Updatedamitriptyline tab 10 mg
generic for elavil
other than drowsiness
Hi. I have just been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and been given 10mg of amitrip a day. I have only been on it 5 days but I barely function..I am drowsy and very slow in moving and find it hard to concentrate. It is effecting my job. How long before these side effects go? :(
Robin, I take 10 mg and have virtually no side-effects. Taken at night an hour or so before bedtime... it's a wonder-drug. I love it! I had major trauma in my life with the tragic loss of three family members and I could not sleep and was almost unable to continue. Life is good again.
I have been on 10mg amatrip for 4 nights now, I'm sleeping a lot better, but am finding I'm getting a heavy headache the next day, is this normal ????
HI I have been taking amtriptyline 10mg for a week now because i get headaches. Since i have been taking them my headaches are alot better. The only side effect i am getting is a pressure feeling in the middle of my forehead im hoping it will fade soon
Take the medication at night time! It makes you sleepy (which is a benefit to me). I wake up refreshed, but it took a few weeks of slow wake up days before I felt normal.
Sir, I am used to of excess urination. I am not diabitic. My doctor has advised me amitrityline 10 (one Aat 6 PM). Please let me know whether to take this medicine or not, i anm little afraid of side effects. Please advice me. Thanks in anticipation.
I have been on it for more that 11 years, but I find that I need to take it sometime between 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm for it to work well and not make me too drowsy but still let it help me to get a good sleep.
I was prescribed these tabs when I had bad attack of migraine, believe me I didnt take kindly to them, I was always drowsy and sleepy and had to quit taking them. It was like I was on valium.
I recently experienced an acute lower back pain and was prescribed 25mg of amitri tabs. It's been 2 weeks and I quit the meds. I have irritating dry mouth, dizziness, lack of concentration plus unexplained tiredness. Is all the above side effects from the drug? My doc says my body wil adjust. Is this true. Help please.
Common side effects of using Amitriptyline include:
Weight gain, dry mouth, loss of appetite, drowsiness, muscle stiffness, nausea, constipation, nervousness, dizziness, blurred vision, urinary retention and insomnia.

Robin, I take 3 10mg tabs at night for sleep. I'm surprised you were prescribed 50 mg to begin with. I was informed by my doctor that recent research found that taking more than 40 mg max. may cause heart failure! I'm so sorry this didn't work for you and you experienced so many side effects. So glad you didn't experience the most serious one!
If you're taking Amitriptiline, you should only take the medication at night. I sleep like a baby and wake up refreshed. However, you do have an adjustment period. It did take a few weeks to get used to it.
Ok thanks, I also have a ery peaciful sleep, sometimes I even forget to dream.........thats how good the sleep is bt unfortunately it spills into the following day and I experience a very dreadful day. I will carry on another week or so to see if I adapt. Thanks once again.
Kitten, thats exactly what those tabs make me feel and the headaches are erratic?
It seems to come on early afternoon and then gets worse until I take my tablet in the evening, like now took my tablet about an hour ago and my head is settling down, I'm hoping this won't last longer than a few weeks as they really are helping relax in the evening and sleep better which was why I needed them
Hi my husband has been prescribed ami for chronic stomach pain. He has been on it since July. It is making him sleepy at night which is fine as he takes it at 7pm. He is very slow in the morning. However what is worrying me is that he has very bad memory loss, always depressed and lacks concentration. He was in a very high powered job and has had to retire at only 55. He is not the mandatory he used to be and I am so sick with worry that I do not know what to do. Do you think it that it is the tablets that are giving him these symptoms??
Does anyone have any positive things to say about Amitriptyline regarding helping them to be less depressed, and able to enjoy life more?? Thanks!
I have been taking amiltriptyline for quite some time to reduce the frequency of optic migraines. There is no question it reduced the frequency. I had only one this year and was getting them much much much more often. Yes, I think it does have its side effects of dry mouth, yes, I am tired more but all in all it has helped my opitically debilitating migraines. The tiredness wears off as I take a very very small dose which I even cut in half. Sometimes I thin it exacerbates other anxiety feelings I have but I will trade that for the debilitating, frightening and almost stroke like optic migraines with aura. They were a curse as I never knew when I would be sucker punched by them. Thy absolutely interrupted my life.
In May a year ago I was prescribed Amitriptyline 10 mg, 3 tabs at bedtime (30 mg) for extreme sleep deprivation brought on by a very painful mysterious mouth condition that kept me from falling sleeping, or sleeping more than 1 hour at a time. I had been previously been prescribed several other Rx sleep aids, none of which worked, along with taking O-T-C Melatonin.
However, this Rx worked wonders. I fall asleep quickly and sleep for up to 3-4 hrs. at a time, but when I do wake in the night, after a quick bathroom break, I fall right back to sleep. I wake feeling well rested. It doesn't make sense to me why a doctor would prescribe this medication for daytime use! It puts you to sleep!
WARNING: If you need a Rx sleep aid, I suggest you do not take Ambian or Xanax. They have recently been reported to have some very serious side effects and addiction issues.
I have been taking for about 3 weeks. I have an auto immune disease and suffer from chronic joint pain and fatigue. Since I have been taking them I have been sleeping really well and feeling so much better. Am a bit groggy in the morning and have had a dry mouth but other than that it's great and to be able to sleep a full night is just brilliant. Like I say just still a bit wierd in the morning but am hoping that's just loading doses.
