2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 48) (Top voted first)

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

For a pharmacist, you sure sound uneducated.... You sure you're not a pharmacy tech? Every pain patient I've spoken with go to pain management clinics to manage their pain with as little strong narcotics as possible, so uh....NO, they're not all "asking for" narcotics. A d you obviously have never had severe pain, seeing as you seem to think no one but people who have just had surgery a day prior need these drugs. Hopefully one day you'll learn how wrong you are. Hope it's not the hard way. What a compassionate "pharmacist" you are, thinking no one, not even cancer patients, need strong pain medication to live normal lives. This is why you're not a doctor. Leave the prescribing up to those who have been trained to do so.

what you fail to realize my friend is is the 1 that is trying to prescribed medication, is not interested in your well being he is interested in his wealth being it is all about the money in India we do not have this problem.

"pharmacist": to say all pain management clinic are illegitimate and every doctor working in one is basically a drug dealer, perhaps you should stop profiling and actually research each and every pain management clinic in the country. Guess what? I am a pain management patient who has no interest in taking prescription drugs and my doctor never offered one. In fact, he is extremely reluctant to prescribe anything stronger than vicodin to any of his patients. And this wouldn't happen in India?? Lol! You mean the country that ships millions of strong prescription drugs to other countries every year without so much as an online consult?? See any us online pharmacies shipping Xanax and 200mg tramadol anywhere? Nope. If you're so prejudiced against Americans, go work in an Indian pharmacy.

Lol, right, YOU are out for the patients best interest but ALL doctors only care about money. You're a joke and an embarrassment to the medical field. I'm going to earn my doctorate in a few months and I will tell you that I would NEVER hand out schedule medication if I did not have imaging proving excessively painful and degenerative conditions. Again, you're not a doctor!! And if you were, you would be a horrible excuse for one. You're cold, callous, selfish and completely uncaring- four characteristics that are completely unwanted in the medical community. I feel terrible for everyone who comes into your pharmacy with their legit prescriptions.

You are a callous awful person. Thank God there are good pharmacists left out there that are still willing to help chronic pain sufferer's. You're a travesty to the medical field. I wish no one harm. I hope someday you suffer like the dog you are and need pain meds and try to get them filled by someone like yourself. You're evil, and yo judge everyone as you do, you will be judged. Thank God I have developed a relationship with my pharmacist and he understands my need for 1 medication that gives me some quality of life. My insurance covers my Dr visits and my med. Now go rot somewhere until judgement day cones for you. you're less than human, you're an animal.

you are absolutely right I am NOT a doctor, but when the Florida Board of Pharmacy & the DEA let all of the pharmacists know that we are facing prosecution if we dispense this medication and something should go bad. or they simply do not want us filling medication for pain management clinics ........ guess what I'm not going to put my ass on the line goto a legitimate doctor.
if you have back problems; go to an orthopedic surgeon or if you have brain cancer go to a neurosurgeon or an oncologist. anyone coming in with prescriptions from them we will fill your medication with no problem whatsoever, to give you an example I filled a prescription on Thursday for a 39 year old patient that's was being treated by an oncologist 720 tablets oxycodone 30 mg you people do not understand it is not the medication that is the problem it is who is prescribing it pain management clinics will not get prescriptions filled in Florida .

Okay, here I go again in response to the "pharmacist." The reason I and many other patients to go "pain management" practices is because many of the other physicians don't want to prescribe pain meds and send you to a pain management physician. That's what happened to me. On top of that, the one surgeon that I could find willing to take care of the pain management rather than referring me on does not accept my insurance. So what am I supposed to do? When you figure this out "Mr. Pharmacist," you let us all know okay???

exactly you said the other dr does not want to write you the medication, that would be because they are not wanting to put the license on the line so they refer you to a pain management basically a doctor who is willing to write large amounts or heavy schedule 2 narcotic.... I will be honest you have got yourself in quite a pickle and I don't really feel that you are at fault. but honestly do you expect me to fill your prescription when I have dea people visit my pharmacy on a weekly basis to see what we have dispensed understand that I have had a chance tell me you will go to jail.... but from what I understand in the next year to year and a half there will be dispensaries set up for c2 meds

There's no way this guy is a pharmacist. Not only is he unable to string together a decent sentence, but he is telling us ALL pain management doctors are glorified drug dealers and "illegitimate", and they all pass out sched 2 narcotics like water. Wrong, yet again, fake pharmacist. Most pain clinics have stringent rules in place for all patients taking narcotic medication, where they must bring in their medication to prove they've been keeping the correct dosages, do urine tests and typically their patients have a proven history that needs to be verified in order for the doctor to prescribe something that strong. Meaning the patient must have, on file, a history with physicians prescribing weaker pain meds for a long period of time, with no sign of doctor shopping and imaging proving a condition has worsened over time. See, you are not a doctor, once again, and obviously have never worked in a pain management clinic, which means you're judgmental and complete,y ignorant opinion is based on absolutely nothing. The DEA is always trying to strong arm doctors and pharmacists into screwing over patients, but if you fill a script for a licensed physician, by law, you cannot be charged with anything. Do you think people suffering from life-altering chronic pain give a crap if you're too much of a selfish jerk and a baby to fill legit prescriptions? They would rather you lose your license a million times over than live with that kind of pain, and you really should lose your license. Cruel, uncaring people have no place in any establishment related to health and medicine. Not that pharmacists do much as it is nowadays. To be honest, you're a glorified pill counter and you're probably bitter because you thought you'd be doing meaningful work, and now you're taking it out on patients. You've contradicted yourself multiple times to the point where I'm very doubtful you are even a pharmacist, however. I'd guess maybe pharmacy tech, tops. By the way, going right to an orthopedic surgeon for back pain?? Are you insane?! That is the absolute last resort. You never, ever see an orthopedic surgeon for back pain before you've exhausted your other options. I take that back- you certainly can get a consult. But that surgeon will likely recommend surgery when ut isn't necessary yet, and clearly you are clueless as to how long recovery is and how utterly debilitating it is post-surgery for a patient. If you are a real pharmacist, you're a testament to the crappy quality of the pharmacy schools littering the country right now. You need to go back. You are not only too judgmental and cold to be working anywhere near a pharmacy, but you seem utterly devoid of ANY knowledge about medical conditions and treatments. I wish we all knew where you worked, so we could all avoid it like the plague. And like another poster who also thinks you're brainless said, you need to go back to India to see the ridiculous drug free-for-all going on over there, and then tell us "this would never happen in India". Lol!! No, Indian on,one pharmacies just ship narcotic drugs without prescriptions to anyone with the money to buy them- 6 year olds, college students with no medical need for them, whoever. Your country has contributed to the abuse of narcotics in the usa by selling them openly online more than all the pain clinics in the country combined. I really do hope your superiors wise up and fire you. I know there are hundreds of pharmacists with hearts that are desperate for work right now, and would find you just as despicable as every doctor I've talked to about you and your ridiculous, callous opinion.

Exactly right, Paula- this "pharmacist" will lose his license once someone he refused dies from abrupt withdrawal anyway, so he may as well fill prescriptions for law-abiding citizens suffering every day. Pain management clinics are VERY regulated now, so he doesn't know what he's talking about. All doctors are scared the DEA will bust them for giving out one too many prescriptions, so they've all enacted strict rules for patients whom they prescribe string narcotics to. Monthly or bimonthly drug tests, bringing in their meds for a count, etc, etc. sound like a "free ride"?! What a vapid moron. Good luck with your condition Paula, and I hope you find a CARING pharmacist in your county. Try an independent pharmacy that accepts insurance.

Alright...I said the last past was going to be my last...but you asked if we have insurance. Yes, I have insurance. Does that make a difference? Why? Do you fill for people that pay cash? That's how many of the pharmacists are...if you come in with insurance, they are conveniently "out" but if you're paying cash, amazingly, they have a good supply...of course, it will cost you about $600-$800 per 100 30 mg. oxycodone.....I have insurance, don't know about the others. As I said in one of my other posts, I don't go to the the one surgeon that would prescribe my pain meds because he doesn't accept my insurance. If he accepted the plan I am on, I would be there in a heartbeat.

For all the others posting, thanks for the support. I too follow all the rules that are very stringent. If the "pharmacist" thinks anyone on narcotic pain meds is getting a free ride, he's nuts. Every month I have to bring in proof that I actually filled my prescriptions and where I filled them. I am drug tested to make sure I take them and the doctors constantly tell me how the DEA is up their butts with new regulations almost on a monthly basis. My meds were cut by 20 per month two months ago. Not because I was getting better but because the DEA thinks the doctors should prescribe over a certain amount. Maybe some of us do take more than is absolutely necessary, however, as a "pharmacist" you should know that you body becomes immune to the affects of the medication and it doesn't work as well over a period of time. I made it last month with less and this month I'm having to tough it out with only the meds I take at night and ibuprofen. Obviously, it's not going to be a good month for me. Thanks for the support from everyone and Mr. Pharmacist, you can basically kiss my a**!!!

Amen Brim. This so called pharmacist thinks we should suffer and obviously doesn't know anything about how all pain clinics are having to operate. Yes, I have insurance, MRI's that show damage. You should do some research before u pass judgment on cpp and pain mgt Drs. Legitimate patients are being scrutinized in every wy. I didn't choose to be on pain med. It was a last option for me, I've tried many things. If you are a pharmacist, u should know there's a site a dr and pharmacist can go to and make sure the patient isn't dr shopping and or getting different meds from different drs. We are put through enough, and I will no longer let you antagonize me or anyone else here who just wants a place where they're not alone in their suffering. To all the cpp here, God bless and to the heartless sob pharmacist, you'll be judged when it's your time. Karma comes around.

A LOT of the 30's are coming to TN.I know over a hundred people who goes to FL and gets them and brings them back.This is why you have a shortage in FL.

@panicnpain: this is why I believe the "pharmacist" is actually not a pharmacist at all. Even a pharmacy tech would know that pain clinics aren't glorified drug trade centers. Pain patients are made to go through so many hoops, spend so much money and be scrutinized by arrogant, judgmental pharmacists just to get medication that has been legitimately prescribed by a licensed physician who also makes the patient follow strict guidelines. Why should a person have to suffer and be treated like a 25 year old heroin addict when they have a painful condition that is not their fault, and keeps them from comfort and happiness. These moron pharmacists and DEA agents need to all experience global arthritis for a year. Then we'll see who's denying pain meds to those who needs them!

@ Brim, well said. I don't wish suffering on anyone, but this so called pharmacist is generalizing everyone into 1 category. If he was who he says he is, he would be able to have empathy for people and realize each person is an individual and everyone's situation is different. It's sad he has a 1 track mind and thinks no one needs medication except the terminally ill. It's a sad state of affairs to treat everyone in the same manner when it comes to managing chronic pain. This only shows his ignorance and lack of empathy for a human being. Someone like this obviously has never dealt with chronic pain. If you're reading this do called pharmacist, educate yourself on learning what humanity is all about. You can't be taught how to be compassionate, you either are or you aren't. Someone like you shouldn't be in the medical field. It's frightening how many that have the same views as you. A disgrace, as I've been in the medical field for 30+ yrs, and have always tried to put myself in another's shoes before passing judgement.

if you have insurance you should be able to contact them and they should be able to find you a pharmacy that will fill your medication.

like I said any prescription with PMC-xxx is not going to be filled, sorry.

You know nothing, which proves you're no pharmacist. I get my 1 pain med filled every month by a pharmacist who cares, and am treated with respect and dignity. It's obvious you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to this subject. Thank God my pharmacist has taken the time to develop a relationship with me, and understands chronic pain and how I've expressed my gratitude of giving me back a quality of life a person deserves.

OMG!!! Mr. "Pharmacist" guy....I called my insurance company and they said well try this one or that one...they should order if for you...blah, blah, blah...they can't call to find out if a pharmacy carries it just like I can't so how the Hell are they going to tell me where to go???!!! You, again, are an ASS!!!!

@ Paula, we know that, bc I too called my insurance co last yr when this whole nightmare started with not being able to fill the roxycodone prescription. Mr pharmacist is a liar, and a fraud. Insurance co can't tell you who has meds and who doesn't. Another example of this man's lies.
