I am diagnosed with a skin problem called lichen planus in Jan' 2005. At that time a dose of Omancortil 10mg was given for 10days along with Anti-histaminic Atarax 25mg. All these 5 years went fine, now this winter again I could see lichens coming up at some places and doctor suggested another 10 day dose of the same Omnacortil but this time its 20mg for 10 days. (once a day). I am now 37 yrs old and a weight og 86kg. I have two questions 1) What can be the side effects with this Omnacortil when taken for second time in last 5 years? 2) And are there any non-steroidal treatment for Lichen planus?

Hello Leena,
I am sorry to hear about your mother and her bout with TB and meningitis. The first 4 drugs you described are given to eradicate the bacteria TB (Mycobacterium tuberculosis). Because resistant strains are about, a triple or more therapy is given by doctors. She was also given vitamin B6 as a supplement. Additionally, the doctors want to get rid of this infection for obvious reasons. She has also been given prednisolone – this could be for a few reasons, one of them, for the meningitis - and also, because as the TB is being eradicated, like other infections, the prednisolone dampers inflammatory reactions.
The reason for her memory loss can be varied. If it were myself, I’d wonder whether the meningitis has had any effects on the mental processes. Meningitis as you may know, is an inflammation of the coverings of the brain directly under the skull. We can develop meningitis through several causes – infection, certain chemicals, trauma, etc..
Of course, her doctor must also check to see that these drugs aren’t causing any side effects in that area as well.
Last but not least, I’d have my blood sugars tested – uncontrolled, or poorly controlled diabetes can cause marked variation in memory loss and overall cognition.
And finally, the doctors should have follow-up with your mom to verify that the infection is eradicated.
If the meningitis was severe, memory can be affected. In either case, it would be a good idea to have her thoroughly assessed.
My best wishes
Dr K James
My mother who is 57 yrs old is diabetic and hypertensive since 5 yrs has got tb meningitis 3 months back.
After taking medication R CINEX,PYZINA,,BENADON,COMBUTOL,OMNACoRTIL(4o mg,now it is tapering) and Insulin she completley
became normal. From past one month or so suddenly got memory loss, delirium and also she is suffering from
giddiness, blurring of vision. Is it the side effects of TB pills?or from Steroids? or the complications of TB?
Is her memory loss will be permanent or temporary? Please advise.Thank you.
i want Omnacortil 20mg tablets side effects
My sympathies for your ordeal. I hope all is improving. With the omnicortil (prednisilone), it must always be tapered off slowly under doctor supervision so that attempts to stop vision loss can be maintained. Sarcoidosis can affect any organ unfortunately, and in the eyes, can cause retinitis, and inflammation in other areas of the eye. Of course, the steroid (prednisilone) helps to stop the inflammation. You should definitely be reviewed by the doctor or even a specialist in sarcoidosis. Good luck and God bless. Dr K James
babli , any how if it concerned with omnacortil its ok u have other options regarding to that ..u can stop it and if she feels addicted to it u might have some other stimulator or options such as betnesol and efcorlin r the other steroids which can be used in options ..but i dont think so it will be all fine its all psychological effect which can even waved off with hot strong coffee..
Babli, sorry to hear about your friend. Gradually tapering off the medication might be the best option at this point. They should definitely consult with the doctor on a regular basis because tapering off any drug requires a professional's help ... it can be dangerous otherwise...

Hello,
My son is 1.5 year old. From last few months (atleast once)he had suffered severe cold (with wheezing). Last month, Doctor had prescribed Omnacortil 3ml for 3 days. We gave for 3 days and stopped. Cold was controlled but after 3 or 4 days, he had developed with small spots (like small pimples) on his face and body. Initially we thought as some insect bite or food allergy and applied few ointments. After few days, spots on his body are went off. But now a days, it started itching on his legs & hands and having red spots in his ears and above lips. I am afraid that it was due to the Omnacortil since its steroid. Please advise on what should I do now?

Tegretol (Carbamazepine) is an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizing drug used primarily in the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder, as well as trigeminal neuralgia. It is also used off-label for a variety of indications, including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), schizophrenia, phantom limb syndrome, paroxysmal extreme pain disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Common adverse effects include drowsiness, headaches and migraines, motor coordination impairment and/or upset stomach. Carbamazepine preparations typically greatly decrease a person's alcohol tolerance.
There are also less common and more serious side effects, which you can read about on the page for Carbamazepine Details. I hope this helps!
