take there are some months they don't work don't know why but most the time they do work Walgreens is where I get them. The yellow ones that one lady was speaking of OMG it's not right something should be done to give people this stuff and then the pharmacy tells us it's all in our head at least they tell me that. That's just like I get oxycodone 15 mg my Pharmacy gave me some that look like little yellow beads I've never seen them ever of course they didn't work I'm tired of this generic stuff they don't work don't. We all know it's not the same exact medication. I think people are noticing it more and more I hope something can be done, but I doubt it just like everything else consumers complain about especially prescription meds thank you

So tired of this nonsense. Can’t concentrate or focus...tired of missing the mark. I feel I’m becoming some what of a useless embecil. Can we contact the FDA? What can we do? I mean if diabetic medication was “played” with like I’m thinking the Adderrall/amphetamine medication industry is - for whatever reasons...usually it’s about the money, but come on that’s dangerous-what can be done? How do we start an alliance of some kind? What damages does this have to cause in order to get some attention to resolve this matter? How about getting some pharmaceutical representative assistance to look into this? Sorry to sound so pathetic, but I have read different posts about the same problem with this medication. We can confidently conclude that many others are experiencing the same problems with this ADD/ADHD/Narcolepsy medication. The people I have been privileged to talk to, tell me the same thing. They can’t seem to find any longer, the brand/dosage, that has been working for them. The available generic(s) are like taking trash, they’re a joke, a placebo, grrrr the frustration!!! This is really happening, it’s obvious! Please someone help!!!

Re: CW8308 (# 21) Expand Referenced Message

PLEASE POST THE FOLLOWING:

1. MANUFACTURER OF YOUR RECENT ADDERALL PRESCRIPTION : actavis
2. XR OR IR? HOW MANY MG? COLOR/SHAPE/IMPRINT? (if possible) : XR/30MG caps/orange football shaped with #3061 imprinted on these
3. ***PHARMACY NAME*** AND MONTH/YEAR OF SCRIPT: Fairview Pharmacy 2-23-18
4. YOUR LOCATION (if you are comfortable with that) Princeton,MN
5. SIDE EFFECTS/SYMPTOMS. GOOD? BAD? Bad side effects/headaches/spaced out/tired all the time/unable to concentrate/loss of pleasure in pretty much anything lately/head feels heavy a lot of days/I hate this brand as I have tried this in the past and it is horrible. It makes me feel tired and does me no good. I also take my Wellbutrin later in the morning and this does not help at all while on this medicine either. I have requested at this time that I only get the IMPAX brand again like before and hopefully this does work for me again. I have also tried the Strattera with out any effects at all and this did not work for me. I also have been on this Adderall script for many years and up until about February last year when I switched to another pharmacy I had zero issues at all on this medication. I agree that something needs to be done about this Adderall and the people that have been on it for a long time and the new medicine claiming to work out there that is only a knock off and does not even work.

Re: BendBack (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

Sorry to hear what happened with your sudden change in meds. I was on Strattera about 13 years ago. It made me feel horrible and I ended up in the emergency room because it caused a panic attack! Thankfully, the doc took me off of it, but didn't prescribe anything to replace or substitute it. I later found a different doc, who prescribed adderall (regular), to me. Until about 10 months ago, I didn't know there were different generics. I had always received the same pill, every month, for 4 years. It was Corepharma, but they don't make them anymore. My pharmacy began carrying Aurobindo, which was junk. I switched pharmacies several times, trying to find a generic comparable to Coreparma. I've found none. I hope your doc can put you on something that works for you.

Just got a script of Mylan 20mg from CVS in Central Ohio. It doesn't "punch me in the face" like other brands can do. Seems to be "smoother" sailing and consistent so far. But I'll report back after a few days or so, to update you on it's effectiveness.

Re: Comments Submitted (# 28) Expand Referenced Message

Mylan is where it's at right now. After two years of searching for Sandoz I finally found it, and it is now by far the worst generic I've tried, including Aurobindo. The new Sandoz pills have zero effect and even taking a higher dose did nothing but give me anxiety. Teva used to be good, but something changed in their formula 6 months ago. I've filled Mylan on and off over the last few years and they've been good every time.

I hate the Aurobindos so much I drive to another town for Wallgreens for Tevas. I recently complained to:
"[email protected]" after finding their information in a chronic pain article about quality control of generic medications, how yanking stock causes backorders, etc. They replied and it didn’t seem like a canned response. I ask that anyone with generics that they think are crap please tell the FDA.

1. Adderall XR generic manufacturer: Prasco

2.
30mg XR - Orange & clear capsule with visible beads
20mg XR - Solid orange capsule
10mg XR - Blue & clear capsule with visible beads

3. Filled at Kroger Pharmacy, most recently 09/2018

4. Toledo, Ohio

5. TL:DR - Prasco was helping at first but stopped helping a few months ago and now it makes me super demotivated and lethargic and makes my neck hurt. Feels sort of like it helps the hyperactive part of my adhd a bit but makes the inattentive part go in to overdrive so it levels out to just being useless.

I have been on 30mg XR (up until June 2018), and now on a 20mg XR and 10mg XR (started in August). All of which were Prasco brand. I am a newly diagnosed combination ADHD and have never been on name brand Adderall XR so my experience is all fairly recent and without a name-brand baseline.

Prior to April 2018 I had been on a few different generics of both XR and IR but was not recording data at the time because I did not realize generics were a giant mess.

The first month I was on the Prasco (April I think) I did not have any negative side effects, and felt that it helped a bit with my focus but not a lot which is what caused me to take note of the manufacturer and start trying to read about all the different ones.

In June after refilling the same script and again receiving prasco xr, I felt demotivated and without any focus. Focus feels just like it did before I was taking anything or maybe a little worse, but the demotivation was much worse. Unmedicated, my focus is everywhere and I am very high energy and all over the place. With this refill though, I was more of a sedate unfocused - Just a lot of kind of staring at the thing I was meant to be focused on while my mind wandered. And my impulse control was terrible, my ability to force myself to change tasks or start tasks was even worse than unmedicated. I wasn't sure if that was due to some change in meds or if it was something else going on with me at the time though.

For July, I switched meds ENTIRELY and took one of the ritalins which is not what that thread was about; Ritalin does not work for me so I had migraines and no focus, but it was kind of a move of desperation just to see if maybe I could get away from the inconsistency of the adderall. The demotivation was better on the ritalin though than on the generic adderall, and even though I was all over the place my ability to redirect my focus was better than the previous month.

For August, I switched to prasco generic adderall 20mg xr & 10mg xr so I could space them out instead of 30mg all at once. Same issue - No focus, demotivated. I've also been having issues with neck pain and muscle soreness, which I did not correlate but after having seen someone else mention this, I feel it's worth note since the issue started at the same time my response to the meds changed and that the pain went away during my month switch to ritalin.

Also, one specific behavior I exhibit has gotten WAAAAY worse on the current Prasco. Sometimes I get 'stuck' on ideas or in places and it's easiest to describe it with an example: Sometimes I stop at home depot with a project in mind but without any firm details, and I find myself spending hours there in sort of a mildly distressed state being unable to make any decisions and being unable to leave so I just wander around. Not even brain storming, my mind just kind of goes blank and I get stuck and can't move on and it's a big pain in the ass. This has gotten WAY worse, not so much when the Prasco is in my system, but during the post-medication fade after about 3PM. So much so that I will no longer go shopping by myself any time other than the morning, but I can't always control what things are going to set this off so I'm still getting stuck in other ways. It's so much worse that I really have to blame the Prasco, it's never been so bad in my life. It got better during my month on ritalin.

As I am sure you are all aware, it's really difficult to piece together information about these generics, but it looks like Prasco had a formula change around that time best I can see - I think they were previously distributing their own authorized generic, but then started distributing Teva's formulation under their name. If anyone knows if this is correct I'd love some clarity.

I really, really hope more people post in this thread with the correct above format, because it would be so helpful for trying to piece things together!

I called my pharmacy and asked. They were really cool and honest about it. They straight up told me they just switched companies where they get them from to Aurobindo because they’re “much cheaper.” I let her know that in my opinion they’re much cheaper because they are absolutely not worth it. She said I can come fill out a form explaining it so that they consider switching back to their former company.

My advice to you all about this topic would be to ask your pharmacy what manufacturing company they go through. On my bottle, it says Mfg: Aur — that’s how to know.
