I've been reading thru similar posts and it always gets me how so many people talk about "drug addicts ruining it for us folks in real pain". First of all, if you've been taking opiates in any quantity for an extended period guess what? YOU are addicted. Oh, call it "tolerance" if it makes you feel better. It's just funny how people rush to make sure and let people know THEY aren't one of the "bad guys". Well newsflash: one of the effects of opiates is euphoria. I've taken about every kind of pain killer that exists for legitimate medical reasons and I freely admit: I LIKE HOW IT MAKES ME FEEL. SO?? You people are such narcoparanoiacs. Can't you see that the "druggies" aren't what's "ruining things" its the goverment?! Read Dr. Ronald Siegel's book "Intoxication" or some such similar works and educate yourself! The US was founded by anal retentive puritans who are AFRAID of pleasure. Since I'm honest about liking the side effects, that makes me a "druggie"?? Come on! Get out of my body chemistry! It's none of the government (or your) business what I take and how DARE some of you that gripe about your pain only to start throwing stones at other people for the reasoning behind why they take substance X! Mind your business and maybe one day the gov will mind theirs.

Josh, I really feel sorry for you, but at least maybe you got a little of your anger out, but the people you meet on this website aren't the druggies they are people who are looking for answers.
I have been on Oxycontin for almost 8 years and it has given me some of my life back until 4 months ago when I was suddenly in a lot more pain than usual. I told my doctor and since I was just getting over pneumonia he thought that was why my pain had increased. I came here today looking for answers before my appointment on Thursday and found other people were having the same problem as I am. I didn't even know they had changed the Oxycontin and I don't even know what OC and OP mean, but I do know regardless of the formula they do not work the same and I have had some unusual side effects also that could possibly be caused by the change.

First off I wanted to say hi to everyone out there. Secondly has the post even been answered? OC vs. OP what is the difference? Well if it has not been answered and for all of you tuning in just now, the difference is the manufacturer. Oxycontin OP made by perdue (on the bottle) and perdue pharma is the actual name. Oxycontin OC was also made by the perdue pharma group. The difference is the formula in which the pill is put together. The generic for Oxycontin (Roxicodone, M-oxy, ETH-Oxydose, Oxyfast, OxyIR) is OXYCODONE.

I have also been on chronic opiates for a slew of medical problem all stemming from being severely immune suppressed. Not AIDS, although it may as well be AIDS at least they have some legitimate treatments. I read a lot of people are having issues with the OP makeup of the pill. My question to ya’ll is why not switch to something different then? I was on 120mg OC then it was changed to OP and yes it was far less effective and was changed to 3 pills a day and my 15mg IR was increased to 1-2 pills every 4 hours from only having to take 1 pill every 8. I live in Connecticut, probably one of the more stricter states, and it was hard for them to increase my dosage that high. I was hospitalized about 5 months later (third hospitalization since the switch to OP) and it was that hospitalization the doctors and Yale University Hospital switched me over to Fentanyl patches. I was on 250mcg/hr (three patches total) every 72 hours. This worked better then all that pain meds I was taking. Obviously the Oxy OP was no longer needed and the Oxycodone IR was decreased in frequency as well. So why don’t others switch? For one it is harder for docs to switch someone because yes they are bullied by the DEA, FDA, and their state boards to stop accepting pain patients never mind them having to switch some ones pain med.

The whole thing sucks and I wished it was never switched from OC to OP. I would not have even had to go through all this. Thanks for reading and God Bless.

Iam not going to go into all the problems that I now have since the oc to op change. they sound like the other peoples posts.I have been using oxc. for over 12 years, with them it has allowed me to work a productive life. I pay over $600 a month for them. I have decided to stop paying for THIER JUNK.Iam now taking morphine pills.I switched 1 week ago. sure Iam in pain but Iam not paying that damn rip off company more money for less of a product. It really pisses me off that those ass-holes made this change to keep "tweakers" from using them. As allready mentioned, they will & always find some way to abuse. I have NEVER got my scrip. early or asked dr for increased dose. I do thank the "butt heads" for several years of redurced pain. Iam now looking to buy another rental property with the money I am saving. TRY TO SWITCH MEDS. IT WILL BE TOUGH- LET THEM FEEL THE PAIN BY TAKING THIER MONEY. IT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER ALREADY.

I'm a journalist from Canada writing an article about the new OxyNeo formulation that is replacing oxycontin. I'm concerned with the effectiveness for patients with severe pain. I'm interested in hearing about your experiences with the new formulation. Please contact me

Most of your symptoms are probably phsycological.
Fearing that because 1 letter has changed that somehow "they" have weakened the strength is like a crazy conspiracy theory!!!! I am not doubting the pain you are in but just think about it logically mate.

JUST REMEMBER THEY DID THE SAME THING TO TOBACCO SMOKERS BECAUSE OF THE DRUG "NICOTINE". THEY DIDN'T STAND UP FOR THEIR RIGHTS EITHER, NOW LOOK AT THEM. THE GOVERNMENT HAS BEEN INFILTRATING OUR LIVES LIKE HITLER INFILTRATED THE LIVES OF THE GERMAN PEOPLE, SO FAST AND FIERCE THEY DIDNT KNOW WHAT HIT THEM TIL IT WAS TO LATE. THINK IM KIDDING.. IT MAY SOUND PETTY TO YOU BUT THEY HAVE BEEN DOING IT FOR YEARS UNDER THE GUISE OF "FOR OUR HEALTH /INSURANCE SAKE FOR YEARS. KIDS MILK CHANGED FROM WHOLE TO 2%MILK.. MacDonald's COOKING OIL, LAYS POTATO CHIPS (OIL) AND NOW WE HAVE THE "GOVERNMENT" TRYING TO TELL US HOE BIG OUR CUP OR CONTAINER OF SODA SHOULD BE. BECAUSE OF OBESITY? OH PLEASE.. HOW MANY DIFFERENT REASONS ARE THEY GOING TO KEEP SHOVING DOWN OUR THROATS FOR OBESITY. OH BY THE WAY.. DIDN'T THEY PASS A LAW SEVERAL YEARS BACK ABOUT ADVERTISING ALCOHOL ON T.V?? THEY'RE BAAAACK, OR DID THEY EVER LEAVE? MAYBE M.A.D.D JUST FIZZLED AND GAVE UP. I HAVE PERSONALLY WRITTEN TO EVERYONE I COULD POSSIBLY THINK OF, TO CHANGE
THE FORMULATIONS OF OXYCONTIN AND OPANA BACK TO THEIR ORIGINAL FORMULATION. I SUGGESTS THAT YOU DO THE SAME. THE WHEEL THAT SQUEEKS THE LOUDEST GETS THE OIL. JUST ASK THE NON SMOKERS
MAYBE THEY CAN TELL YOU HOW LOUD TO SQUEAL!!!

I have recently started going to a pain clinic. My primary doctor was giving me 180 oxycodone 10/325 a month and 10 Fentanyl patches a month. I have not gotten my new prescriptions yet, and after reading all these posts, I am scared to. He gave me 60 Oxycontin 40mg 2x day and 60 oxycodone 10/325 2 a day for brak thru pain. Can anyone logically tell me if this is going to be a painful experience chaging my meds?

Josh Jones. If you know someone taking advil for pain and it works for them then they are not in real pain. Theyre just cry babies that have no idea what real pain is. Whats with the y'all? It is you all. Also Josh, you mention crushing pills. Sounds like you know all about that and are speaking from experience. basically if someone is only taking advil for their pain then they don't have that much pain.

Some people should do more research before they act like they know what there talking about. Op and Oc is the same drug and does have the same formula. But they added a chemical does not allow one to snort or inject it. This chemical also does not let but about 1/3 of the actual drug to breakdown in your system. The rest just passes through your stool. I for one don't take meds of no kind. Have no need.

Is there any other pharmaceutical company's that make the oxycontin besides perdue pharma?

Not everyone can take nsid's, I am one of them any anti-inflammatory brings on breathing difficulties. I have knee replacements, arthritis and fibromyalgia. The new oxy format does not work well. It takes longer, doesn't last as long, makes me dizzy, and causes headaches. I have not and will not abuse the medication and have never considered snorting or whatever people do that abuse the meds. So I suggest that you realize not everyone is an abuser. We suffer extreme pain and would like to be able to enjoy our life.

I have a very important question to ask!
I have been taking oxycodone 10/325, and today I was prescribed OxyContin 10mg OP. I took one pill as prescribed and its been 4 hours and I can barely feel the effects and I am still in pain. But here is my question..... If I am used to getting 10 mg instantly within 10-15 minutes, how to I get the same relief/ effect with the Oxy Op? I'm afraid to take two for fear of over dosing. I just want my 10mg all at once. What do I do?
How much oxy is being released in my bloodstream each hour? Help!

Okay people, you guys obviously need a slap in the face to knock the ignorance out of your nerrow minded thick skulls, so since I can`t literally do it, I`ll do it with information: The government took away the OC`s and give the pharmacies OP`s for the simple fact that they are more profitable. It has nothing to do with them being less easier to abuse(though they are), because let`s face it, if that were the case they`d be changinging every narcotic that is sesseptable to abuse i.e:percocet, vicoden,xanex,delodid,etc...so quit whinning, that aint gonna get you very far in the pharm. business.

It's all the freaking crap, coating, then filters. Its freaking rediculous no wonder your getting dizzy. If I were you, I would switch to hydomorphine or oxymorphine. Sorry your suffering again. Please just try and change all together.
Good luck and thank you for keeping us free.

Sorry to hear your plight. I've never taken the Oxycontin OP or whatever it's called. I will make this request for you though. I had 29 broken bones and a near death experience in a car accident. I have 4 total joint replacements and a bunch of other crap. I believe I was on 80 mg Oxycontin 3 times daily with 8mg Dilaudid tabs up to 4 times daily for break thru pain. My Dr. Wanted me to try another med for my feedback because I also am an Opioid Addiction Counselor here in Chattanooga. He put me on Methadone 10mg tabs. 2 tabs r times daily...and you wouldn't BELIEVE how much more efficient the pain relief is. Its just OBVIOUS to myself it hits all the receptor sites across the CNS system. I promise you, you will immediately tell a difference..or that day...Definitely within a couple days..because it builds up in your system. You'll sleep better, I promise you. I couldn't believe the difference. Its a much stronger opioid too. Talk to your Dr., and if he asks where you heard this, tell him and also tell him I'm a counselor. I promise you'll be glad you did!! God Bless
