Side Effects Of Lexamil
UpdatedHi, I am 48 years old. I have been diagnosed with Bipolar 2. I have been using Cipralex 10mg together wilth Wellbutrin. Since the last quarter of 2008 Cipralex was no longer available in SA. At the moment I am gaining weight and as I am short and do suffer from asthma and a heart defect, this is very uncomfortable. At the moment I'm living in Mali where there are no doctors available that who are specialised how to treat this situation. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I don't understand why people say Lexamil makes one put on weight. Is it that it stimulates your appetite and therefore one is prone to put on weight or do the kilo's just pile on out of nowhere? Thanks!
Please help - iam on camcolit and lexamil since ive taken them from last wednesday I dont feel well this morning i started vomiting and am pale and shakky
I have recently been diagnosed with Bipolar and put on Lexamil. I have only been on it for a week but I have found that I am contantly hungry and especially late at nights. (I take the meds in the morning) I am pre-diabetic and have high blood pressure so am taking medication for that as well for the last 2 yrs. The doctor also put me on fluaxnol for depression. Is it the Lexamil that cld be increasing my appetite as I already struggle with a weight problem.
Wow I have had the same problem, I also get up at night to eat and am aware that I should not do it but I feel out of control and sometimes have 2 slices of bread and then I go back to sleep
i was on lexamil for a year and a few months...
within the first six months i had gained 16kg....
i ate the same as i had before i started taking lexamil, i had actually started eating healthier round about the time i started taking lexamil...
so, from my experience, i didn't gain weight from eating more...
i don't know what exactly the drug changed in body to bring about this change, though...
hmmm...
I have been on Lexamil for 2 weeks now and find that I am hungry more often than I used to be before taking the pills.
Been on Lexmark for 3 years gained about 20kg's and counting....didn't eat more At all in fact ate less and healthier. Still gaining every month. I have decided to stop this non sense and rather deal with my hurt than getting fat!
I have been on Lexamil for about 1 1/2 years and have lost 7 kg's
Lexmark?
I am also on Lexamil 20mg and have put on at least 7kg in the past 3 months. I was diagnosed with Major Depression, but putting on this weight is making me more depressed. I'm thinking of stopping the meds and going back to Prozac. It's also making me very constipated! I was better "depressed" without it!
Lexamil is an SSNRI... I seriously have to wonder what your Dr was thinking when putting together that combo. ive been treated for Bipolar II for 10 years now.. and ive been through most diagnostic algorithms and the accompanying treatment protocols. SSNRI's and SSRI's are quite frankly pretty useless in my opinion. There is very little evidence to suggest they offer any therapeutic benefit at all.
Now the shocker, most of the meds you'll be exposed have weight gain as a side effect, but in my experience anti psychotics are the worst.. If you have BiPolar, the primary treatment almost always begins with Lithium. Mood stabilisers are the bedrock of reaching a maintenance phase in your treatment.. If you're unfortunate enough to be treatment resistant, as I fall into the Ultridian category, previously Ultra Rapid Cycling, its taken a long time to reach a point where my medication is truly effective elect a light weight mood stabiliser, Lamatrogine (epitec, lamitor etc) has a high benefit ration compared to the negative ratio of its side effects Anti Depressants can often be a bit off the beaten path, Provigil is still undergoing final approval for treatment of major depressive disorder and Bipolar, works extremely well when dosed correctly within a stable protocol. Ritalin is effective for treatment resistant depression. A new option that is honestly quite impressive is Brintellix ... I could go on about psychopharmacology for hours but to answer the question SSRI's and SSNRI's will cause weight gain, as does wellbutrin.. carbamazipine, lithium, sulpiride, seroquel. If you think your Dr is an i*****, many are and play guess work with treatments after diving into that stupid little book DSM IV and now V ... i have a list of the top psychiatrists and neuro psychiatrists in the country.. makes all the difference... research is constantly emerging and you need a Dr who keeps current with treatments.
Re: Mitch (# 5)
Hi. I have been using Lexamil for about more than 2 years due to major post traumatic stress etc. Side effects to me: excessive weight gain, no libido, horrible night mares, flu like symptoms, dry mouth, running nose, head aches, nausea, heart burn, yawning, sleepy, brain "shocks", constipation, itchy etcetera, I suffer from all the side effects :-( I have stopped using it from December 2017. Will never use it again. How long does it take to work completely out of one's system?
