Percocet Dosage Limits 5/325 (Page 5) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am taking the percocet 512 white tablets 5mg/325 for severe back pain due to degenerating disc(s). I have been told 1 pill every 8 hours, but find the pain so excruciating after about 5 hours that I cannot even stand... even to use the bathroom or shower. My MD cannot get me into a specialist until August, but I am having real stress here. Will it be harmful for me to take more than the one tablet per 8 hours??
Nucynta withdraw DOES occur and feels like a bad case of the flue for about 3 days. Night sweats, fever, chills, just plain awful.
Actually, I would believe that the MAJORITY (not "some") sufferers of chronic pain are quite regularly awakened by their pain. Sleeping, as you know, does not erase pain. The LA/ER opiate/opioid medications were formulated to last longer and one of the reasons was to help people to sleep through the night.
I actually would find it quite odd that a person with a consistent high level of pain would experience a miraculous suspension of pain during sleep. Quite frankly, it makes no sense.
in reference to your comments about addiction,it is a very tough situation to deal with....but, i am a chronic pain patient and have been for 14 yrs. with rsd. i take hydrocodone 10 mgs. q4 hrs. for the pain. not every chronic pain patient will become addicted ....less then 2 % actually become addicted. please try to understand that these medications allow pain patients to go to work or just give back some of the life that the pain has taken away. thank-you and good luck.
You could take 4 every 6 hrs, if being treated correctly for Chronic Pain. How long have you been in moderate to severe pain on majority of days. If more than 6 mos., can safely take Percocet 5; however, must watch how much ACET (tYLENOL) THE 325 PART TAKE.. i personally use 100mgs of Duragesic Patch every 72 hrs and Percocet 10-20mg/325 6hrs prn. for break thru pain which is practically all time w/broken neck and hand.
How long should 30 pills of 5 mg percocet should last you ...for bunion surgery after pain
I've taken 7, 7.5 325 in a 24 hr period I'm I gonna die
Actually, this is not true. Both hydrocodone and oxycodone pose similar risk of opiate addiction. The FDA is considering changing all hydrocodone combination products to be Schedule II drugs (as Percocet currently is...). That would mean that Vicodin prescriptions will become non-refillable; a new Rx is needed for each bottle. Hydrocodone is a little less potent than oxycodone. But, again, both these drugs provide an opiate "buzz" - hydrocodone products that contain no other ingredients (Zohydro - which comes out soon) are Schedule II drugs - meaning that hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine and other opiates all pose similar dependency risks.
COFFEE FOR OPIATE WITHDRAWAL? That's a new one to me and I work at a Detox. People withdrawing from opiates (morphine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, etc.) should AVOID caffeine - Withdrawal from opiates can cause anxiety, which will only worsen if coffee or caffeine-containing products are consumed.
WHEN I DECIDED I NO LONGER WANTED TO CONTINUE TAKING NARCORTICS FOR PAIN, THAT I'D BEEN ON FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS, ,VICODIN, PERCOCET, LORCET ,OXYCOTIN FROM 15MG TO 80MG, MY DOCTOR PUT ME ON METHADONE 10MG. THE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS FROM THE NARCOTICS WERE NONE EXISTANT. AFTER 2MONTHS 1 PILL A DAY I'M CLEAN. METHADONE IF YOU WANT TO GET OFF ALL THAT PAIN MEDICINE
Maybe it's just me, but I've NEVER, EVER, gotten a "high," "buzz," or any other feeling other than plain, unadulterated pain RELIEF from both the Oxycontin ER (80 mg,. extended relief) or the Oxycodone 30 mg (immediate acting, for break through pain). And, I'm not sure if the fact that I ONLY take my meds WHEN I NEED TO TAKE THEM, and never anytime sooner, or more than what was prescribed, has helped me to NOT become addicted. I've had moderate to sometimes extreme abdominal pain since 2005 and my Rx has remained the same ever since. I've even been able to "save" quite a lot of my 80mg ER's so that, when I get into the Medicare "donut hole" I can skip a month's Rx so I can save up for, or sell stuff, so I can pay for the next Rx (which, when in the "hole" can cost me upwards of $400 a month!). I don't know what the answer is for everyone and perhaps the way I deal with my meds won't work for everyone, but it has for me. In other words, if I had to put it in one sentence or phrase, it would be, "Don't take any if you don't absolutely HAVE TO." I hope this MIGHT help someone but, if this doesn't apply to you, then I will have at least given an alternative that y'all just might try. God bless all of you who, like me, deal with 24/7/365 x ???? years, and do the very best that we can to make it from one day to the next while trying to keep our sanity! Christine :)
BY THE WAY!!! When I mentioned that I could "sell stuff," I DIDN'T mean selling any of my extra Oxy's (just in case anyone might have concluded that this is what I was doing with my extras! I sell crafts and/or any designer clothing that I used to wear when I was gainfully (and happily) employed. I just wanted to clarify that!
I absolutely agree with you and I also feel that if you (patient) don't take any if you don't actually NEED TO then that will help a lot in preventing an addiction.
wow, there was a time when I was taking 2 every 4 hours around the clock for the same problem plus a severe foot injury. but with Doctors around the country freaking out and cutting down on the amount they prescribe many who suffer with chronic pain are left suffering. It's to bad.
When being weaned off of oxycodone, I now am down to 7.5. When I try to push myself to wait longer in between dosages, do any of you get like a "restless leg syndrome"? I do. It's just terrible. Is this one of the withdraw effects?

I take 6 5/325 mg pills (2 every four hours) of percocet only on days that I work--or if the pain is too much I take a couple a day. Just returned back to work yesterday. I had an 8" tumor taken off my spinal cord 11 weeks ago (12" incision in middle of back) and assumed the pain would be much better by now. I was on two different types of morphine, but it made me feel high and I HATE that feeling. Luckily percocet does not does not make me feel high. I'm afraid my pain may be chronic nerve pain in my back now.
But what I would like to know is:
Should I ask my doc for 10/325 mg pills cuz of the amount of acetaminophen I take most days? I don't want liver damage from ongoing use of this drug (which I HATE taking).
If you take your pain medication before you go to sleep and add something to help you sleep (I take Xanax), unless your pain is excrutiating, you should be able to get a fairly good nights sleep. I have advanced degenerate disc disease, plus I had double knee operations in September 2013 and still experience pain in my left knee, so I have chronic pain. I am on Lortabs 10/325. I take one 3 times a day every 5-6 hours. Since I have been on them for some time now, I have formed an addiction. I will always have pain, but I do have an EMPI machine that you hook electrodes up to your painful area. This helps, but I still need my opiates because if I skip one, man, do I ever feel like crap. If you feel you want to get off them but don't want to go through the "sickness" you will feel, there are clinics that can help you. I'm not sure if I would be able to take opiates for the rest of my life, I am 66 and have liver diagnostics once every 3 months and have been fine, so far. If you are in chronic pain and have been on opiates for more than two weeks, make sure you have your liver enzymes checked. It's the Tylenol in the opiates that is bad for your liver.
death
If I take 5-6 of these what could happen?....
If you get an answer please let me know. I have had the same experience as you. My doctor refuses to increase my dose. It started out 3 tablets a day as needed now it 4. I still taking only 5 mgs. It takes 2 tablets to get out of bed. I'm active heath conscious but the pain is taking its toll. When I get home from work I just want to go to bed. :(
