I am 93 and have severe back and neck pain. I had back surgery 15 years ago after a back injury causing back and leg pain. After surgery, the leg pain went away but I still suffer from lower back pain. For a long time I would see the doctor who did my surgery every six months and he would give me a mega shot of cortisone on each side of my lower back which helped the back pain. Since then we moved to Orlando about 130 miles away from the doctor, but now I do not drive since I use a walker. My family doctor has given me hydrocodone-acetaminophen 5/325 and it helps some. I also sometimes take tylenol. Is it safe to take it with the other medication? Thanks for any help you can give me. ## No, you should not combine Tylenol with the Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen, since they both contain Acetam...

Beserol was prescribed for me recently due to my spinal condition which showed via (x-rays) that the last four vertebrates were almost lying on each other. No separation between. Plenty pain. The Beserol prescribed: Reformulated methocarbamol 500mg, acetaminophen 350mg (white, oval-shaped tablets, 10 to a card). I am also placed on ibuprofen...Mydocalm, Omeprazole. The question: Is is OK to take Beserol in the breach, when the pain is on? ## The first problem I see here is that you really shouldn't be taking the Acetaminophen in the Beserol, with the Ibuprofen. They are both nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, so there is really no need for 2 of them. It is very easy to overdose, by taking too much, plus taking them both can aggravate some of the severe side effects, such as...

I was on 30mg of mitprtazipine for 18 months, I came off them at the end if January as I could not stand the terrifying nightmares I was having, since then I have suffered with a fatty liver and chronic lower back, pain between my shoulder blades and muscle pain, have tried all methods of relief, chiropractor , osteopath, massage and all kinds of pain relief, nothing so far is having any effect , would like to know if anyone else has suffered anything similar. ## Hi Liz, First and foremost, be aware that all thoughts and opinions expressed are based on my research and should not be mistaken for medical advice. I am not a doctor nor a pharmacist. all medical questions should be answered by a licensed pharmacist or doctor. I am truly sorry to hear about all that you have been through. I h...

I recently had a major cervical and spine surgery. But still the pain is very severe with me taking 20mg of oxycodone every 3 hrs plus 1000 mg of Tylenol Extra every 6 hrs. What do you suggest? ## Hello, Salem! How are you? You may want to try asking your doctor about trying Oxycontin, it's a time released formulation of the Oxycodone that lasts for 12 hours, so it could give you better pain control. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

If you have any more questions or concerns, please post back and I will be happy to help you. ## Can this v 36 01 oblong be a very very bright yellow and also thick, rather than light yellow and thinner? ## Yes light yellow with v and 3601 I've saw the bright yellow not this one

"Purdue Pharma recently announced it is conducting clinical trials on OxyContin in children. Immediately some have criticized, suggesting that the exposure to opioids at an early age will inevitably lead to addiction later in life. The larger issue that was missed is that there are times opioids are necessary for children. Children in intensive care units, emergency rooms, post operatively or in rehab often require strong analgesics. These are children with cancer, with severe burns, with sickle cell anemia or other conditions. It would be cruel and inhumane to leave children untreated who experience extraordinary amounts of pain. Of course opioids should not be the first line of therapy if an alternative is available, but they may be the only way to provide relief. So the question ...

I had shingles which left me with severe nerve pains. The doctor kept on prescribing epletin for the past five months. Will it eventually help on completely getting rid of the pain? ## If it hasn't done so after 5 months, there's not much of a chance that it's going to and you should talk to your doctor about trying something else. Most medications reach their full effectiveness in the body after just 4 to 6 weeks and you are long past that time period. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have two ruptured disk in my lower back and I have two curves in my spine very bad severe pain but I go to hospital they want to give me morphine but I'm allergic to morphine what else can they give they say there isn't anything else ## Hello, Lulu! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. Of course there are other options, many hospitals actually prefer Dilaudid, now. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, they don't have to give you the Morphine, or anything else. If you have severe pain, they'd prefer you to see a specialist regularly for proper treatment. Do you have a PCP that could...

I have had a bad spinal injury since 2009. I constantly suffer in pain everyday. I have good days and bad days basically some where the pain is more tolerable then others. I have several ruptured discs in my lower back as well as nerve damage and found out last summer I also have damage to a few vertebrae in my TSpine now as well. An also have arthritis in my spine. I also have severe degenerative disc disease. I have gotten many epidural cortizone shots over the years. My problem is I have a very low threshold for pain. I need spinal fusion surgery, a discetomy and a laminecotmy. However I have gone to see several spine surgeons for opinions and the one that came the most highly recommended refuses to do surgery as he told me it is very risky and there is a high risk of my being in wor...

I severely damaged my lower back this morning. I have had back pain for some years now. I went and saw my Dr today who prescribed me Endone and Meloxicam 15mg, my Dr is aware that i suffer stomach pain when i take anti inflammatory medication. He did advise me that these tablets are okay to take. I am unsure what to do as I do have stomach ulcers, and I need the inflammation in my back to go away. ## Hello, Debbie! How are you? Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, so it can cause stomach irritation and ulceration, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache and increased risk of bleeding. Thus, it may be best to take it with an antacid to protect your stomach, if your doctor approves of your doing so. Is there anything else I can help with? ## T...

Hi I took 1tylenol4 2 to3 hours ago for severe back pain is it OK to take 1 10\325 norco ## Hello, Dawn! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in so much pain. However, since they are both narcotics that are coupled with Acetaminophen, it would be best not to mix them, without your doctor's approval. It could result in an overdose. The FDA warns that these medications have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I have been using vicodin for 2 years prescribed by the same Doctor. It is the only thing that keeps me mobile and active with a better quality of life. Everyone in my family and everyone who I work with know I've been using this and comment on how much better I'm walking (I have a bad limp in my right leg). I have not abused the prescription, I signed a Pain Management Contract, get it from only one pharmacy and have followed all of the rules. I have never gone over the allowed dose of 1 to 2 tabs a day as needed - 7.5-300. In April a UA was done and it came back negative which is absolutely impossible but because of this I have been dismissed from the pain management contract I've tried reaching out to a few pain management doctors to no avail. I feel like a criminal for a...

I have severe migraines I am currently taking 100 mcg of Duragesic patch changed every 48 hours and 5 10mg Vicodin. I have have bad reactions to preventative medications, chiropractic antidepressants and have built up a tolerance to pain meds. My pain is so severe I can't keep my food down. Does any one know if there is a higher dosage of Duragesic/Fentynal that would help with the pain. I am miserable and so sick I don't want to get up. ## Ask your doctor for vistaril it will cut that nausa down . It is both drugs giving you the nausea but you have to eat something .. Soup.. Canned broth ## Durgesic does come in higher doses. I've heard if 250 mcg. Be aware if you get a terminally ill disease such as cancer, this is what is used to treat it. Nothing stronger. ## I have canc...

I have a severe tooth ache that came on Friday night during our campout. Just got home Sunday morning and it is getting so bad I can't sleep. I found a bottle of propoxy n apap 100 650 tab medicine that was prescribed in 09. It says to discard after 7/28/09. I am desperate for some relief. Is it unsafe? My dentist won't be in until tomorrow. ## Hello, Nola! How are you feeling? I am very sorry about the toothache. No, this medication is not safe to take. All drugs containing Propoxyphene and its relatives were removed from the market several years ago, because it was found to be cardiotoxic and many people suffered adverse events, some of which were fatal. This is one that you really need to just toss out. If the pain is severe, you can go to your nearest ER and they should be a...

I have a severe hip pain when I set down it does not hert when I walk and lay down it is bad pain ## Have you consulted your doctor? If the pain is only occurring, when you lay down, there's a chance that it's some type of nerve compression from a spinal problem. The NIH lists other possible symptoms as including numbness and tingling. Are you on any medications?

QI am looking for a good mild/moderate narcotic for break through pain . I am allready on hydro/norco 10/325 and it only las about 3-4 hours and thenn wears off. Any sugestions. Three bad dis in neck and fibromyagia with severe migranies i think being put out of me out misery would be better lol. ## Hi vonda, Based on your description, I get the sense that you may want to ask your doctor about trying an extended release pain medication, for something that lasts a lot longer than 3-4 hours. A few different options in that category are: AVINZA capsules are a modified-release formulation of morphine sulfate indicated for once daily administration for the relief of moderate to severe MS CONTIN (another variation of morphine sulfate) is an opioid agonist product indicated for the management ...
