Anyone Else Trying Savella For Fibromyalgia? (Page 29)
UpdatedThis is a new medication that just came out for fibromyalgia. I have several other conditions involving spinal degeneration , herniated discs, arthritus, etc.
I've been taking this medication for a little over 2 weeks now and have worked up to the full dose. My biggest symptom seems to be upset stomach but I don't know if it's from the Savella or from de-toxing from 7 other medications that I've been on for over 10+ yrs.
Is there anyone else out there that has started this medication that can give me any information that they may have on it?
Living with Fibro for at least 10 yrs...like many of you, I have been a guinea pig for every new drug that holds promise of relief from this debilitating disorder. My primary doc wants me to go off Zoloft before starting Savella, but I'm terrified of my depression worsening. Here to tell all of you who have fibro & depression about studies showing that NSAIDs can make your antidepressants (SSRI's) not work. See link: healthland.time.com/2011/04/25/how-advil-thwarts-the-effects-of-prozac. This would also include Savella, which is a dual action reuptake inhibitor affecting both serotonin and norepinephrine. Also wanted to share that the book "The Fibromyalgia Advocate" which describes in detail all the symptoms we all share and can help you educate your docs (who often know just enough to be dangerous in dealing with fibro patients). I see links to history of Lyme disease, Epstein-Barr (mono), low vitamin D/magnesium/B6, sleep disorders, and long term use/trials of antibiotics - especially the stronger ones like Cipro strongly correlate with fibromyalgia. I'm trying to get well enough to go back to school and help study this. Appreciate you all posting & sharing!
I think I am starting Savella today. In the past month I have weaned off Cymbalta and am currently weaning off Lyrica...The worse experience, still have a weak to go. I am just trying to get as much info on this med as I can. I have had neuropathy since the 1980's , had been on Gabapentin from 2002 until 2012..and then went from amitriptaline, off amatriptaline onto ??, added Cymbalta, off ?? added Lyrica, off Cybalta and now off Lyrica...nothing helping. I was doing great until foot surgery in Aug 2012...I am very discouraged...worked very hard at losing 107 # have gained bacm 50 of them...so, if my insurance will approve of the meds, I am going to try this...thanks for letting me vent.
I myself have been on savella now for a little over 2 months. The hot flashes are horrible and gaining weight like crazy. I am having mood swings and a feeling of not being able to tell the difference between reality and my dreams......
The sweating never goes away, summer heat makes it worse. That is the main reason I stopped taking it. It also made me very lethargic and depressed, it messes with your head. I have found that large doses of vitamin d, valium and naproson help more because they dont have the awful side effects of savella. I
Can you say what TYPE of correlation w the antibx--- Cipro & Levaquin?
I'm a Pharmacist, & have been battling fibro/acute & chronic pain for about 3 mths... It's about got me down..Savella is my last choice...
I took savella for 2 months. The hot flashes were horrible & the nausea never gors away. After about 2 mo ths of taki g it U started to have very hostile thoughts. It was controllable thoughts. I started winging mysrlf off of it & made the dr take me of off it. I have never had a med play with my brain as much as savella did.
this is first time I am on Fibro medication.I am taking savella 100mg/day for 2 months. I was not able to sleep so I reduced to 50mg/day and taking trazadone 100mg/ and melatonin 6mg/night .my hours of sleep are increasing every day. I heard sleep gets better overtime but you have to hang in there. I am hungry , tiered , and upset stomach when I don't eat enough. But no pain ,no IBS any more.I am eating more than normal so have to see how it effect my weight. I am happy with the pill because I just have to take one in the morning and it works till next day.I hope this helps.
I was very sick and was on Levequin for 30 days. I am sure it was most of my cause of Fibro. I took Savella for 3 years and loved it! Of course nothing takes all the pain away but it really helped my burning and stabbing pains. I am now getting on it again. (I lost my insurance) You have to get on slow.... I mean slow! Like 2 starter packs. I have very little side affects this way. Like any medications it takes time to adjust to it. My side affects are RLS sometimes. But I back off my caffeine and if it really bothers me I take a mussel relaxer.
Have been on savella 50mg bid for 4 wks. This is the first I have heard about hearing loss but this has been a problem for me since starting Savella. Hope is a temporary side effect.
I just got put on Savella for what im assuming is Fibromyalgia. I have been in a lot of pain. I also take Tramadol and Norco but I am worried about taking the Tramadol with the Savella because of Seritonin syndrome. I will have to stop using the Tramadol for a while and see if the Savella is better. I am worried about RLS as a side effect of the Savella as I already have it pretty bad... Only time will tell.
It is funny that you mentioned Cipro. I had no unusual health issues at the time and was placed on Cipro for a sinus infection. A couple of days on the antibiotics and I became sick with horrible stomach pain and throwing up. My dr. took me off Cipro, but I never really got better. The doctors could not figure out what was wrong for over a year. It turns out I gallbladder disease, which I never had trouble with before taking Cipro. It seems that was my start of unexplainable illnesses. From there, shin splints that would never go away, involuntary muscle contractions, joint pain, memory loss, difficulty concentrating, numbness in hands and feet, spasms from neck to toe, and the intestianal issues. It started in 2008 and I was just recently diagnosed in November 2008. Like everyone else, I just want to know how/why and find a cure.
Hi all I have read a lot of these post.. I have been on Savella for 2 1/2 years and it has been great for me. Yes I did have the initial dizzy and nausea feeling along with mild head ache but it did not last long. I take 100 mg twice a day. It does not make it go completely away you can still feel the pain slightly in the back ground. But it is not throbbing and burning and unbearable as it had been. I would also like to add that I do still have my flare ups and in those times nothing helps!!
Why did you just stop your depression medication. They r not meant to be stopped abruptly. You need to be weaned or you can take them both a lot of pharmacist are telling pain to to do this against medical advices from their doctor. Don't you think they know about SSRI syndrome. A lot will keep you on both . Times spread 6 hr apart. The side effects you think you might be feeling might be withdrawal from the antidepressant. Depends on the half life. Don't let some new person working at walgreens who sees an interaction tell you how to be medicated. You can even find out more from poison control as a resource , but if you trust your doctor that little then why r you seeing him. I am taking savella and an antidepressant along with other meds to control my pain . I probably have fibro now but my condition is complex regional pain syndrome type 2 related to nerve being cut in surgery. I am no longer with that surgeon.
Also don't just go by other peoples experience with medication. What works with their body chemistry might not work with yours. Thank goodness their are choices.
To bad that medicare doesn't cover by savela. Im in fix income cant pay $180 for it i have on it for over a year i cant pay for it if you can pay for it then my addvise to take it it helps a little
I'm curious if you're still taking Savella once a day. I have no side effects from the morning dose but the evening dose ruins my sleep, doesn't help the pain and causes horrible night sweats. My doctor trusts me and pretty much left the dosage up to me due to my extreme sensitivity to higher doses of just about any medication. I think I'll go back to only morning dosing and see if I continue to improve.
Hi I been on lexapro for few years and seems to help.now my pain doctor wants to put me on savella and go off lexapro, but i dont want to.anything else for pain than switching meds?
I have been on Savella for about a year and I have had some depression and anxiety. My doctor added Wellibutrin about 4 months ago and it took a little while to work but I am feeling much better now. I have also lost some weight being on the Wellibutrin.
Yes, I had to add another antidepressant to the Savella. It really helped and Im not depressed any longer.
