Questions About Stopping Atenolol

I take 200mg altenolol a day &cardevilol twice a day my reg dr was out i had severe leg swelling like ive never had begore for 2days went to dr as soon as i could get in he was dr filling in &to be honest a wretched little man he told me to just stop taking my altenolo ive been on 200mg a day for 10years i didnt stop taking it because i feel it really works am i wrong?

Hello, Jami! How are you doing? Do you still have the edema? Is your regular doctor back, yet?

Both of these medications can cause edema, so it's difficult to say which one is the culprit. As to stopping it, there can be risks associated with stopping one abruptly, as reported by the FDA, such as rebound high blood pressure and elevated heart rate.

But severe edema also creates the risk of congestive heart failure, so it should be treated and I'm surprised he didn't prescribe a diuretic, even if did want you stop the Atenolol, or just replace it with a different medication.
