Rimadyl For Human Use (Top voted first)
UpdatedJust wondering if this drug is prescribed for human use to relieve joint pain?
what would happen if a human took rimadyl?? i was told some one was taking it for pain
Will this get a human messed up? Like if i take it will i get all groggy and feelin good an s***?
A friend of mine has upper back disc issues. She was prescribed remadyl. (It could be another name?) we used to give this to our arthritic dog and wondering if this advice was good?
This drug was prescribed to humans until it was pulled because it could not compete as a prescription drug against Advil and Motrin which are both very similar. You shouldn't be so quick to fill the Douche Jar.
Rymdal was used in humans for 10yrs and took off the market not because of harm but because of the marketing issues. Why keep a drug on the market as a perscription if you can by advil for half the price?
please discuss your cost concerns with your veterinarian. Carprofen is available as a generic and is very affordable at this point. (for your size dog if you give 1/2 of a 25mg twice a day it should only cost $12/month) In many cases this is as cheap or cheaper than human drugs. Please DO NOT give your dog aspirin, or advil. You may think you are saving money, but the cost for treating a perforated ulcer, or kidney failure is much higher
rimadyl (carprofen) was approved by the FDA 12/31/1987--the manufacturer Roche decided not to market it for human use--no benefit over various other NSAID products such as ibuprofen and naproxen--probably safe for a human, but no study data available, so.............let you dog have it and buy some ibuprofen for yourself
Side effects include: chasing cars, barking at the mail man, licking yourself...
Seriously this is for canine use only. It sounds to me that you are lookling to abuse the drug.
If so please seek help
Can Ibuprofen be used for my 75 lb Rottweiler with oster? I'm a human doctor. Rimadyl is so expensive
You can give him tramadol. This is a lot cheaper than Remadyl and you can get the prescription filled out at the pharmacy which will make it even cheaper
Rimadyl contains the active ingredient Carprofen and no, it is currently approved only for use in canines.

It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and there are several of these on the market for human use, including:
Ibuprofen

Ketoprofen:

and Naproxen Sodium:

Is there anything else I can help you with?
Rimadyl was prescribed for humans for ten years! Pfizer took it off the market for humans for "commercial" reasons. My guess is that doctors didn't really jump on the band Rimadyl band wagon and they weren't making enough money on it in the human market!
I was told by my vet a few years ago (when treating animals wasn't such a business) to give my dogs baby aspirin for pain relief. I have used it to treat my dogs for pain due to limes disease, and it always seemed to make them more comfortable. As far as dosage, I can tell you I was told to give my 12 pound dog one tablet. I'd just calculate from there. Hope this helps. I completely understand being on a budget!
Consult your veterinarian for alternatives - rimadyl is safer than aspirin for dogs as they are much more prone to stomach ulcers than people are. Ibuprofen, Tylenol, and naproxen can cause toxicity reactions and even death unless given under veterinary supervision (seriously, and even more likely to cause death in cats). Your veterinarian may be able to suggest generics or other pain medications if cost is a problem.

No! You absolutely cannot use that type of medication on animals - it's extremely toxic to them causing ulcers and liver damage.
My dog neads rimadyl 100mg tabs but very expencive every month is thair a humain cheaper medication i can give him
Tramodol is classed as a Narcotic. Another name for it is Ultram. ONLY a Dr. can perscribe it. NEVER heard of any animal on this. I have 4 dogs and WOULD NEVER give them Tramodol a.k.a. Ultram. Wow!!!!
I've been giving 50 mg tramadol daily to my 14-year-old dog for her arthritis for almost 5 years. No bad reaction or side effects. Tramadol has been a godsend for her pain relief.
