I dont want to get any sub or the like. If Im not off this crap really soon my ex wont let me see my son. Long story. I need to know how to do it at home, like tomorrow? It's only 80mg. It can't be that bad, can it? Please help me! I'm from Brisbane Qld, Aust.
Margie, are you prescribed these opiates that you are taking because if so your b/f cannot take away your son. Now, on the other hand, if you are using 80 mg of I'm guessing oxycontin, it is VERY unsafe to try and stop cold turkey on your own. In fact, the term cold turkey comes from the goose flesh people get when going into the intermediate states of withdrawals. I just want to let you know, as someone who has quite a bit of experience with opiate addiction that you are playing Russian Roulette with your life. If you feel as though you cannot live without opiates seek help from a methadone or suboxone clinic. Whatever you do, DON't listen to TJ and get methadone or suboxone off the streets. And, another thing you need to know is that if you DID decide to use suboxone you would go into VERY VERY painful withdrawals if you still had a lot of the opiates in your system. Suboxone hasn't been around for nearly as long as methadone, and the more studies being performed show that suboxone isn't nearly as effective. I promise you that if you are getting treatment at a methadone clinic and you quit using narcotics your son will not be taken away from you. It seems to me as if your boyfriend/fiance is giving you an ultimatum because he doesn't understand or emphasize with the situation you are in. I know your son is of utmost importance to you, but in order for you to be the best mother you can be you need to help yourself first. Methadone is the GOLD standard treatment in opiate addiction and has a very high retention rate in comparison to any other type of drug detox/rehab, etc. Your best bet would be to seek help, and even when the opiates are out of your system completely, addiction NEVER goes away. If you are a TRUE addict then you suffer a DISEASE, and need to have a back up plan and you need a doctor/nurse/counselor's to wein you off or stabilize you on methadone. Good luck to you, but pllease SEEK help. I know I am sending this comment a little late, but I am still guessing that you are dealing with a BIG problem. Please follow my advice, and DO NOT use any type of drug on the street to wein you off because that is the best way to lose your son, and is ONE of the reasons methadone clinics are receiving such bad rap and stigma because people who abuse it on the streets!
Yes, that is true, if this is a legitimate prescription from your doctor, then he will not be able to take any action to prevent you from seeing your son. That can only happen if you are taking them illegally.
If you do need to stop taking them, then you are going to need a doctor's assistance.
Thanks to those of u who so kindly responded to me when i had hit rock bottom.i got onto a suboxone program and they are currently trying to stabilise me,still sort of early days as my xanax habit has of course thrown a spanner in the works. When I started and slowly worked up to 20mg of suboxone the xanax then was around 6 mgs a day.would these 2 meds in those doses give me a really dopey, smashed feeling? How do they work together ive heard its a lethal combination?plus I take a 10mg stilnox at night.Any info from anyone or suggestions Im feeling quite lost in the system?HELP!!!!!is anybody out there?Margie
How easy is it to come off the highest dose of suboxone.Im on 20mg ang xanax around 5-6 mgs .Do u think it would be easier for me to detox off xanax now that I have the sub support???Anyone done it?or anyone have any ideas on how 2???
u cant just stop taking em it could kill u . symboxen works great just tell ur doc .
I'm glad I didn't know that going cold turkey could kill you before I did it two and a half months ago successfully. Was it difficult? Yes, yes, yes. I was taking a total of 110mg. per day and after lot's of concern and fear I just began one day when my next RX was due. I knew it was there if I wanted to go get it, but I never did. I used my breakthrough meds, Norco, to keep me from going through serious withdrawl pain. I slept 24/7 for the first three weeks and then just felt and acted like a sloth for the next month. I am now in the process of cutting three other long term RX's prescribed for various pain issues by 75% each per day. Each day I am feeling better, stronger and more confidant that I will soon get my self off all the RX'x I allowed myself to get strung out on over the last six years due to pain issues. One major thing I discovered is that the side effects of that one medication created more pain than I had started using it for. My pain is now less than before. It can be done if you can stay at home as I do.
Able, I also had a medication prescribed for my pain that made it a lot worse, instead of better.
If you are not abusing narcotics and using them as prescribed, then the chances of having a fatal reaction from withdrawals are very slim, that type of reaction generally only occurs in people who were abusing them and suffering severe addiction.
The correct drug name that was mentioned in the other post is Suboxone and it is only used to treat people with severe addiction problems. If you are taking medications as prescribed for a chronic condition, you will not be able to get it to help you stop taking them.
On an additional note, your regular family doctor can not prescribed Suboxone, it can only be prescribed by someone who is specially trained in its use and the treatment of addiction.
Margie: Suboxone and Xanax are a deadly mixture. Are you prescribed the xanax? Even so, it's still dangerous and xanax is a benzo, and therefore can be fatal if you quit cold turkey. The smartest thing to do is confide in a physician, and let them know what you are trying to do. If you do not get off the xanax then you might have to give up the suboxone, and in my opinion, with your past history with opiate addiction, it would be your best bet to stay on the suboxone program. As far as what would help you when coming off xanax I would advise that you slowly lower your dose by a quarter of a mg. each week or every other day for faster results. You can buy over the counter sleeping pills and those should help. Also, you want to consume PLENTY of potassium, calcium, and Vitamin C because this will help to make your immune system stronger. Take it easy and lay in bed while lowering your Xanax dose because your mind will be a little foggy and you'll be really nervous and edgy, and if you go out that way you will then be triggered to go right back to them. Stick to the suboxone because it will help with the fogginess, confusion, depression, and nervousness.
Thankyou to all you fantastic human beings out there who have been bothered to offer me all the great and varied replys!!Kristal, thankyou,u are a champion!Ive only figured it out myself that xanax and suboxone do NOT like each other one bit!!!Ive managed with the sub to stop F...ing around with the xanax and I now have 2mgs @ 5am when I get up,get dosed at 9.30am and then can do without the xanax from then on.This is remarkable for me as I have had a shocking xannie popping addition for a good 13 yrs.30mgs a day along with a bottle of vodka,a box of codeine and whatever else that took my fancy!Clearly this saw me after a few yrs in rehab.Moving yrs along to cut the story short I rarely drink and am now on the suboxone and have only 2mgs of xanax.I do want to kick the xanax, but for any addict out there you may understand my TOTAL FEAR,ie how will i function without them, will i be the same person, will it screw me up i think i do need them to survive etc etc.Any comments, suggestions, anything????would love to hear anything at all!!!
Hey Kristal,Just re-read one of yr old replys, you seem extremely sensible, experienced in this area, and very black and white(which i like-I love to gather valuable information and learn)If you feel like it ,I would very much feel i would get alot from hearing your story????Margie
Oh my... you want to hear my story? Well, let me start from the beginning.... I started dating this guy who experimented with different drugs, nothing too major like crystal meth or heroin, but you know...weed, a few pain pills here and there, coke every once in a blue moon. Well, while we were dating Oxycontins completely swept over our small town, and soon enough found us. I remember when I first snorted an Oxycontin that I felt complete bliss; not a care in the world.I mean my whole perspective on everything completely changed. I had always suffered anxiety and mild depression, so I had been on and off all different types of psychosomatic drugs (Zoloft, Paxil, etc,) They helped, but my mother took me off of them because she claimed they made me sleep too much. I had also been through a lot in school because I was made fun of a lot, and the weird thing was nothing was wrong or odd about me. I just liked to dress up and look my best, and
I need some info from anyone who can help. I worry about my in-laws sister and mother. 2yrs ago they were addicted to herion and pain pills got hooked on the herion because it was cheaper then the pain pills on the street I guess, thats what they said. Anyways they got on the suboxone and they did really good. They were on them for a few days before my brother in law od and passed. The day after we buried him we almost lost my sister in law she was really sick flu like we really thought that is what she had took her to ER she had a uti, ear infection and very dehydrated so they admitted her and gave her IV fluids antibiotics and stuff. The next day she was worse lung collapsed, had endocarditis, was put in ICU and on a ventilator for 2 wks or more. she almost died. Well now almost 3yrs later they are back on pain meds, xanax, and getting suboxone too. One of them gets pain meds and ativan from her family dr and then goes to a different dr and gets suboxone, I am so afraid. I dont what has to happen or how much someone has to lose before the realize how precious life is. The other one supposely according to her gets xanax and suboxone from the dr she sees for suboxone. She has 2 kids is that not enough to live for- you almost died once before. I dont know what to do. I cant talk to anyone else in our family because they dont want nobody to know and they dont think they have a problem. If crush and snort them you are abusing them so that is a problem, right? You would think that the drs would know because of pharmacy reports. I dont know what I should do and this is my family. I myself has never abused drugs or ever did any.I tired weed when I was like 15 that has been over 20yrs ago didnt like it then. I dont know alot about this stuff or addiction and I am lost so anyone with any suggestions, advice, anything please let me know. I am desperate for some help.
I was taking Oxycodone 10 mg tabs 4X a day and Methadone 10 mg 3X a day, for back and neck problems! But they are no longer effective in managing my pain and I wish to get off them completely. I've reduced my consumption by tapering off gradually, to one of one drug or one of the other, every other day or so, (not taking makes me depressed). Is it time to stop altogether and if so should the depression stop or should I experience additional symptoms? PS: I've always had problems with depression so maybe it's not the withdrawal symptom but me! Thanks.
If your gonna quit cold turkey be careful; your looking @ 14-21 days before you finally wake up not sick. You won't die but be prepared for the runs, restless legs, little to No sleep. Sensitive to temp. Hot showers are critical to recovery, I used gabapentin, Valium, Advil PM gel caps, Excedrin Migraine, Claritin and medical marijuana. I've kicked pills but moved to illicit drugs and almost died. I'm 63 days clean and only smoke at this point. The 1st 7 days the most brutal, the 2nd 7 days be sure to sweat and go to the restroom as much as possible. If you never done this take my advice go to a seven day detox. They will provide most of the items listed above. Good luck. {edited for privacy}
Hi everyone,
I was taking 120 mg oxycodone a day for 2 years. In April of 2017, I decided to quit. It was hell. All the acute withdrawal symptoms were at full force and I lasted 1 day before checking myself into a rehab for 10 days. That's all my insurance would cover. Anyway, I stayed clean for 107 days before I had a short relapse. I got clean at home while still working. The anxiety was horrible but I managed and I also had a bad flu-like-aching in my lower back and legs. Also manageable. Now fast forward to 2 weeks ago. It's Sept 2017. I have been taking 15-20 mg oxycodone every 36 hours. How bad will my withdrawal be? I know there are many factors that affect this subject, but generally speaking... Please help asap.
Can you be detoxed from oxycodone (120 mg daily for years) by titrating the dose down? If so, how long would it take? I have been on narcotics for chronic pain for 20 years and I've been on oxycodone since 2004. I need info. I was told by my drug counselor that there is no medical detox for oxycodone. Desperate for help.
Got off oxycodone 3 weeks ago. Had intense stomach pain for days. Felt better and now 3 weeks later I'm experiencing the same pain. Is my stomach damaged seriously? I was considering calling an ambulance at times, but not sure if I should.
