The only way then, that we're going to get these poisons off of the market is through bad publicity. We have to find someone in the mainstream media who will publish all the bad accounts about this drug and the name of it's maker until they can't stand the bad press anymore. I don't know if that's feasible and, look at what Erin Brockovich went through for being a whistle blower, but, if we could save some people the misery we have suffered (and are still suffering) it would be worth it.

I am a 51 year old woman who has been on anit-depressants and clonazepan for 6 years. I was numb to everything around me because the medication tells you how to feel. I was out of touch with everything around me not to mention tired all of the time. I could sleep anytime I wanted too and I was missing out on my life. I have 6 beautiful grand-daughters and I could have cared less that they were even around. Around Christmas I had been thinking how out of touch I was with everything and everyone around me and I went to my family Dr. and told him I wanted off of ALL my medication. I weaned myself off of my anti-depressant, but the Clonazepan was another story. I thought I could wean myself off of it but did I have an eye opener. I was on 0.5 mg 3x a day. I then cut down to 0.5 mg 2x a day, then only a 0.5 at bedtime to start. I started cutting the 0.5 in half and started taking that for a week, then ran out. Thought I could do it myself, a week without any and I would be fine. BIG MISTAKE! It was the longest, worse week of my life. I had a wrestling match with Satan going on. I felt like evil was in my body. It actually smelled from the withdrawl. I couldn't sleep all week not even a twilight sleep. I lost my sense of smell and taste. I was trembling so bad I couldn't stop. Could not eat, I felt like I was outside my body. All I wanted to do was bath because I wanted it out of me. I was ready to go to the hospital but I knew they would fill me up on meds again, and I came so far I didn't want to start over. I ended up calling the Dr. on a Sat. for a new scrip and a new plan. Please do not go cold turkey! This takes a long time to get off of. I started a plan with 0.5 mg at bedtime for 4 weeks. Then I halfed the 0.5 as it was scored to get an accurate dose. Stayed on that for 4 weeks. Then the plan is to take the .25 mg every other night for 4 weeks until they are gone. If you need to get a whole tablet because this stuff plays with your mind, you can get a .25 mg. so it looks like you are taking more. Then you can even cut that down to a 0.125 mg if you still need to taper off. My advice to you is taper very slowly, do it under a Dr.s care. Listen to your body, everyone is different and the tapering process is different on everybody. Pray alot. And above all NEVER take this drug again. If I can keep one person from taking this pill then it will be worth what I went through to get off. I am 75% off of this horrible pill. I can now see a light at the end of the tunnell. You need to be determined, and stay with the plan. Some people take months even close to a year for the symptons to leave. I feel like I have my life back and I am feeling things again. I actually like my husband again! I am telling you this pill messes with your mind. If a person needs to be on it short time fine. But have a plan and don't be stuck on it for 6 years like I was. I didn't even know it was addictive. If I can be of any help please message me. Prayers going out to all of you that are going through this nightmare!

@ John: Are you still having heart problems? I have just finally gotten off of my last dose of Klonopin a few weeks ago (took me over 4 months to get off of 2mgs! And the whole time was like a living hell!) I am still having heart palpitations all day and night and feel like someone is sitting on my chest, hard to breathe. For some weird reason, everytime I sleep (whether it be at night, or if I doze off in a chair for five minutes!) I wake up in a panic attack and my chest burns and my heart pounds. I feel like I'm having a heart attack! I've asked my family doctor if this is damaging my heart and she says no, but, I find this very hard to believe, since it has gone on for months. This is a very evil drug and I would like to hunt down the bastard doctor that put me on this. He was from the local county mental health center and they change their psychiatrists like they change underwear! Everytime I express anger over what happened they whine, "Well, it helps some people!" No one ever warned me how hideous it would be to get off of this drug, or that it was addictive. If I ever find the bastard I'll ship him back to his native country on the first boat. (After I beat him senseless!)

What you are going through will subside over time. I took myself off of Effexor 4 years ago.9used a calendar and tricked my body) The left side of my face was numb for a year. Once in a while I still get sensation. I came on this site because y sister takes to many pills. The doc keep giving her more and she doesn't get off the old stuff.

Debra, I hear you, benzos are very difficult for ones that have taken them for sometime. 40 years of all types here, Do nothing for me, but absolutely miserable and suicidal without. I tried a couple of times, I just could not function. I know exactly how you feel. I gave up and will live the rest of my life on them unfortunately. Hope you are more successful. Carl

1 mg a day is not a large dose. I take 6mg. That is considered a high dose. High doses for a long period and then going cold turkey is not just miserable, but there is a possibility of having convulsions, such are more commonly equated with barbiturates. But..yes you are right, a slow tapering is the appropriate way to wean off benzos. Carl

I would like to know that answer too I have weaned down from 2mg to 1mg over two flippin' years but I am now under 100 lbs and an insomniac and I can't get below without worse withdrawl symptoms like extreme weight loss, constant digestive disorders, serious mood swings and depressive thinking each time I try to reduce further. I am told by a friend with a few Pharmacoloy degrees to go VERY slow from here...reducing no more than 1/8 of my current dosage at a time /holding for two-three months each time / I'm told Never wean alone, or serious consequences can result~WELL I AM ALONE SO THEN WHAT!!! BE AN ADDICT~ NOT ACCEPTABLE THERE SHOULD BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THE RX COMPANY that makes it BUT REPUBLICAN and Pharmaceutical Lobbist in WASHINTON has ELIMINATED OUR RIGHT TO SUIT IN CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT as of 2011~ and AMERICA Voted For~ IT WE Screwed Ourselves By Not paying attention to what they are doing...SO we are a Nation of JUNKIES~ that really makes me angry! A Doctor did this to me.

Andi knows whats up. I hve been on 2mg three xs a day of clonasapm generic for klonopin for Two years now. I have been told by dr.s that ist is harder to get off of this medication than xanax. I have been through several withdrawls on benzos including xanax, Klonopin was worse and believe me it is extremly dangerous to ween off of let alone go cold turkey. Side effects are seizuers, rapid weight loss and extreme anxiety. It can cause other health problems. If one has a heart problem withdrawls from benzos can be fatal. There are some arguments about what is worse a opiate withdrawl or a benzo withdrawl. Unfortunatly, I been through both. Benzos are worse and most DR's/ ER's would agree. Someone stole my medication /klonopin and methodone and my dr. would not refill till next visit. I was bed ridden for 7days and vomiting so much that *I almost died/ affixation getting vomit into my lungs. I luckly got some bit of my medication back. Still I was up straight for 2 weeks plus losing my job. Opiate withdrawl makes you feel like your going to die but getting through it is possiable if you don't kill yourself why while in withdrawls. Seriously. Car accidents, confusion, and severe depression. Now a days you need a GOOD DR. cause of all these PILL MILLS. I hve three bulging disk in my neck and moderate to severe scolioses and document aniety disorder manafest. Most DR's in for the money will throw both opiates and benzos at you as long as you keep paying, especially if they have there own pharmacy. Down in west palm beach was insane in 2008. Once the dea raided my dr's office and closed it down. Bam Im f--ked. there were teenagers getting 240 roxys "dea limit" And all they had was a sore back . Just give them a recent mri and you are usually good to go. Also around the same time the Dea stopped the manufactering/distribution of roxy's. Rumor was the whole eastern part of the state was without meds for a month. once again Dr's that write massive amon's of meds and you see there waiting room is packed and looks like everyone is from the hood. There is a problem. They get you hook so much that you have to come back. Finally, I can say I hve been off opiate's with the help of suboxone, for three years, which can also deliver a hefty withdrawl even when I tappered off in one month. Still on klonipin but will never " get behind" take your meds as precribed cause it will come back for you with a vengence. Becareful all. It is usually the people who do not need these meds that screw it up for those that do. Good luck Jay

I after a divorce, rape, etc. started having really bad anxiety attacks, depression, etc. I went to the doctor she put me on 2 mg. klonopin, I had started on .5 mg but they didn't seem to help so she upped the dose. I have been on klonopin, for almost 3 years, I have suicidual thoughts now, am in a deep depression, told her so she put me on a mild antidepressant with the klonopin, all I do is cry, cry, I tried to go off the klonopin, on my own, couldn't sleep, sweats, jerky movement, my fingers actually curled up, but I do not have insurance so I can't keep going to the doctors can someone help me, I know I am addicted I know I need to get off this drug its making me more and more depressed, I need help. Memory is gone.

I'm on worker comp, they have paying for klonopin, they have been for 18 years (4-5mg day), however went two days without any, and it was very bad. I don't have the money and they pulled with without warning. Dr.'s are behind me in an appeal, but will take months. Can't take the withdrawal. workers comp say as it is not curitive, took all meds away they pay for, heart med too, no more! Are they not handing me a death sentence/??

My doctor prescribed 1mg klonopin to help with IC. I took it a few times but did not like the mental feeling at all but it helped with pain. I then tried breaking the 1mg tablet into 10 (TEN) pieces and taking that tiny 1/10 mg and it helped without any brain fog. So now I've been taking this tiny 1/10 th mg piece of klonopin for about four months and am worried about stopping. I have five 1mg tablets left which is like fifty doses - should I taper those every other day and if no problem just stop.

I am hoping that the tiny slither of the pill I have been taking is not enough to cause dependence. My doctor says I can just stop, he does not think that the amount I have been taking is enough for the body to get hooked, He chuckles when I show him the bottle of tabs chopped into little 1/10th bits.

I have been on .5 Klonopin for about 7 or 8 years. Tried to taper off one time about two years ago - went into seizures (which I had NEVER before experienced) and wound up in the hospital. I am working on trying to forgive the doctor who put me on this medicine. He did not tell me that it was addictive and had I known, I would never have put the first pill in my mouth. It's BAD NEWS.

Whatever you do DON'T miss a dose of klonopin 1mg. I missed 2 does due to not being able to get refills due to the Dr's office being closed and oh my God I thought I was going to die. I went into withdrawal-climbing out of my skin-swets-headache-muscle cramps-stomach pain. After missing the dose I am so afraid of this med. now. I didn't know that missing it would make me feel so bad.

I also have been on 1MG of Klonopin for about a year, and am trying to taper off by a .25 of a pill every two weeks. I'm taking 3/4 of a MG now and feel pretty bad. It will be one week tomorrow at this level . I hope I level out so next week I can make another adjustment . Its funny if I drink alot of water it helps to take away this feeling that is like a partial withdrwal. I also take Seroquel and sleep very well. I do hope Im able to come off of this and live a life this is no fun. I hope to hear from those who know much more than I do about this. When I get to .5 mg I belive I will taper by only 1/8 every two weeks and see if that makes lit any better.
