Looking to find out the best medicine to treat schizophrenia. ## Hello, Valerie! How are you? There is really no 'best medicine' so to speak. It depends on the person and what works for them. Not all medications work for everyone that tries them, which is why they are usually several options to try in any given treatment category. For example, I have high blood pressure and while the 'best' medication for many people is Metoprolol, it made me very sick and I had to stop taking it. It also didn't significantly lower my blood pressure. That said, what medications have you tried? Some people do better with an older medication, such as Risperdal, though as reported by the FDA, it can cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, somnolence and weight gain. But others ha...

Can anyone help me? ## Wing yourself off these psychotic meds. They're bad news. Get on a good diet and get yourself some activated charcoal tablets from walmart and some niacin b-6 tablets, drink lots of water, start making yourself some healthy smoothies with spinach and fruit to help the brain mostly. They carry this at walmart in the baking isle. ## Can I ask what issue's are you dealing with before taking the psychotics? ## Hello Ping Pong, If you feel that the medical attention that your provider is giving you is inadequate then I would suggest getti...

My brother has been suffering from paranoia and delusions for about six months. He has has been a heavy drinker for several years now. And he also had an addiction of some kind which compelled him to go to a suboxone clinic to manage his life with the hopes of tapering off. Unfortunately, he never tapered off and seemed to use his strips several days if not more than a week before his next prescription. I'm not sure what happened, but eventually he started talking about people bugging his apartment, car, phone, etcetera. He also claimed that people were talking about or to him on the television or radio. Sometimes I'll get up and he will have taken the batteries out of devices and unplugged electronics because he thinks people are spying on him through them or mysteriously talki...

Another hip drug is mirtazapine. The use of seroquel is indicated for geriatric dosing - just keep it al low as possible because it makes just about anyone very sleepy especially at the lower geriatric doses.

My son is schizophrenia X11 yrs. he takes clozapine 500 mg. risperadone 6 mg, and clonazepam 4 mg. he takes all of this at night and has been for 7 yrs. this past wk he has suffered a MAJOR relapse. I brought him to see his shrink to day and he ups his risperadone to 8 mg. My son sets up his meds in a wk long med box, I check them just by counting the pills and knowing the colors. As I was preparing his meds tonight I noticed there were an awful lot of clozapine left in the bottle. Upon further checking I realized he had been taking 5 (1mg) tablets of clonazepam instead of clozapine! The 2 pills almost are identical. So he was accidentally off his clozapine for 1 wk, this explains his super bad relapse. I decided to give him 100mg of cloz(instead of his usual 500mg dose) he ways 250lbs....
