Hi, im Tk and i have been taking 15mg oxycodone for about 5 years at 4 to 6 a day and tramadol 300mg once a day for a neck surgery i had with fusion c6 c7. I have bad nerve damage in my right arm and alot of pain from both, plus have a metal plate for my right orbital. I work in a very heavy lifting job and going out on disability is not an option. I am still kinda young and dont wanna not be able to not work but i definitely push myself everyday. It is so hard some days but i want to stop taking both and just deal with the pain i have or try other options because i already know i am addicted and have a dependency because i go through bad WDs if i run out early. It's rough but it is what it is. But I want to stop. I cant take it no more. These things are going to ruin my life if they didnt do so already. So if anyone has anyway that they could help me try to get off this stuff please give some ideas because so far i have not been able to just stop. I need some kinda advice and really cant go to a rehabilitation clinic because of work. So any ideas will help and please keep your sarcastic thoughts to your self. Thanks.

Hi tk. I'm Ray. I have dealt with severe chronic pain for several years now and am fairly young myself. I've been down the road of opiate addiction as an attempt to self medicate my pain. I now see a doctor and have my pain under control. But I know all about being dependent on opiates. Have you ever discussed suboxone with your doctor? I'm sure you want to try to not be on anything like myself but getting off that stuff is so hard. I know how hard it is. And it's not as simple as going through the withdraw for a few days. Months afterward the pain is still there and the depression is terrible. But suboxone is a good start. It fills the opiate receptor in your brain. Not all the way though. It's enough to keep the withdraws at bay and it controls pain as well and it doesn't give you that brain fog that typical pain killers give you and it doesn't have nearly as many side effects. And if you start taking it all other pain meds will not affect you since your opiate receptor in your brain is partially full from the suboxone so it would be pointless to take anything else. It definitely is a good start in getting off the stronger narcotics. And when it comes time to taper off the suboxone it will still be hard but not nearly as hard as the oxy. Just a thought. Hope things get better for you :)

Generally, a very slow taper is the best way to get off of such medications. Doing so can help to minimize the withdrawal effects.

Have you consulted your doctor about it? They should be able to help you set up a tapering schedule that should be safe for you.

However, the withdrawal effects may include rebound pain, as reported by the FDA, so you could find yourself severely miserable for several weeks. You could also experience anxiety, diarrhea, fever and chills.
