2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 47) (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.
I am new on here, but I am definitely in the right place. I can only get oxycodone 15mg 3 times a day. I go to CVS. I'm not sure why anyone would even try to get help from Walgreen's. I live in rural Putnam Co. I have been a medical professional here since 1999. I have been struggling with chronic pain for 10+ years. I have 17 legitimate pain causing disorders that span muscle, bone, joints and nerves. I am in EXTREME pain, just as you all are. I am getting scared because my CVS is starting to act "uncomfortable." I have been established with my recent doc for 1 year and also with CVS. Before that, I saw a doc and went to the pharm at my job. On Feb 28, 2012 I left my job feeling more tired than usual. Turns out I had mono (aka Epstein Barr or Chronic Fatigue) to add to the list that also includes HepC, diabetes-insulin dependent, fibromyalgia, neuropathy, carpal tunnel, reactive polyarthritis, spondylosis, fused C-spine, etc., plus the depression and anxiety that come with the package. I got rather inspired as I was wading through the pages of this message board. I relate to almost everyone's position. Oh, BTW, I lost my BCBS after 17 years of being a professional, and now have no income. So, I am lucky to have the doc I do. He knows that I need referrals, biopsies, labs, etc...but I'm uninsured. He is an Internal Medicine doc and I'm really a complex case. I try not to be too honest about my PAIN and low blood sugars (31 the other morning-fortunately a friend revived me), burning pain (that is a new one. OMG burning feels just like it says. Quite a new horrible addition to the other aching, stabbing, all over pain), numbness in hands and feet because I do not want him to stop seeing me. It's a balancing act. So, I get my 3 oxies a day-would love to get 4...can't even imagine the relief I would get from 4 30's a day. I might actually go out and DO something. He prescribes my Klonopin, Glipizide, Elavil, Pancrease, and I get my Insulin, Savella, Nuvigil, and Ranitidine from Patient Assistance Programs (check out RxAssist.org). If this can help someone, great! I found a PAP for Oxycontin-CR. You have to be uninsured. Today, I checked with my CVS to see when I can get my next script since Feb has 28 days. It will be 3-3-13. OK, I'm now in the process of figuring out how they count. I used to be able to go to the doc every 4th Monday, go to CVS and get my meds. You could get them 2-3 days early, depending on the pharmacist. OK, great. I run out Sat p.m. because I take my meds as prescribed. BUT, I am not sure how I am supposed to get up and drive 15 miles without my morning dose. Mornings are a nightmare as you well know. I try to save a dose or skip a dose, but I can't. I went through this whole mindgame for awhile thinking I was an addict. Well, I'm NOT. An addict wouldn't still have the 30th day doses. Also, if I were an addict, I could just go through detox--yeah, yeah, it's horrible, but it is FINITE--I could detox and the PAIN would go away. Nope. Not an addict. I take my meds as scheduled, even though I would love to be--if not pain-free, at least pain-controlled. So, I accept. I have to. But, now we got Scott in office, the DEA excuses, the "oh, sorry, we're out..." or the "we only get enough for our existing patients and we are no longer accepting new patients." When in a capitalistic country does a business turn away customers?" The worst part for me is that I know where I can get Dilaudid, Roxies, Morphine, Methadone, even freaking Suboxone, almost at any given moment for $1 per mg. Now Percocets are rare, but that's only cos they are so inexpensive. Yes, I'm being very cynical. I am a clinician. I am still licensed because I carry the false hope that I may one day work again. Sue me. I am so sick of how screwed this pain medicine BS has become. It has the opposite effect of its intended "agenda." It turns law abiding chronic pain Sufferers into doctor shoppers, or even worse, pharmacy shoppers. One time the pharmacist had the cahoneys to ask me in public, "well, what do you take them for, anyway?" No, I didn't tell him that it wasn't his business. I burst into tears because I was in searing pain and sobbed (very VERY loudly), "I have HepC and diabetes and fibromyalgia and...." I named them all, especially after he turned beet red and tried to hush me. I got my meds. I didn't care about my dignity. I HURT. My question? Is anyone willing to join me and advocate for us? I will do whatever needs to be done. I am a professional with lots of numbers after her name. I am uninsured. I am unemployed due to my, as my doc eloquently states it, "unrelenting, uncontrolled chronic pain and fatigue." I have just now applied for SS Disability. I have worked and put my time in. But, now, I am in constant, debilitating pain and I want to do something about it. I have created an email account solely for this purpose. It is {edited for privacy} If you have ideas, info, knowledge, names and addresses of the right people to contact...and if you want to be a voice of change, I am ready to begin advocating to the governor, DEA, CEO of Florida Pharmacy Association and anyone else who will listen to reason. Do not email me any violent, illegal, childish waste of our time insults. I am above the board in my desire for change for those of us who suffer in silence or feel powerless. But, now I hurt. This little bit of typing and time setting up the new email address has left me a cranky, screaming back, numb-handed individual with no evening dose. I am so tired of this. I would really like some allies, so if you are interested, please send me a legit email. Here's to pain control.
Contact your local State Representatives... let them know what a deal this has become... ask that they do something in the State Legislature to correct this FU.
That is what I am doing...

gem- i can tell your feeling good because when i got my roxies a while ago, ide rant like your doing and can tell your feeling good! me toooo!!! theres some hope for us...drugs are starting to become available again...i noticed last month things eased up alot everywhere.
Userfriendly, idk your location, but here in swfl it's only gotten worse. This came right from my PM Dra few months ago. At my appt last wk, there were older women in tears, bc Dr had to cut them back. These are ppl in their 60's. Dr told them he has to show dea he's cutting prescriptions. If you think it's getting better, you're mistaken, bc roxycodone and so many other c2 meds are becoming more scarce. At the person who is trying to get this problem addressed, I wish you well. There's a cpp amd advocate whose been working her tail off for cpp to be heard. They even had a rally in capital Tallahassee months back. She has notified everyone from governor to Senator to state representatives. They don't care about us. {edited for privacy}. The whole situation is a disgrace. Advice is, forget the chains, they won't help. Try to find a small pharmacy and develop a good relationship. I've been with small one for 8 months now, and bc he's gotten to know me, and have NEVER asked for med early, same Dr and insurance and being older I'm sure has helped. Still can't get roxycodone though. I get opana a vomit every night bc the 1 med that helped me the most is unattainable. Good luck and God Bless each of you

no, i guess your right at least on the street getting drugs has dried up so people must not be getting meds to sell. but i mean for me its gotten alot better since my pm doctor was shut down last summer. now im getting meds monthly, on time and no problem. im indian river county(hard here) but my dr is in pt st lucie...next county and my pharmacy is really cool. i guess im lucky
March 2013, Florida you're not ready for this.... local pharmacies in Florida will not carry oxy IR.
don't believe me ask your doctor ask your pharmacist
like we have been saying "must get oxy ir mail order" now its official. should not be any surprise. hope your insurance pays for the rx out of state.
It's been also said no online pharmacy will ship oxycodone IR into FL. My online pharmacy only carries c3 and less. I'm so sick of being sick. I with same pm dr for 3 yrs, same insurance. I'm drug tested in house every month. Every 2 months, it's sent out to lab at the price of 1,500, of which I'm responsible for 25%. Meds are $125 aonth plus office visit. All this to be prescribed something that causes nausea and severe grogginess and 50% pain relief. I'm prescribed 1 narcotic. The opana IR 10 mg. 5 a day. This whole thing is so wrong. I was getting 150 30 mg of roxycodone. I had 80% pain relief and wasn't nauseous and lethargic. The. Pm Dr will prescribe me the roxycodone. No one will fill them. I'm over it, a shell of the person I used to be, I do all I'm told, am a legitimate cpp, and can't get back the Med that gave me a quality of life. I've tried to talk to insurance, dr, no one can help. If tje pharmacist doesn't want to fill them, that's that. The pm offered to put me on opana er and ir. Id be sick and broke. Very frustrated and starting to wonder how I can go on like this long term. I can't. Peace to all of you, my heart goes out to cpp like ourselves
panic...i feel your pain and so frustrated and tired of being sick. for 10 years i was on 4 80mg oxycontin a day.(00-10) then stopped and used methadone from 2010-2011. then i had neck surgery, went to pm again needing more than ever and all these problems. got into pm with 5 30mg roxies aday with ms contin er round clock. that was till last june when he was shut down so went through wdrawl and had nothing-this is when the dr got shut down in vero bch and all us patients who are legit are suffering. today i goto dr outta county and only get 20mg oxycontin a day twice daily, and 2 10mg percocets for breakthru. so like a fifth of what i got for past 2 years and 1/10th of what i was getting for 10 years.(ill admit that was too much from 00-2010 but was doing great like you pain relief wise and had a life until he was shut down last june. now the meds i get are just enough to help edge off the pain. i cant move around like when on oxies ir. or i need higher dosage of oxycontin but i cant afford 40's. until my ssdi hearing and even then(3 more months) it takes 6mo-1year top get medicaid and medicare before i wont have to pay cash and use my insurance for basics it pays very little. needed insurance to see the doctor

sadie. i can narrow it down for you. Me and 2 friends of mine who all have insurance from a legit doctor all get 15mg roxies and i get 30mg roxies filled just this morning on this months rx and my friend got his last friday pm. There was a tight shortage for a while but have no issues. in fact the pharmacist joked with me this am and said the price went down a little this month...(said something and it made me laugh) but no issues from him he just confirms with me 30 days on the calendar before i leave each month so im on it.
indian river co, brevard co, port st lucie co, martin co, and palm beach

unfortunately chances are you're going to have major problems when you're filling your prescription(s) for multiple CII meds.
there are many reasons, I personally will not fill any prescriptions for a pain management clinic. I do not feel good they are governed enough and quite frankly will give medication to it anyone willing to pay their hi visit fees. I am NOT the only pharmacist to feels this way and that is why you run from pharmacy to pharmacy trying to get this narcotic medications filled.
sorry if I come across rude I am just being blunt.
the medications typically giving out here in Central Florida are oxycodone 30mg/15mg usually 180 tabs.
along with a long acting medication too many to list.
I am NOT your doctor, so therefore I will not judge your pain or the causes of said pain. however, I will use my judgement in dispensing medications.
I have worked at Hospice as a pharmacist and people with final stages of brain cancer and other sorts of cancer were not on even schedule 2 medications I know I know everyone's pain is different.
Just keep in mind I am your local pharmacist and it does not matter what you do what you say or how you act threaten etc.
you will not get your schedule 2 medications filled out of my Pharmacy and I am NOT the only 1 we recently had a convention in regards to the dispensing of narcotic medications.
Floridians the FREE ride is over, no more abusing medications, no more selling medication, no more having medicaid pay for your medications.
I am sorry that was rude but necessary, I will be so glad once the new government owned and operated dispensaries are in place.
take that for what its worth and to those who are truly in need if you go to a legit doctor you should not be reading this.
@user-friendly, I think most of us that have posted on this site don't know who or what drugs are on the street. I wouldn't know about such things, because anyone selling these meds to anyone should be jailed for life. If you're so lucky and getting your meds filled every month, then why are you in a forum thats topic is roxycodone shortage? Most of US aren't lucky as you put it as you are. Yes, I'm annoyed that so many US are suffering, at the hands off our own govt. So many of US have been suffering months now. @ Jem , d Ratliff is a good person, and gives it everything the has. May I suggest n half to stretch out. I do it, and it's better than skipping a dose entirely. It's pathetic this how we must live. I've been in pain mgmt for a, most 3 yrs, and getting meds filled early is something I've never done. I asked my insurance a while back if it could be done send was told yes, they'll just override it. I know it would send up red flags with pharmacist especially, so wouldn't even consider it. I've been in excruciating pain the last 5 days, I've taken 4 extra tablets in last 5 days. I'll have to cut dosage in half to make it up in next few wks. I asked Dr another 15 a month, said no problem, but decided against it, bc it could be just enough for pharmacist to say I'm not fillingfor you anymore. Dr said to ask him, I'm not going to jeopardize my relationship it's taken me months to build. That extra 1/2 med would help me a lot. Ready to give this all up for eternal peace. Just vomited again before. In bed, vomited my extra med, so here I lie sick and in pain. Life is getting more unbearable. God bless you all, and peace yo each of you.
That's not true, Molly. Maybe they are not able to send certain meds to your state, but they definitely do still ship strong narcotic meds through the mail. People on other threads post that that's all they use now. They probably do a more thorough verification than before but they ARE shipping out meds like oxycodone, opana, etc.
panicpain@ well, ive been on bot sides of the coin, when I joined here I was out of meds. like you. my dr was shut down period. in fact it only took going outta town to another dr 1 month when I went through w/drawls, pain etc cause no one would touch any of his patients even the legit ones. so now, yes I do get meds. thankl the lrd. it took the same pharmacist ive used when the dr was shut down, and tis ne wdr is in port st lucie and I am indian river county and he still fills for me every month. I am blessed.
hi.. please email me.. {edited for privacy}.. didn't see ur post until just NOW!!
THANK-YOU!!.. reason i did not see ur post until just now....is b/c i JUST now got the email that somebody responded...CRAZY. running out oof time and energy with this .. is it IRA's Pharm.?
@the 40 year old pharmacist: Im sorry, did you just gleefully (and cruelly) post the sentence "no more Medicare paying for your medications"?? As if that's a good thing? Who the hell do you think these medications were created FOR? You need to go back to one of the million pharmacy schools popping up every year if you don't know. And you need a reality check and to be knocked down off of your high horse if you think you think you've been educated adequately. Sorry to be rude, but you are obviously on an ego trip, bitter that you aren't as respected as doctors. It's clear by how big a pay cut pharmacists have taken and by how few jobs there are out there. You are a prime example of a pharmacist who does not deserve a job. There are thousands of CARING pharmacists out there looking for work who aren't on a power trip. I truly hope you lose your job and I say that because I believe you are a dangerous candidate to hold the position you do. You are not THE "local pharmacist", buddy. There are many more in your town, no doubt much more intelligent, and much less ignorant than you.
TO BETTERDAYS..... i sent u my email address did u get it.. they might have removed it??? i do not know how to get in touch with u??? I do not which place u r speaking of.. delray and i95???? oMG
