I after a divorce, rape, etc. started having really bad anxiety attacks, depression, etc. I went to the doctor she put me on 2 mg. klonopin, I had started on .5 mg but they didn't seem to help so she upped the dose. I have been on klonopin, for almost 3 years, I have suicidual thoughts now, am in a deep depression, told her so she put me on a mild antidepressant with the klonopin, all I do is cry, cry, I tried to go off the klonopin, on my own, couldn't sleep, sweats, jerky movement, my fingers actually curled up, but I do not have insurance so I can't keep going to the doctors can someone help me, I know I am addicted I know I need to get off this drug its making me more and more depressed, I need help. Memory is gone.

I was prescribed clonaepam @ 2mg daily and becoming depressesed I quit and in four days I had a Mini Mal seizure luckily with a doctor friend present, which is ironic because I had to start taking them because of a mis- diagnoses of seraquil which caused a 7.5 minute Grand mal seizure while in hospital CARE...now I have been taking 1 to 1.5 mg at night only since 2007 and I want to stop I have had no siezures, and losing weight, am restless, and wish to stop with adding substituting drugs HOW DO I DO THIS~ PLEASE ADVISE

I would like to know that answer too I have weaned down from 2mg to 1mg over two flippin' years but I am now under 100 lbs and an insomniac and I can't get below without worse withdrawl symptoms like extreme weight loss, constant digestive disorders, serious mood swings and depressive thinking each time I try to reduce further. I am told by a friend with a few Pharmacoloy degrees to go VERY slow from here...reducing no more than 1/8 of my current dosage at a time /holding for two-three months each time / I'm told Never wean alone, or serious consequences can result~WELL I AM ALONE SO THEN WHAT!!! BE AN ADDICT~ NOT ACCEPTABLE THERE SHOULD BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THE RX COMPANY that makes it BUT REPUBLICAN and Pharmaceutical Lobbist in WASHINTON has ELIMINATED OUR RIGHT TO SUIT IN CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT as of 2011~ and AMERICA Voted For~ IT WE Screwed Ourselves By Not paying attention to what they are doing...SO we are a Nation of JUNKIES~ that really makes me angry! A Doctor did this to me.

1 mg a day is not a large dose. I take 6mg. That is considered a high dose. High doses for a long period and then going cold turkey is not just miserable, but there is a possibility of having convulsions, such are more commonly equated with barbiturates. But..yes you are right, a slow tapering is the appropriate way to wean off benzos. Carl

What you are going through will subside over time. I took myself off of Effexor 4 years ago.9used a calendar and tricked my body) The left side of my face was numb for a year. Once in a while I still get sensation. I came on this site because y sister takes to many pills. The doc keep giving her more and she doesn't get off the old stuff.

@ John: Are you still having heart problems? I have just finally gotten off of my last dose of Klonopin a few weeks ago (took me over 4 months to get off of 2mgs! And the whole time was like a living hell!) I am still having heart palpitations all day and night and feel like someone is sitting on my chest, hard to breathe. For some weird reason, everytime I sleep (whether it be at night, or if I doze off in a chair for five minutes!) I wake up in a panic attack and my chest burns and my heart pounds. I feel like I'm having a heart attack! I've asked my family doctor if this is damaging my heart and she says no, but, I find this very hard to believe, since it has gone on for months. This is a very evil drug and I would like to hunt down the bastard doctor that put me on this. He was from the local county mental health center and they change their psychiatrists like they change underwear! Everytime I express anger over what happened they whine, "Well, it helps some people!" No one ever warned me how hideous it would be to get off of this drug, or that it was addictive. If I ever find the bastard I'll ship him back to his native country on the first boat. (After I beat him senseless!)

I was first prescribed paxil, in 2003, in 2004, I became suicidal and was hospitalized...the hospital shrink gave me seraquil against my will and I suffered a GRAND MALL SEIZURE... then they switched me to Klonipin/ clonazapam to control the seizures which I NEVER HAD BEFORE (I am allergic to Dilatin and other seizure drugs) and for my depression which obviously worsen after a 7.5 minute Grand Mal Seizure, caused BY DOCTORS TREATING ME~ NOW since 2004...I am addicted to Clonazpam stuck at 1.5mg down from 2, and every time I decrease further I get severe pain, stiffness in my neck, spine, migraine headaches, insomnia, sustained major loss of appetite and weight (am under 100 lbs now from 120lbs), and severe mood swings HELP ME PLEASE

Debra, (CBT) Cognitive behavioral therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach, a talking therapy.

This definition of CBT(Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is from About.com: CBT: A type of psychotherapy (or "talk therapy") that is based on the theory that psychological symptoms are related to the interaction of thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. In cognitive behavioral therapy, the therapist and patient will work on identifying and directly changing thoughts and behaviors that may be maintaining symptoms. Cognitive behavioral therapists often assign homework for the patient to complete outside of sessions. One variation of cognitive behavioral therapy that is used to treat borderline personality disorder is "dialectical behavior therapy." (This is often abbreviated DBT).

Debra, I have been tapering off of Clonazepam since October. I was on Pristiq also. I weaned myself off of that without the help of my family Doctor. The Clonazepan is another story. I was on 0.25 mg. 3x a day for 6 years. I am down to a .025 now, just at bedtime. When I drop down, I do it for four weeks at a time. Next the plan is 0.125 every night at bedtime for four weeks. Then every other night. This is a very slow process. Be patient, and listen to your body. I have been keeping what I call "My Benzo Journey Journal". I pray alot. I listen to K-Love, I listen to empowering Christian videos, I go to Church, and read my Bible. I would never be able to do this on my own. I feel like I have a demon inside me and I want it out! I WILL come out on the other side of this with God's help. I will then tell everyone I know to NEVER get on these drugs again! I will pray for you both, and if there is anything we can do to stop this drug abuse please let me know!

Rita, I forgot to mention that I went to a man that practices holistic medicine. I have replaced the drugs I was on with herbs. I take some 5HTP 100 mg. a day for the serotonin and and other vitamins that my Dr. wanted me on. I have physical therapy for my neck and back pain, which is getting better. I get massages. I am exercising, drinking distilled water with lemon, taking Epson salt baths just to detox my body. I was wondering if you would do a detox for your liver or just a whole body detox to get the rest of it out of you. I also was wondering if you looked into some Kava-Kava which is a good anti-anxiety herb. Our bodies were not made to put this bad medicine in it. It only stands to reason that vitamins and herbs are the way to go. Talk to someone and see if this will help. Like the Holistic guy told me "if it doesn't grow on a plant, or tree, or in the ground, don't put it in your mouth." Makes sense to me!

Tonight my psychologist gave me the address for NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings to learn the 12 Step Program. He just warned me that I (a 51 year old grandma who's never even had a traffic ticket) might be uncomfortable with some of the people who are pretty hard core and have been in and out of prison etc. Luckily, I worked in a factory nights for a few years at the kind of place where they don't do drug tests so you can imagine who I worked with. I found that a lot of those folks never had much of a chance in life to start with and that the pain we shared made us have more in common than not. I don't think I'll have any problems. Wish me luck! :-)
