Prednisone Improved My Concentration

I take four drugs to keep anxiety and pain under control from a car accident, the drugs tend to sedate me. Ever since, for ten years, I have had trouble concentrating. But I was given prednisone for a burn from radiation, a three-week tapering regime, and I suddenly got back my concentration and felt happier. I wonder, does anyone know if psychiatric doctors give prednisone to help a person's concentration and mood? I thought perhaps a low dose of it once a day might be safe, and I would ask my psych doc about it, if this is appropriate. Also, if anyone else has experienced this with Prednisone and found it helpful, I would like to post back and forth with you for a short while here, just on how well we're doing with it. Thank you for any responses.

It is very doubtful that they would be willing to prescribe it for such a use. Prednisone is a steroid class medication, so long-term use of has the risk of causing serious side effects, such as extreme weight gain and fluid retention, which could lead to conditions such as congestive heart failure.

You may, however, want to discuss using a medication that is approved to treat similar conditions, such as ADHD, like Adderall, if you can take them.

More than 2 years back I had spontaneous onset of ascites, pitting ankle edema & general fluid retention, even my prepuce was bloated with the symptoms getting progressively worse. A Nephrologist after performing FNA biopsy of my right kidney, under Ultra Sound guidance, diagnosed my condition from the histopathology report: Idiopathic Nephrotic Syndrome. The histopathology report indicated necrotic changes (? age related) as well as other glomerular anomalies that my kidneys are not functionally normal. At more than 6 decade old "any" function is a joyous HELLiluiah; to expect NORMAL is asking to have the proverbial cake & eating it! BUT the cause/causes are not known thus: 'idiopathic' [only I****s will know the PATHOLOGY] which could mean medical science has not been very up to that level of research yet to know the cause/causes. Or incentives are not lucratively attractive for further investigative research in that particular pathology.

I was put on a regime of Prednisolone & Cyclosporine A or (Sandimmune). The dosage started was slowly tapered till at time of posting my daily doses of Prednisolone is 12mg & Cyclosporine A 50mg bd. Point being pursued here is despite the administration of these (im) POTENT chemicals & the supposed prophylactic 'gain' of averting ESRF (end stage renal failure) with either Kidney Dialysis or worst : kidney transplantation - the detriments side effects - not including the emotional roller coaster of dashed expectations & hopes of complete remission from the frequent relapses with macroalbuminurea when attempting to taper doses of the 2 pharmaceuticals is to say the least energy and hope sapping. After these 2 years of medication, severe effects is evident on walking , with the lower limbs feeling as if they were not connected to the body. Walking being my very happy pastime around the scenic country side now is almost undoable. And skeletal defects viz Cerival Spondylosis, Sciatica and other skeletal intervertebral cartilaginous defects are pronounced with severity of symptoms magnified, intensified!. It truly is such a PAIN...

Yet the alternative of losing kidney function going onto dialysis and/or Transplantation are as unpalatable. Truly as a very tested PATIENT there is nothing positive that can be derive from this experience but NO ONE EVER SAID IT WAS GOING TO BE GREAT (or even good). Of course it could be worse. The Nephrologist was exceptionally factual & grounded, holding out no false promises & very encouragingly supportive with a no miracle expected approach to the Syndrome. Now one should be convinced despite media blasts to the contrary - THERE ARE TONS OUT THERE OF WHICH WE HOMO SAPIENS COMPLETELY DO NOT KNOW even ONE tiny SQUAT OF That means U DOCTORs, those who play GOD for self gains...

I am NOT & will NOT just lie down, allowing the steam roller of crippling debilitation to flatten me. In parting: "Doctors (some) think they are gods - Priests (many) BELIEVE they ARE. I believe in God (SUPERNATURAL PERSONA) who is not owned by RELIGIONs.
