I'm overweight and have severe knee pain..I can't take loratabs or anything with codeine because of itching and nausea...1/2 of oxycodone 30mg gets rid of my pain with no itching or nausea..why does this occur if they are both similar as far as being opiates? Also, is it OK to take oxycodone during the day and somas for my pain at night as they help me sleep? ## Different medications affect people differently. There is really no other explanation for it. Is a tec 30 stronger than a percocet 5? Is taking a tec 30 the same as taking a percocet 30? ## If I am not mistaken TEC 30 contains 30 mg of Codeine, whereas a Percocet 5 contains 5 mg of Oxycodone. As far as comparisons go I had a look at the Equianalgesic table and it's showing that Codeine is 1/10th the relative strength of Morphine, where as Oxycodone is 1.5 times stronger than Morphine. So to break that down ... 30 mg of Codeine ≅ 3 mg of Morphine ... 5 mg of Oxycodone ≅ 7.5 mg of Morphine. In other words, a Percocet 5 is over twice as strong as 30 mg of Codeine.

Hi, I've been taking codeine phosphate, or co-proxamol, dihydrcodeine, etc. for 16 years for necrotic arthritis and lower spine damage/trapped nerves, etc. Two questions. What would be a sensible amount of oxycodone for a doctor to prescribe? Mine reckoned 2 x 5mg daily and they had no effect what so ever.. Second question, if I sleep more than 4 hours at any time, day or night, even if I take 2 x 30 mg dihydrocodeine as I fall asleep, I wake up hyper-ventilating. I was dispensed my Oxycodone refill and I'm wondering why it is different. Now it's a small round white pill with a weird shaped M, a scored line, and a 3 on it. My mom is 75 years old and has never really had to take opiate pain killers in the past. She doesn't even take them after a root canal. However, her hip started giving her trouble about 2 years ago, but just now is having so much pain that she has to take at least one pain pill so she can get up.
