Hi I have been on oxycodone since 2009 after a back op. I'm just at the end of my tether and don't no how to deal with life anymore!!! My doctors a joke and doesn't want to know! I just wanna know if I could stop slowly and deal with my back pain or stop suddenly and go thru the pain which I've never done!!! My body lets me know if my tablets late. In fact I need it before the 12 hours are up. Any advice would be cool. ## Hello, Peter! How are you? A slow taper would be best, to help prevent the worst of the withdrawal symptoms. As listed by the U.S. FDA, they may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, rebound pain, anxiety and diarrhea. What dosage do you currently take? ## Hi, thanks for the reply. My script is 10 x 4 oxynorm but using more at min 20 ml couple o...

I was prescribed oxycodone 5 milligrams every 2 hours for pain. How addictive is that? What do I need to expect when I stop it or should I back of off it slowly? I've only been taking it for 1 month. ## Ok for real, i wouldn't worry about it at all. If u are prescribed for an acute injury or pain take as directed. I am an addict because of pain management for a chronic condition. I would check your script directions though. Its usually 1-2 pills every 4-6 hours, not two. But your dose is very low and unlikely to cause u a problem. In comparison i was taking 60-90 milligrams every 4-6 hours. Its deadly amounts and a ten year tolerance. Keep talking to your doc about your concerns with taking the drug. When u stop telling your doctor the truth or stop asking him questions is the m...

Opioid dependence is a medical diagnosis characterized by an individual's inability to stop using opioids (morphine, heroin, codeine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, etc.) even when objectively it is in his or her best interest to do so. In 1964 the WHO Expert Committee on Drug Dependence introduced "dependence" as "A cluster of physiological, behavioural and cognitive phenomena of variable intensity, in which the use of a psychoactive drug (or drugs) takes on a high priority. Hi I'm in the U.K. And been on oxycodone for just over 2 years. Prior to this I was taking MST morphine. I lost me mum at the end of last year and whilst she was ill in the hospital I was waiting for a 2nd operation on my L2 disc. At the time I was really low and took a 10 mil ER to make my mood better, not really for pain, which was a mistake as I'm now taking too much this way. I'm really at a crossroads in my life and feel mood swings daily! I need to get a grip before it's too late! If I didn't have children I probably would already be gone to be honest! I'm hoping for a reply off someone who's been in similar situations and can give me a positive outlook for the future! Please help me. I'm seriously lower than a snakes belly and take more and more as...

i have been going to pain management for 6 years and taking 6 30 mg, 10 15 mg oxycodone and 1 a day of fentora 400 mg. now i am thinking about going to suboxone. i can't bear the w/d and thought sub would take care of it. but i see different outcomes for different people. i have got to do something, it's destroying my life and any and everything in it....HELP!!! ## Are you addicted, or just dependent on them? There is a difference, because addiction occurs when someone likes how they feel from the side effects of a medication, but since side effects wear off as your body gets used to a medication, they have to keep taking higher, and higher doses to get them back. If you are only taking them as prescribed, and not abusing them, then you are only considered to be dependent. Stopp...

How long can my sister take this 5 mg oxycodone w/500 mg tylenol med safely? She just had surgery to re-align fractures in both her radius & Luna and replace her shattered elbow. Her pain level is extremely high (rating 1 to 10, she is a 15) ## How long she can safely take it is entirely up to her doctor. The FDA does warn that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. However, currently, there are no doses on the market that contain more than 325mgs of Acetaminophen. Are you sure of what she's taking? Did you mean her ulna? Is she on any other medications?

My son has a very severe drug addiction to pain med. He has turned to one of the strongest on the street and is now using needles. He has really hit bottom and wants to quit. Someone told him about Suboxone and said that it would help him to break his addiction. Is it a safe drug to use to quit, or does it only replace one addiction for another? Can a family practitioner prescribe the drug if it is safe? ## I have taken Suboxone for almost 3 years now. It has saved my life. I do consitter it a wonder drug. I never used the needle, but I did have a nasty Oxycottin addiction. I would recomend Suboxone to anyone who has a opiate addiction. They have nothing to loose but the addiction. A normal family doctor can not perscribe Suboxone. He has to be a addictionoligist. Some family doctors ca...

Hi, Last year May my wife had kidney problems which caused her severe pain, she was prescribed oxynorm 10 mg to be taken through the day and ended up on 60mg slow release to be taken morning and night as well as amatryptoline at night. She eventually had her operation end of September, as she got better the doctor she was seeing slowly weened her off the slow release whihc she no longer takes, she is now only on the 10mg oxynorm and amatryptoline. We went to the Doctor last week as she has been vomiting 2 or 3 times a day for a few months now and has little or no apetite, her period is also very irregular and she didnt' have one for about 10 months, this was put down to the medication, we were told to wait till we see the surgeon that week as the doctor felt it may be related to the...

My Son, who has Cancer, has been taking Oxycodone, 30mg for a little over a year, he says when he is out of his meds, he feels washed out, no energy, he hurts in his legs and body, and so tired. His Dr. cut his Prescription from 120 a month to 60 a month. Does this sound like he's addicted? I think so. Thank you all. ## Actually, from what you've described, that would be considered dependence, not addiction. Dependence can happen with any medication that someone takes for a long period of time, whether it be a narcotic or a blood pressure medication. It just means that their body has gotten used to having that substance added, so it reacts if that substance is suddenly removed, because it basically forgets how to work without it and it takes awhile for it to readjust. Addiction,...

Searching the internet, a biotech company in Australia has developed an oxycodone patch that delivers oxycodone via a patch. Controlled release so minimal euphoria and near impossible to extract. Much smaller amounts of opioid needed to achieve the same therapeutic results as well. Proof of concept trials on racehorses showed 100% success rate. For details: phosphagenics.com/documents/PhosphagenicsTopicalOxycodonePatchAlleviatesPaininRacehorses.pdf or slideshare.net/IAH100/iah-global-oxycodone-press-release-22-may-2014 Very promising stuff ## Hello, Irma! How are you? Thank you for your very informative post. This could be a fantastic breakthrough that may help many! This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, diz...

I have been on 20mg of oxycontin and 10mg of oxycodone for pain and I had rotator cuff surgery 5 weeks ago. I thought I'd cut back on the meds and experienced the withdrawals. Now I'm not sure what to do? I need the pain meds for my physical therapy so going off them isn't possible although I think I'm tolerant and it hardly works for my pain after p.t. I'm seeing my pain management Dr. on Wednesday and I'm not sure what I should do? Ask for help cutting back, increase the dose but not 3 times daily? I just don't know? . ## Hello, Robin! How are you? I'd suggest just discussing the problem with your PM doctor and let them present ideas for solutions, such as a dosage increase or medication change. Doing it that way helps prevent them from viewing you as a...

Hi evrybody, i've recently been blessed with a son, but if we rewind back i was injured at a young age (18) however i still live with this chronic pain to this day, i've had an upper lapendectomy amongst other procedures to help my back, however i've been prescribed hydrocodone since then, i'm now 24 years old and can eat enough to kill a rhino, I have this new blessing in my life and i want to be there for him, however the days i don't have painkillers the pain is simply too much to deal with, i've been hearing about suboxon, so i've checked the internet, will it help with my pain? i have shooting pains down my legs due to nerve damage and what i believe was a botched surgery, things are'nt good on all fronts, i NEED to be here for my son, but i also nee...

I have a rheumatoid condition and am prescribed both Oxycodone and Tramadol. I alternate between them, not wishing to become addicted. What I'm unsure of is whether they are different enough chemically to prevent my body getting too used to either one. I also take a day off here and there, but I just feel very wary. I have to do pain management, but I just want to verify that taking Oxycodone one day and Tramadol the next doesn't strike my body chemically as being the same thing. Many thanks for any helpful response! ## There is a difference between addiction and tolerance of pain medicines. When you regularly take almost any medication your body can build up a tolerance to the medicine, which will leave a chronic pain patient need dosage adjustments. This is the reason the pain...

I'm taking 80 mg of Oxyicodone and 1 mg Xanax daily. How many Tramidol do I have to take to get off these drugs. I was diagnosed with cancer but am cancer free right now. Please help. ## I read that tramadol helps with withdrawals from Oxicodone. I take 80 mg per day. I also have 2 .5 mg of Xanax per day. I was diagnosed with cancer and it hasn't come back yesterday but everyday is a panic to find if its returned. I'd appreciate any help. I want to be freed from this drug. ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? It would be best for you to get medical assistance with stopping it. As to using the Tramadol, it can help in some cases, but it is a very mild opioid and also carries its own risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry m...

Hello, I have taken 10/325 Percocet for over 12 years now. Up until I was in my 3rd car accident recently, I got by with 30 pills every 3-4 months. After, my MRI showed 3 herniated discs-2 in neck 1 in lower back and rather extreme arthritis in my whole spine. I got to where I could not do much more than sit in a chair with ice / hot packs for a month or so, but was still afraid of addiction, so I just took 1 10/325 in the am and 1 at about 4:30pm. Then, my family Dr sent me to a pain doctor and he put me on 2 - 10/325 am and 1- 1 1/2 at around 3-4pm and more at night, if needed. I get by with the above schedule and don't take any at night-just 2 times a day. My question is: Taking these every day now for 9 months, I would assume I would have an addiction? How does that work? Assumi...

I have had a problem with opiates going back to 2006 starting with vicodin following shoulder surgery. My usage progressed to Percocet, fentanyl, OxyContin, suboxone - clean for 2.5 years, relapse on tramadol, back on suboxone for 2 years, jumped at 2mgs and now weening with kratom. To say it has been a journey is an understatement. I am not naive enough to think that using kratom means I'm "clean" from opiates. It is filling my receptors just like the rest an it's time for me to stop. I've been actively trying to stay clean for about a year now. I no longer chase the high, I just run from WDs. I've gone through them more times to count and only once pulled through and stayed clean for longer than a week or 2. I actually was clean for almost 3 years following my ...

I Have been taking some form of opiates since I was 15. Im 29 years old now. I started with vicodin then graduated to percs. Soon after that I was 18 and taking oxicodin. When the oxies just weren't enough anymore I began to take H. I took H for about 2 years on and off and then was told through a friend about subxone. After 7 years being on subxone I finally realized, I had a major problem. My problem was me. I needed off the subxone so bad. I had already been to treatment 3 times in my life. Once for the vicodine ,once for the oxycodone once and for the H. I haven't gone back to any of those since. Once at treatment for the 4th time I felt ashamed to be there. But all I knew is I was done and didn't want to ever go back to any mind or mood altering substance ever again. On...
