Pain Management For Fibromyalgia (Top voted first)
UpdatedWhat are the best medications to treat fibromyalgia? I am always hurting somewhere on my body. Especially my back, knees, and hips. I am so exhausted. I wake up every morning feeling like I didn't sleep at all. My doctor gave gabapentin 600mg 3 times a day. They don't work and neither does lyrica. I am just so tired of the pain. I also have trouble walking when my knees, back and hips hurt. Any info you can give me would greatly appreciated.

There is really no best medication that I can mention, it can vary from person to person. The medications you've mentioned you've mentioned are great examples, they don't work for you, but they do work well for many others that try them.
The NIH states the some antidepressants can help, such as Cymbalta or Savella. Have you tried one of them? It's an idea to discuss with your doctor.
The FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes.
Hi, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Neuropathy in 2006. The doctor's tested me for diabetes each year and diabetes has not been found. I was stung by a tiny scorpion in my parents house in 2000 ( I was 46 rears old). Now tendon's are calcified and I am in severe Chronic Pain. I have had surgery on both feet "plantar faciiatis". I am not someone who likes to sit still. I was varsity golf my freshman and sophomore year. Working is something that I would do even if I didn't need money. Being busy and Gardening is what makes me happy and now I have this Horrible Pain stopping me.I ask my doctor of 10 years and refuses to offer me anything but anti depressants and Tramadol. I was a CNA for a year, I love working the garden center, I have a wonderful little dog that I want and need to walk and then there is the Grandchildren!!! I need to erase the stupid pain so I can get up and enjoy living !and the doctor's are keeping me down and Not Helping me .I see a specialist tomorrow and I am Praying to God that he will prescribe me stronger meds than the Vicodin. I have my associates degree and I have tried cortisone shots, the surgeries, physical therapy and all the stupid antidepressants. They are probably Marvelous for some but not me, paying out of my SSDI check for something that doesn't help and makes me more frustrated and still in throbbing severe pain . and now they say I am a drug seeker ! Well Duh ! Stop the pain ! I Attend Church Faithfully and I was not able to go to the Altar for Communion Which Broke My Heart and the Priest had to bring it to me. ! Church family took me to the ER. I got a shot of Demerol and a script of hydrocodone7. Still not strong enough ! I am told Oxycodone no acimeniphin !! I'm turning 55 and strong heart and strong will to Enjoy Life.
I take savella and celebrex. The two of them together have helped me alot!
Re: Verwon (# 1)
The very best treatment for fibro is Vicodin. U need nothing more! Pain goes, fatigue goes, depression goes!!! Real simple. Doctors won’t give it so forget it! That’s why all the other s*** with tons of side effects. It’s an excuse because they can’t treat it!! They know it and are full of s***!
Re: Brambo (# 4)
I was given Vicodin for many years. It lost effectiveness over time and caused severe constipation. Today it is highly unlikely that a doctor would prescribe Vicodin for long term usage as it is an opioid. Each patient needs to be looked at as an individual. If a medication works for you and you are following dosage instructions given by your doctor, it should be made available for you. With fibromyalgia there is no one single treatment that works and there is no cure. Another reason that each patient needs to be viewed as an individual.
Hi Have you tried Low dose Naltrexone. You have it compounded at the strength you need. Perhaps 4.5 mg. You can read up about it.
I AM GOING TO CHECK WITH MY DR. FIRST BUT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING INTO TUMERIC CURCUMIN BY PURE NATURE. IT IS SUPPOSE TO ADDRESS NUMEROUR ISSUES. MUSCLE PAIN, INFLAMMATORY PROBLEMS, BRAIN HEALTH, MEMORY, EVEN HELP WITH DEPRESSION, AND PAIN IN ANKLES, KNEES, AND BACK. GOOD LUCK, BUT DO CHECK WITH DR BECAUSE OF UNINTENTIONAL DRUG INTERACTIONS WITH SUPPLEMENTS.
Have you tried the Quell Unit? It is available at Amazon {aff link}, and has a good return policy as it only works on about 80% of people. I have two neighbors and my wife which it has done a super job for. It was suggested to us about 4 years ago by a professor at one of the biggest medical schools around. It costs about $200 and is a high powered tens unit. It requires no prescription and since it is not an internal medication, no reactions with existing meds. Great thing if it works and you are in the 80% you got it. If it doesn't work they give your money back. Can't beat that deal.
Have you tried Low Dose Naltrexone? I take 0.5 mg in the morning for CFS but it’s been kind of miraculous in that I get fewer headaches and less neck pain, as well as much less anxiety and I sleep better. It’s worth a try if you haven’t. The only problem is it’s a compounded medication so insurance doesn’t always cover it.
The internet will tell you that you can’t take it with tramadol but ask your doctor. I take 10 mg oxycodone 3x a day and I have for years, and the internet says LDN would give me withdrawals. It did when I accidentally took 1 mg of LDN, but if you start low you’re probably ok. Ask them though.
