When cholestorol, hdl & ldl levels became normal, he prescribed for 3 moths; again now after lipid test which is normal he has prescribed the same dose for 3 more months. Is it needed? My medication has been changed from Zimvastatin to Atorvastatin since which time I have experienced severe pain in joints throughout my body and especially in the joints in my spine. I recently received a bottle of Atorvastatin from my pharmacy and it wreaks of the smell of alcohol. I thought it might be the medicine bottle so I put them in a different bottle and they still smell awful. I can also taste the alcohol. I take other meds and I do not taste or smell that anywhere else. I brought it back to the pharmacy and the pharmacist said he couldn't smell anything. I have since had others smell the medicine and they also smell that strong odor of alcohol. Either the pharmacist was lying to me or he had no sense of smell. I would say at least 20 people here at my home have smelled my atorvastatin and they all say they smell alcohol like the kind used for cleansing the skin before a shot. Atorvastatin is just the active ingredient in Lipitor, so it's the generic for it, but is still the same medication. I cannot swallow pills. The instructions for taking Atorvastatin says do not crush or chew. Should I continue to take it this way? ## @flatball, From what I could gather, Atorvastatin only comes in tablet form, whereas you may just have to find a way to adhere to those instructions unless your doctor suggests otherwise. Another thought is to ask your doctor if dissolving the tablets in water would be an option as well? And lastly, if none of the above is suitable for your needs, then perhaps it would be best to find another alternative to Atorvastatin that comes in different dosage forms and without restrictions as to how it can be administered. I am 41 years old. My triglycerides 225 (188), Cholestrol174 (159) LDL-114(110) and HDL-20(20R). Note with in the brackets are test dated 10-08-2010. Colestrol ## ## I have severy problems to sleep. Can Aspavor play a role in it? How can I solve the problem? ## I've been on the following drugs:warfarin,Tritace, Plavix,Norvasc,Lipitor,Ecotrin. 2 Bypasses and 2 stents have blocked completely but collateral circulation has been established. New cardiologist has now reduced drugs to Lipitor, Norvasc and Ecotrin. Actully last year my total cholestrol was 8.5 then I started ad my dictor prescribed to take for 1 year or more.
