Started On Seroquel For Alcohol Addiction (Top voted first)
UpdatedI was 1st prescribed seroquel when I entered treatment for alcohol addiction, anxiety, and depression. I am proud to say I am now 5-1/5 years sober and wondering if or why I still need to be on this medicine. I take 100mg @ night along w/ 50mg of Zoloft. My biggest concern is if I will ever get to sleep w/o aid

If you've been taking them for years, actually even if you've just been taking one of them for years, then the best way to stop taking them would be to do a slow taper. Otherwise, they tend to cause rebound effects, so you may experience symptoms such as severe depression, insomnia, irritability and etc.

If you do it that way, then there will most likely be a brief period of insomnia and some other mild symptoms, but nothing as severe as if you just abruptly stopped them.
Have you talked to your doctor about it?
And congrats on staying sober!! WTG!!!
I know this is an old post, but I just wanted to say that I think the meds are probably helping you stay sober. Seroquel can help prevent relapses and so can the Zoloft, by keeping depression and anxiety down. If you are still on them by any chance you may want to consider staying on them because they are worth it if they are helping you. If you are dead set on getting off them then they need to be slowly tapered down under doctors supervision. The withdrawal symptoms can be very bad if they are stopped abruptly and it could lead to years of sobriety down the toilet. Focus on the good you have done and slowly taper any medicine like that!
be very careful with the Seroquel, I would talk to your doc about zyprexa...
