I have been on dialysis for the last 2 and a half years. Suddenly I experienced back pain and rib pain. Upon taking an x-ray my doctor said the ribs have been bent and the nerves touching it causes pain. He has given me Maxgalin 75 for 10 days. Is it safe for me to take this? Please advise. I am a 63 year old woman, not diabetic. {edited for privacy}

This medication is an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain, the NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain.
However, it is not likely to help much in just 10 days, it usually takes a couple of weeks for it to reach its full level of efficacy in the body.
As to the x-ray, that would not show nerves touching anything.
What type of doctor did you consult for this?
