Severe Asthma, Coughing And Chest Pain - Cant Afford An Inhaler!
UpdatedMy insurance dropped my prescription coverage recently and now I cant afford my inhalers. $100 per inhaler and I go through an inhaler at least once a week. I've been having my usual severe asthma, can hardly breathe, chest pain, tightness, cough, and generally think im slowly suffocating to death. Primatene tablets don't do anything! I'm dying here, please does anyone have any suggestions, other than go to the ER.. I can't afford that either but it is a last resort. It would be very difficult for me to get to the er too. Thanks if anyone can help...

Do you have a doctor that you see regularly? Either a PCP or pulmonologist?
If so, they may have samples they can give you to use for awhile, since you no longer have prescription coverage. My mother-in-law just had an appointment the other day and the doctor gave her some samples of new inhalers to try, since hers was also out of control and her old medications were no longer working. It never hurts to ask your doctor about samples and to let them know you have no coverage, most will try to work with you to help you.
Additionally, there is a prescription drug discount card on most pages of this site, towards the lower right, you just click the link, put in your email address, print it and take it to your pharmacy. It may help save you money.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of most inhalers as possibly including dry mouth and throat, dizziness and headache.
If you post back with the names of the specific ones you use, I'll also be happy to check for you to see if they offer any assistance programs.
Does anyone else have any ideas or suggestions that may help?
im going to my doctor tomorrow.Im hoping something can be done to help me while i wait to find out if my prescrip insurance goes through. My asthma rollercoasters every day..sometimes i cant get any sleep because i cant lie down at night..i recently was put on prednisone but the asthma came back full force when i was taken off it.Thanks for your response...i appreciate it!
Suffocating,
I have exactly the same symptoms. Doctors including specialists are stuck. Prednisone is the only effective relief for me but long term is an issue obviously. How are you today and what country are you in?
