Xarelto Fluid Retention (Page 4)

Updated

I had to take Xarelto due to two sinus venous thrombosis in my head. 8 weeks of heparin injections showed no side effects. But with the first day of taking Xarelto my body reacted by retaining water. Within the first three weeks I gained 24.46 lb hill exercising 5 times a week and eating as I always did. After retaining more and more water I stopped taking it after three months. I started with a weight of 120 lb at a height of 5''8 and now I weigh 157 lb. I have to ad that I started taking it in the middle of March and stopped taking it at the end of June. I was not able to loose any water/weight. I eat less than I always did before even while I exercise. All doctors couldn't find the one thing that changed through Xarelto. Has anybody ever experienced something like this while taking Xarelto??

I'm experiencing another possible symptom caused by stopping Xarelto, in addition to fluid retention/weight gain. I stopped taking it in mid-Sept. Since about 4 weeks ago, I have been plagued by repeated superficial clots in one leg. I haven't had clots like this for 20 years and only when I was training for a marathon & flying a lot. I hesitate to start a diet (with increased Vit K) until things stabilize. I've been taking 6-8 325mg aspirin/day to help with minimal success. Thoughts?

I am going to try self lymph massage on my abdomen and legs to see if that stimulates the lymph system to get rid of this excess fluid... We shall see

In addition to keeping my calories under 1000/day & jogging I have also been sitting in a sauna 30 min/day & getting weekly professional massages. I have filed adverse event claims with Xarelto & jansen pharmaceuticals which is the company who manufactures Xarelto. If enough of us come forward something will have to be done.

I filed with FDA the other day. Did you get any answers from all your testing?

I've been taking Xarelto since I developed A Fib in Feb. I have gain weight steadly since then. 2 mos ago I developed stomach problems from Xarelto and they took me off of it. In one month i lost 15lbs. without even trying and I'm up to 22 lbs lost. I have no intention of getting back on it.

Hey for all who are following this thread hoping for a breakthrough I don't have one as yet but I have been doing 3 new things for the last 8 days in addition to everything else. 1. I started taking b complex 100 solgar brand, 1 tbl spoon raw organic apple cider vin in water at night b4 bed (its supposed to stimulate the lymphatic system & detoxify the blood) & putting my legs up a wall for 15 min -night to attempt to drain the fluid from my legs so that it can be processed. (Also a lymphatic stimulator) I am optimistic about these new things. I hope they will begin to kickstart movement for all who read this. Good luck to all.

Hi! I've been on Xarelto since Feb. for A Fibs. I suffered first with swelling & my Dr. put me on a diuretic & potasssium and that help. No matter how much I diet, i could not lose weight. in fact igained. I was so stress. Two months ago my primary dr did blood work & said I was anemic & low on iron & ask my cardiologist to take me off the Xarelto temp til we could do some tests which I'm in the process of finishing up. After a month went back & I had lost 15 lbs in a month. Wow! Til now I have lost 22 lbs. in all & may have bleeding in my stomach from this med. I'm not going back on that Xarelto. There are other meds out there that I can take for my condition.

I'm checking in again w/everyone. I've waited to post b/c I've truly been doing everything I can for a few weeks now & im just not receiving any substantial results. I have noticed the slightest difference in my overall distribution of weight but the dimplie appearance of my thighs & abdomen is still present. It's like I am unable to build muscle. I swear I have racked my brain for an epiphany into what has changed w/in the cells of my body but I continue to be stumped. All tests have come back normal. Is anyone having any luck on this forum? I need some good advice here.

The one thing that made a small difference for me was the caudal injection which of course contains a hefty dose of steroids... It pulled off about 5 pounds in just a few days... I have managed to lose about one more pound with the tumeric and something called cleavers which also helps with the fluid... And tastes like tea.. Any way will never stop trying and if I find anything else that helps at all will be certain to post it here
Good luck

I started Xarelto 10 days ago and I can tell I've gained weight in my abdomen. A quick Google search helped me find this site. The swelling in my calf from my DVT has subsided as has the pain. Can I stop the Xarelto and switch to baby aspirin or do I have to stay on this crap for 6 months? I'm in the Navy so gaining this weight isn't an option!!

I wish I could tell you that would be OK... But you need to talk to the doctor... Maybe go in armed with a print out of this site for some ammunition to support your complaint. Maybe he will switch you to something else like good old warfarin... I went to dr Appleby at coastal vascular and vein in Charleston and when I mentioned what was happening he acted like I was crazy but clearly be evidence of this site there is a problem. Also you need to submit a complaint on the FDA website so maybe they will figure out what this evil drug had done to us. Don't quit it though as you have to get rid of that clot... Too dangerous not to.

I have Afib and had to take coumadin. I was also taking a diuretic for water retention. My dr now switched me to xarelto and within the first week of taking this new drug I lost almost 10lbs (all water, had to pee at night every 2 hours so my sleep is interrupted) but I have twice the energy than being on coumadin. You might need a diuretic for fluid retention. I experienced the same weight gain when placed on eliquis but quickly switched back to coumadin). I just wanted to share my experience with you. I do not know if you take a diuretic. I was put on it twice a day (diazide). It does not deplete your body of potassium which could cause major leg cramps.

Yes I am on a diuretic for blood pressure and fluid retention but that did not prevent the problem .now I am on xeralto and tolerate it much better. Coumedin is the worst. Was on it for almost 4 years had no energy nor apetite and only ate to survive. A terrible drug that should be banned now with all the new blood thinners out there. But had a stroke 4 years ago so coumedin was my only savior to prevent further strokes when in afibulation. Only had a few occurrences with afibulation and was shocked back into normal sinus rhythm, so feel now energized and hope I will further tolerate xeralto.

I have been on Xarelto for one year and noticed the bloating and fluid in my legs and ankles I gained weight yet I eat healthy diet and cannot figure out why I'm gaining weight and cannot get rid of the fluid so I went off the Xarelto instead of baby aspirin it's only been two weeks but I still don't see any difference I don't know what the Xarelto did to me the doctors don't understand and of course they think that you eat so much to gain the extra pounds no one seems to believe when you tell him that you eat healthy I started over exercise program hoping it will help I'm going to see a foot doctor to see if he has any answers my feet swell so much I don't know what else to do anyone else has any answers please let me know good luck to all of you.

I'm so sorry Linda, we are all going through the same situation. Dr's don't acknowledge the permanent or at least semi permanent weight gain even after being off xarelto. It has been exactly 6 months since I have been off xarelto. My body is still not how it was b4 I started. We need to band together & form a legal suit against the company. Something happened to our bodies & someone should be held accountable. I'm sick of this!! Who's in??

I totally agree! I am so upset about the weight gain caused by this horrible medicine! I am in the Navy and I have to weigh in every 6 months and I could possibly lose my pension as a result of gaining this much weight. I have only been on Xarelto for 1 month and I have gained 17 pounds. It scares me that I might not be able to lose this weight! WTH!
